- miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8How is this spam? He isn't linking to another article.
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7But why be so sensitive about the editor war? Is it because, deep in your heart of hearts, you know that your choice of editor is the fundamentally inferior one? ... you wouldn't happen to be an EMACS user, would you?
O:-) - kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Oh crap, I was really hoping this wouldn't happen(emacs vs vim war).
- thethorn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7WTF, Microsoft and Apple don't try hard?
- kaczus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Nano
- lonniebiz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6They can try as hard as they want. In the long run open source software will be the most used.
- johnnykwest, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Fine. You keep lining Bill and Steve's pockets. We'll think for ourselves thank you....
- coredump0x01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dugg for QJoyPad, This is exactly what I've been looking for. gEDA is nice too. :D
- Kickboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Any article that mentions SciTE gets auto dugg.
Been using SciTE for years. It owns. - capitocapito, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Dugg for pixelize. I had forgotten that I wanted a program like this...
- Coldkill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3His screen name is bilgates. I think he's trying too hard to be a troll
- SimonGray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's an _Ubuntu_ blog. Who cares what you think anyway.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's pretty obvious he's being sarcastic.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I like moc, there are other console based music players but MOC is clearly the best:
http://www.linuxhaxor.net/2007/08/27/moc-music-on- ... - jmyers1643, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thanks for being one of the sain ones to comment on this
- muszek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Geany (http://geany.uvena.de/ ) is a really cool editor/IDE. It's very fast (few dependencies), has all the basic features and nice settings by default.
I wrote a review a few months ago - http://www.ubuntunews.info/geany-perfect-programmi ... . It's in Ubuntu repos. - Sabretou, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Gimmie is awesome!
- cesclaveria, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4why?
- 1longtime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's so feature-rich and color codes soooo well... forget Textmate selling for EU 39, SciTE is free and it rocks.
- johnnyzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i cast my lot for vim, vim vs emacs 2 to 1!
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Can anyone recommend a good CLI text editor(Python specifically)?
- SimonGray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just too bad it defaults it its own ugly icons. Had to edit a text file to get my theme's Gtk+ icons. But it is pretty good.
- silenceHR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2THANK YOU!!!!!!! i needed that calendar thingy, been looking for something like that for long time
- freddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1mocp and treeline are also great, i use them all the time...
- jmyers1643, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2for one, its a ubuntu themed blog. Two your comment about "wtf is ubuntu/linux?" i think you are looking into the wordage to much - get over yourself *****
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised you haven't been dugg down more. Diggers losing their trust? D:
- nic777, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1APTonCD = just what I needed
- fires, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm a python programmer (zope and plone) and everyone (including myself) in our startup uses vim (gnome-vim).
Sorry, clicked the wrong reply button. @kingkilr - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2vi vi vi = 666 = EVIL
pico FTW - oneoverzero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Pico.
(Prepares for burial) - Craga89, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Good list, I wasn't aware of "Geda" and I've been looking for an alternative to Crocodile Technology on linux.
- jmyers1643, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3thanks, glad you like
- lengau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1CLI? Nano/Pico.
GUI? Whatever's built into your DE (Kate is my favourite). - tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If the guy runs Ubuntu, he can't honestly say he's gotten these to run on, say, Fedora, so he'll say Ubuntu. As that is a very popular distro now, many blogs are Ubuntu-themed and many blog owners only use and can vouch for programs working on Ubuntu.
DISCLAIMER: Yes, I use it. - johnstar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1moc over cplay wtf?
- kevmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1One tool that doesn't come standard, but IS in the apt repositories, is a very neat tool to change the display settings. A must have:
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_Gutsy_goodness_i ... - tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't think that word means what you think it means.
- TheCosmicFool, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I don't know why your getting dugg down, I lol'd
- eean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Kwrite is a great basic editor. Has all the features you want: syntax highlighting, automatic indentation, good keybindings. But it isn't too complicated.
- maruchan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I like that he mentions SciTE - it uses the same text engine as Notepad++ for Windows (Scintilla). This means it's the only native Linux editor that lets you use completely different fonts (not just colors and italics or bold) for different markup elements. I like to set my code comments in a different font, for example. Notepad++ has this setting by default, last I checked. Having to use the same font for everything (when using other editors) really makes me gag now. :-)
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why would anyone use pico when we have nano?
- Killer_Manbeast, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1I bet that page was awesome, but all I see now is a random spam page :(
- Archon810, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6What do you any of these have to do with Ubuntu?
"Let me put Ubuntu in the title and it'll get dugg for sure!" - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3but then I couldn't do all the cool terminal stuff that I can do in linux.
- eean, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1And any digg article with "ubuntu" has to have this comment. Even when the article is specific to Ubuntu.
- riverdusty, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0this headline should read "Awesome 'linux'/Linux Apps....."
you do know ubuntu is linux?
you do know the 'pretty' interface is gnome and you can get it on every single linux/unix/bsd version?
do you people just put Ubuntu into your headlines to get on digg? - ZenMasterJG, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Emacs.
- xSeg, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4yeah but WTF is Ubuntu/Linux? I think he miss spelled GNU.
