- bl4k3r, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5What exactly is the connection between Linux usage in Italy and the BBC?
- abbathdoom, on 09/08/2008, -2/+5Gary.Parkinson@bbc.co.uk will be his BBC email address if you want to point out his factual errors.
- underdog5004, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4Trouble is, the people populating these forums seem much cleverer than I am. On another planet, in fact. I may not be a good bet to be one to discover the cure for cancer, but I pride myself that not a (complete) fool either.
Awesome, I pride myself that not a fool either! - spocksbrain, on 09/08/2008, -2/+4This article is someones personal opinion about Linux. Believe it or not, some people don't like Linux, and not just because they might find it hard to use. Emailing him with your "factual corrections" will not do your cause any good, you'll just end up with an article about the obsessiveness of the Linux community.
- brisbin33, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1yes the bloggers rant was a bit knee-jerk (and had its own mistakes) but i read the bbc article and didn't like it at all either. seemed he was against linux from the get go. if hed've just tried to tweak his current distro (themes and ipods were his only compliant.. try google, douche) hed've been a lot happier. but seriously...
"I still can't sync an iPod and ... I probably won't be able to... "
and
"The iPod out of action is a major irritation, but I've not given up hope. There's software out there - free for Linux users as always - that promises to do what I want.."
are contradictory statements... google "linux sync ipod amarok" and STFU.
i too have higher standards for BBC. - trogdoor, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1"The article continues, with his biggest complaint that he can’t synchronise with his iPod. Ok - so that much is true, it doesn’t."
Actually, unless it's an ipod touch then it can with Amarok or gtkpod, but I wouldn't rail against the author ( of the BBC article ) for not knowing this ( the author of the article criticising him on his lack of research maybe... ). I would also recommend http://www.ubuntu-eee.com rather than stock Ubuntu for an Eeepc.Everything works out of the box, it includes Ubuntu Netbook Remix, fonts are more suited to the smaller screen etc. I plan to email him with this information, I just hope that my message doesn't get lost in the barrage of hate mail he is likely to get ( Thank you abbathdoom and the knee jerk culture of Digg in general ). - razorpsych, on 09/08/2008, -3/+2good.
- schestowitz, on 09/08/2008, -6/+5FTA: "His piece reads like he’s giving Linux a thorough test. If this was his intention, then using the EeePC was a big mistake. However, the fact the WiFi didn’t work in Ubuntu? Very valid and annoying, which is why I still recommend looking up Linux compatibility before making the jump. "
He tried to break it and he managed. Well done.
Microsoft's internal document (from Comes vs Microsoft) states: "Working behind the scenes to orchestrate "independent" praise of our technology, and damnation of the enemy's, is a key evangelism function during the Slog. "Independent" analyst's report should be issued, praising your technology and damning the competitors (or ignoring them). "Independent" consultants should write columns and articles, give conference presentations and moderate stacked panels, all on our behalf (and setting them up as experts in the new technology, available for just $200/hour). "Independent" academic sources should be cultivated and quoted (and research money granted). "Independent" courseware providers should start profiting from their early involvement in our technology. Every possible source of leverage should be sought and turned to our advantage." - fedoraftw, on 09/08/2008, -3/+1@abbathdoom
I'll leave that up to you chaps :)
