- LysolSCG, on 01/21/2008, -10/+20"The 9-inch touch panel-equipped Eee PCs will adopt four-wire resistive touch screen technology. The expected bill of materials (BOM) to add touch panel functions is under US$15"
OK, the 9 inch touchscreen will cost Asus $15. Now, let us not forget the upgrade from a 7 inch, to a 9 inch screen, then the casing and components to be re-sized, and lets face it- They wouldn't stop there. The second gen Eee wouldn't be $15 more. Add parts and labor, you're paying $600-700 for a second gen Eee.- otatop, on 01/21/2008, -2/+19I don't know why you're getting buried. The title is ridiculously inaccurate. It will cost Asus $15 more for the touchscreen technology, but the title makes it seem like Asus loves us all so much they're going to sell 9" touchscreen Eees for $15 more than the 7" versions currently available.
- muszek, on 01/21/2008, -0/+6Maybe because he predicts that EEE will cost twice as much after the screen upgrade alone?

/will wait for the 2nd gen...thanks for the heads up. - jasonslay, on 01/21/2008, -1/+2It's $15 added to the B.O.M. (Bill of Materials). This would be scaled by at least a factor of two and then another coolness/marketability factor. Expect to pay at least $50 more for the touch screen version of the 9" display over the regular version of the 9" display.
- EserVerx, on 01/21/2008, -0/+4I agree with Otatop and LysoISCG, but I can understand why Lyso is getting buried. While you are both right in stating that the title is horribly misleading, No one likes to think that Asus will go greed hungry with their open source spirit EeePC. While it is true that the next gen EeePC will most likely cost more, $600 - 700 seems inacurate. Especialy when they are marketing the EeePC as a minimalistic, open source, budget laptop. For clarification, I'm not bashing the EeePC. In fact, I plan on buying one in the next few days.
But only time will tell. With only vague information on the subject, all anyone really has to go on is opinion and disposition. Personally, I don't think they will choose to juice its gigantic fan base base with an over priced version of something that has already proven to work well. No reason to change a strategy that works, not to mention one that sets off a pretty big movment. - BOFH139, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2I'm waiting on a version that can do min. 1024x768 then it will be usable.
- pengas, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1um...
