- drumpat01, on 08/19/2008, -2/+32Kinda strange that they weren't a member yet even though they own the most popular home user distro of linux.
- mordak, on 08/18/2008, -2/+32This can only mean good things.
- eeemart, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10by your powers combined...
- Zerp64, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7Yeah, I was wondering why they weren't already a member. Anyone shed some light on this?
- trougnouf, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6Yes.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -3/+8Ubuntu ftw!!
- brettalton, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4Four years is a short time, I'd say. They have taken the Linux world by storm.
- drguerra, on 08/19/2008, -5/+9Excellent. Ubuntu is now on the way to World Domination. Huzzah!
- CalcProgrammer1, on 08/19/2008, -4/+8I thought I was the only one who used Ubuntu (other than my friend who I often give Ubuntu CD's to, he uses it too)...but once I showed up at college, everyone asks what OS'es I run (as I'm going to be a Computer Engineering major) and apparently it is pretty popular among more people that I thought! Ah well, it's an awesome distro and I'm glad to see that Canonical is getting what they deserve for such a great product (and free, nonetheless).
- slugicide, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3The Linux Foundation (LF) is a non-profit consortium dedicated to fostering the growth of Linux. Founded in 2007 by the merger of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and the Free Standards Group (FSG), it sponsors the work of Linus Torvalds, the original developer of the Linux kernel, and is supported by leading Linux and open source companies and developers from around the world.[1] The Linux Foundation promotes,[2] protects,[3] and standardizes[4] Linux "by providing a comprehensive set of services to compete effectively with closed platforms."[5]
- CalcProgrammer1, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3Captchas? What captchas? I haven't seen one of those on Digg for a week or so!
- brettalton, on 08/19/2008, -1/+4Better collaboration with other Linux organizations, I'm sure.
- LocalDocal, on 08/19/2008, -1/+3Don't know either, but I don't understand. Is there a reason Canonical had to be a part of the Linux Foundation? Is there any benefits to being a part of it? From what I gather in the article, Canonical's reason for joining seems to be that they hoped Ubuntu would get marketing help from the Linux Foundation.
- m3mn0n, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Yeah. Isn't there some sort of patent treaty type agreement between member organizations?
- MasterDwarf, on 08/19/2008, -2/+3It was just a matter of time.
- ethana2, on 08/19/2008, -1/+1You think I'll see the same thing in Architectural Engineering?
..I hope so - ptFoe, on 08/19/2008, -2/+2lol about time
- mike1047, on 08/19/2008, -1/+1may the force be with Ubuntu
- chriscumbag, on 08/19/2008, -3/+3Am I the only one that, only knowing the slimmest of things about the Linux Community (tm), thought 'Canonical' was the screenname of some net-popular Linux guy?
- chichiMi5, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Limit release!!
- PHiZ187, on 08/19/2008, -3/+3I'm sure most people know, but Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu has been putting a great deal of effort into popularizing linux, and having great success doing it. Canonical is probably one of the most motivated and visible thing associate with Linux right now, it is great to see them cooperating with the Linux Foundation.
