- stonyhill, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13This is highly anticipated. While no other CMS can match the power of Joomla and its community extensions, the 1.0 version is mired in spaghetti code and table-based layout. I can't wait to get my fingers on 1.5 and its div/css gooey goodness, in a production environment...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Awesome!
WTF is Joomla? - pencique, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Great! I have been waiting for this release. The back-end interface is much nicer than previous versions, and the security has been updated. The only downside now is waiting for compatible templates and extensions to be released.
Overall, compared to the other CMS packages that I have installed and used (Drupal & Mambo), Joomla is my favorite. I hope future improvements like this continue! - fuzzytexan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"no other CMS can match the power of Joomla and its community extensions"
err... what about Drupal? - vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5Actually, Joomla! is one of the few products whose name has a meaning.

- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think Joomla 1.5 is going to be big. Very big. 1.0 had too many layout issues and somewhat limited configuration options. You could easily spot a Joomla site because of that. 1.5 looks and feels professional, something you could use for a major site without users realizing it is Joomla.
Now there won't be anything stopping the little guys competing with the big corporate internet media behemoths. - stuf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3One web framework that I think that is going to break through, is Django (http://www.djangoproject.com) -- as soon as people start getting used to Python. I've been using it for some while, and absolutely love it; fully customizable database models, auto-generated admin UI's if you feel lazy, completely configurable human-readable URLs and so forth. Do check it out.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3Joomla! 1.5 has a new SEO URI system, but even 1.0 has SEO urls. There has been a plugin for SEO meta for quite a while.
- SomeoneSpecial, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Stoneyhill, the core code does have a bit of tables, but another Joomla community member and myself have posted a mod to completely get rid of them, plus it will validate Strict ;) We will probably submit it to be considered as a patch for updated version of the 1.0 versions of Joomla, you can find it at http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,181102.0.html
- fireball74, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4A CMS with a nice GUI type interface. It has a lot of features out of the box, but also allows for plugins.
- kaph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why not call Ubuntu, "Humanity to others" then? Plus Microsoft would have a fit if they called it Word....
- afx1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4if you don't already know what joomla is then the article wouldn't be of much interest to you anyways.
- Spikito, on 10/10/2007, -2/+57 "Joomla"s in the title and description... impressive.
- gav240z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'll wait to final release before update. I love Joomla it's so amazing and so flexible I still can't get over the fact it's open source. The community is really helpful and future updates I'm sure will be great.
- lava, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have joomla on my site and I'm starting to hate it. Especially the fact that menus are rendered as tables, wtf? Plus, this is the first major release in like 2 years. I keep reading great stuff about 1.5, but those announcements are dated early 2006.
- troydoogle7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2let them have their ad revenue.... It makes for more great articles...
- Loonacy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Awesome!
WTF is a CMS? - stonyhill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like Drupal, but it doesn't have all of the features that I use routinely with Joomla.
- Rageous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is the backend lag finally gone now? That pissed me off enough that I dumped it completely for ExpressionEngine.
- hypnosisking, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2the spam here is amazing.
- adolfojp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Joomla is not a web framework. It is a CMS. You can use Django to make a Joomla like CMS. ;-)
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Content Management System - for building database-driven websites. Multiple contributors can update and edit content via web login - no coding required. It's like Wordpress on steroids.
Joomla is also free/open-source. - stockjones, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Joomla is great. Its amazing Ive seen commercial CMS products from big enterprise companies that are very expensive and dont even come close to the features available in Joomla. In fact some commercial enterprise products seem pretty damn basic and amateur in comparison.
- Laur3ns, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2ileadyouth: based on which version of Joomla! do you make those comments? If Joomla 1.5 isn't a framework, then Eclipse and Mootools aren't frameworks either. Please do the proper research before making such comments...
- xeno439, on 12/23/2007, -0/+1That is cool. I used to run joomla on http://www.thatsprofound.com
but then I change it pligg. I also used to have it on http://www.mp34.us but now I just use it on http://www.directorysubmit.biz - stickyhoney, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Still no SEO title tags or URL Rewrites. I moved from Joomla when my server got hacked, I'll stick with Wordpress thanks.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've been a big fan of Joomla 1.5 for some time, despite a feel that this release was never going to actually make it live. For those waiting on the upgrade, it's going to be worth it. The entire frontend has pretty much been revamped, and is a joy to use.
- raeldc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Whoa! Are you talking about Joomla? Do you even understand what a Framework means? And more importantly, did you ever take time to learn Developing extensions for Joomla? To some extent, Joomla 1.0.x has a spaghetti code. But 1.5 changes all that. Joomla 1.5 closely resembles CakePHP now, with Joomla's own implementation of the MVC Framework suited for CMS's.
- VickyB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just hope that most of the available extensions are updated quickly by their respective coders. Joomla is great but it's all the (well coded!) third party extensions that really make it special. Upgrading from 1.013 to 1.5 will heavily depend on whether or not all the extensions and plugins that I use will get upgraded too. Probably add an extra few months onto the time after RC2 before I attempt to upgrade.
- ldog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I haven't used 1.5, but 1.0.x wasn't very bloated. It's actually a pretty simple collection of php files that deploys easily on a LAMP(linux apache mysql php) server. Plenty of companies will host a site with those requirements for 5 bucks a month or less.
The alternative for running a website without some form of content manager is using something like frontpage or dreamweaver or a text editor to create each "page" instead of just logging in and adding content. - chadu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Good to see a new release, Drupal needs some competition to stay sharp. Choices are always good!
- eurospine2005, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1joomla is the best cms http://www.eurospine2005.com/index.php
- ericbramlett, on 11/02/2008, -0/+1I'm considering switching my Austin real estate site http://www.ericbramlett.com to the joomla platform.
- MrSelfDestruct, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, I don't think web hosts support mod_python very well
- adam.skinner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What features do you use that Drupal is missing?
