- scsp85, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5There are so many options that make Ubuntu beautiful. If only they would give us something better than the default brown, more users might make Ubuntu their operating system. For functionality though, Linux can't be beat.
- kd420, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Competing with OSX is really a challenge because of the HUGE variety of hardware configurations. Anything coming with Ubuntu should work, right away. There are still some issues with wireless etc. because of this (I'm sure others could name more stuff) and the distro shouldn't be clogged with graphics enhancements that not anyone can use. Maybe have a dialog on installation such as "Wanna have kickass effects with Compiz?" etc. but keeping a realistically simple design is key. Changing the colour scheme is fine (I think a soft green would be perfect) but you can't expect big changes without losing some users due to system requirements. IF they manage to enhance the UI without alienating and excluding people, THAT would be the proper kind of forward evolution of the OS.
