- UKsHaDoW, on 03/14/2008, -3/+6Yes it can
- pltnz64, on 03/14/2008, -2/+5No, it can't.
- Phocion55, on 03/14/2008, -0/+19I'm undecided. You all raise some pretty good points.

- sandyarmstrong, on 03/14/2008, -1/+0Last.fm integration is so *****.
- geoken, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1How is banshee's support for devices? Last time I tried it I remember having difficulty transferring music to my basic UMS mp3 player.
- gabaug, on 03/14/2008, -0/+10.13.2 and before have quite decent support, including on-the-fly transcoding. But DAP and other hardware-related features are not in this first Alpha release. They will certainly be back in before the 1.0 release, and probably by the next Alpha.
- b3n87, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2anyone know of some ubuntu binary builds that could be floating about?
- animaniac, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2The main reason I don't jump from iTunes is that no one takes advantage of the fact that my library data and playlist structure is readily available in XML. All these (wonderful) alternative players need to develop importing functions to get people to jump ship from the market leader.
- gabaug, on 03/14/2008, -0/+6We have a great iTunes importer for stable that will be ported as part of the 1.0 process. You could install it and use it on Banshee 0.13.2, and then run 1.0 Alpha 1 which will migrate appropriately. See http://code.google.com/p/banshee-itunes-import-plu ... for more info.
- ruiacp, on 03/14/2008, -9/+4Banshee uses mono. I would think twice before using it.
- filipf, on 03/14/2008, -3/+7Yes, it does. Mono is cool. It provides nice environment for developing advanced apps fairly quickly quickly. Check out MonoDevelop 1.0 announcements and screencasts http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2008/Mar-14.html.
- Remmy, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2And it's also a patent trap from Microsoft.
- Mejogid, on 03/15/2008, -2/+4For those who are unaware, ruiacp was referring to the potential patent issues. Parts of it may infringe on MS patents, and with Novell granted explicit exemption from such patent law suites there is the potential for other users and developers to be left out in the cold. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(software)#Mono_ ... for more information.
The other issue with Mono (IMO) is that MS often plays nice while they're building up a product before cutting out the competition. Personally, I'd rather minimise my dependence on their software. - ruiacp, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2Thanks Mejogid, that's my point. Mono is a potential target for the infamous microsoft's Embrace Extend Extinguish policy. And mono team looks a lot like a group of ms fanboys. Imagine a Gnome desktop full of mono apps like miguel de icaza claims to be the future, it could become a threat to us if ms starts to point us the patent claim missiles.
flipf there is no question that .net/mono is a fast and easy tool for developing applications, but can become a dangerous one too, not for quality issues, but it is very possible to attract more ms attacks with the back support from novell and mono team. I've tried Banshee and I can say from my personal experience that it is inferior to Rythmbox and it is far behind Amarok.
