- chadu, on 03/31/2008, -3/+32one runtime to rule them all.
- snowblindnz, on 03/31/2008, -4/+21Now if only they could get Flash working without random crashes on Ubuntu
- Remmy, on 03/31/2008, -0/+15Wow. You totally spammed your ***** blog. Good job.
- oderdigg, on 03/31/2008, -1/+16just release a 64-bit version of Flash for *****'s sake.
- Shawn4168, on 03/31/2008, -0/+11A period is usually sufficient to end a sentence. There really isn't any need to tack on "LOL" at the end.
- webcrumb, on 03/31/2008, -0/+8Fricking blog... direct link (plus reply (ab)use)
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air_linux.html - MattBD, on 03/31/2008, -1/+8People will DEFINITELY use AIR. I have heard rumours that future versions of Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash etc will be AIR apps, making them able to run on any computer with the AIR runtime installed.
Interested now? - sint4x, on 03/31/2008, -1/+8Hell hath frozen. Could this foreshadow good ATI drivers?
- MattBD, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7I've found it works fine for most things.
- climatewarrior, on 03/31/2008, -1/+8Make Flash open source!!!! Please
- j3one, on 03/31/2008, -1/+7Take note, cross platform and by cross I mean win/linux/mac appications that are web enabled and powered yet break out of the browser and connect your local files and processing power to the internet are going to be big. Air is one of the leaders in this area, although I would love to see something like WebKit take off.
- l800LEMMINGS, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5its about time
- ahughes, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5So does this mean work can start on a Pownce Linux client?
- HSaraiva, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5It's kinda like Google Gears or Mozilla Prism. In essence, it allows people to make web apps that work on the desktop.
- mmmiiikkkeee, on 03/31/2008, -1/+6ATI released there specs so there WILL be good drivers. since the comunity will write them :)
- cawpin, on 03/31/2008, -3/+8Since when has flash been an issue on Ubuntu? I've never had any problems with it.
- willfe, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4I thought it was a Java runtime borkage that hacked the Vista machine (the Air vulnerability was on the MacBook, wasn't it?). Not that it matters, really -- if there's an exploitable hole in it, somebody will put it to use anyway :)
- sint4x, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5Maybe I am missing your question. AIR, amongst other things, enables you to take flash applications and make them desktop applications.
I don't see how using "flash instead" would solve anything. - MarkKezner, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4Here you go
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/eula/ - mmmiiikkkeee, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5I am just wondering what are the terms of the license that it is released under?? is it GPL / or a binary blob?
- nandasunu, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5air is not just for flash. you can code desktop apps with html + javascript, it lets web developers make desktop apps pretty easily.
- srg13, on 04/01/2008, -1/+4Given that they've done to work to make CS3 work on Mac OS as well as Windows, porting it over to Linux would be trivial. And they is a pretty large market for pro-graphics in the Linux world - many visual effects companies use Linux workstations (and even more have render farms comprised of Linux machines)
- tokyomonster, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I had some issues with pop-up notifications in Twirl, and there is NO minimize-to-system tray support as of yet. Other than that, it seems to work fine.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3"the Air vulnerability was on the MacBook"
Classic. - gutfeeling, on 04/01/2008, -0/+3the concept of a cross-operating system runtime seems to be lost on you.
- thetin, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I thought AIR was using Webkit
- handsoffme, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Correct: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Apollo:develo ...
- init100, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2"for the 5 linux users who would actually use a legal copy"
So you're trying to imply that Linux users are pirates and Windows users all have proper licenses? What a joke. - MattBD, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2It works OK with Tumblweed too.
- HSaraiva, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3AIR is an acronym for Adobe Integrated Runtime. Not just some silly "catchy name".
- thetin, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2The web based "Light" version maybe.... Definitely not the full apps.
- MattBD, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I found Twhirl to be a little odd too the first time I used it, but ever since then it has been OK.
- weeeezzll, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1That program sucks! This one is actually useful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfTUDW93z6E&feature ...
- init100, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Not with the proper security measures in place.
- webspot, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Or at least provide a 64 bit version!
- enterneo, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1next turn for native Silverlight on Linux?
- pgm_01, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I have had problems since the last Firefox update.
- ilgaz, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1If MS shipped actual Silverlight 2.0 beta to Linux instead of bribing that puppet, that would be a thing like "hell has frozen". I remember having Flash player on my Slackware linux back in 1997. It is usual for Adobe.
- YodaJones, on 03/31/2008, -5/+5Adobe Air, what a piece of crap. Like the world really needs another platform independent development system. Hey Adobe, how about getting Photoshop and Illustrator to run natively on Linux instead of reinventing the wheel?
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2IMO it's a good thing, because it promotes cross-platform applications that seamlessly integrate teh interweb and the desktop, and it will surely be reverse-engineered by the OSS crowd eventually I hope.
- jorisb, on 03/31/2008, -4/+3The only difference as far as I can tell is that is has SQLite built in. It's as much a desktop application, as is firefox with google gears installed.
Adobe Air is a step away from open standards, I hope it fails. - KidDeath, on 03/31/2008, -3/+1heh..
that's an awesome program..
backwards - Jancis, on 03/31/2008, -4/+2Neat. what is Adobe AIR anyway?
- teamsand, on 04/01/2008, -2/+0Adobe Air and Microsoft Silverlight can eat a turd burger.
Open standards is the future get with the program or get your flashy crap out of the way. - Munshot, on 04/02/2008, -3/+1We need to get proprietary garbage like this OFF the web. Something as universal as the web needs to be vendor independent, not just platform independent. As if flash weren't bad enough.
- inactive, on 03/31/2008, -8/+5Nike AIR
AIR Jordon
Virgin AIR ( ok this one makes some sense)
MB AIR
Adobe AIR
I think the use of the word AIR is about up, can we please try and use other catchy names?! - polywaffle, on 04/01/2008, -5/+2Porting takes a massive amount of resources, and for the 5 linux users who would actually use a legal copy its just not worth it.
Besides, it already runs in wine/virtual machine if its that hard for you to dual boot windows. - rudy23, on 03/31/2008, -6/+3while its good they are supporting other OS'es I didnt get the point of air at all. why not use flash instead.
- angers, on 03/31/2008, -4/+1I wish someone would make a Mind-map application on Adobe AIR
- Atsumori, on 03/31/2008, -5/+1too*
