- jggube, on 11/16/2008, -1/+18A framework for open source application development? Great idea!
- inactive, on 11/16/2008, -1/+16This is the first I heard of Bug Labs. Pretty Interesting.
- ZigVicious, on 11/16/2008, -1/+14What??
Grammar ftw! - Griny, on 11/16/2008, -0/+12This is an awesome idea. I wish Bug Labs the best of success.
- brainnovate, on 11/16/2008, -0/+10I think this is a pretty cool sounding idea. These guys are not the only ones doing it though, I saw a presentation on another...
- naturalpapa, on 11/16/2008, -0/+9Open source rules!
- RadiatedAnt, on 11/16/2008, -0/+8so in other words its modular not lego... *sigh*
- lifeisgoooooood, on 11/16/2008, -1/+9Interesting development. But I am not sure about its future.
- m0nt3, on 11/16/2008, -0/+7homemade tomtom anyone?
- bagpulistu, on 11/16/2008, -0/+4***** yeah!
- DelMonte, on 11/16/2008, -0/+3Not "a bug" but rather multiple bugs, and they're working in a laboratory, so you must take them seriously.
- insanebrain, on 11/16/2008, -1/+4***** will never be the future ;)
- mozert, on 11/16/2008, -1/+3you guy must be working for one of those big compagnies
- DreadKnight, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1OMFG!
- Culyt, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1Seems like a gimmick to me, it would be much simpler to just get a cheap embedded system with USB and then add whatever attachments you want at mass produced prices.
The stuff Buglabs provides is probably going to be too specific anyway, there is only so much you can do with a screen, motion detector and camera, but maybe you want a barcode scanner, touchscreen, motors and sensors for making a robot, chemical sensors, thermometer or deathray attachment.
☢ - GovernmentsGun, on 11/16/2008, -0/+1I'm interested because I'm an electronics engineer, and want to do robotics. But, I agree with a few of the other comments; this is kind of expensive.
Still, I wonder if it can be made to do PLC capabilities too? - frozensnake, on 11/16/2008, -1/+1a bug creates legos?!
- maksbarzo, on 11/16/2008, -4/+2Is this f'real?
This idea is plagiarized from the novel Microserfs.
It even has a character named Bug in it.
What's the big Idea? - brianpeiris, on 11/16/2008, -5/+1It's interesting, but too expensive for it's capabilities.
It's basically a small computer with USB/serial/ethernet and extensible memory (note: no VGA out), with a few custom peripherals.
I can see it being used in a small number of scenarios where a project needs a dedicated, small form-factor device but it is not very useful for the average person.
If you want to experiment with a computer - use your own.
If you want to create software for the general public on a small form-factor, program for the iPhone or Android
Basically it's a niche platform.
The *actual* Lego NXT system is much more accessible (and fun!). - FrostbyteX, on 11/16/2008, -5/+0I can't imagine buying my kids Bug Blocks for Christmas.
