- ThantiK, on 06/04/2009, -1/+22I *really* miss when Digg was a tech-oriented site. We didn't have all these trolls running around wondering why Wine got to the front page. Get over it. Wine will hit the front page, and you can't stop it. We have to deal with your fanboy Windows/Apple articles, you have to deal with our Linux articles.
- paperclipsNsoup, on 06/04/2009, -0/+13Wine is good, a bit buggy, but way less CPU intensive than running windows under a virtual machine.
Still can't get it to work with Yahoo Messenger (Pigeon doesn't support video) - wpyh, on 06/04/2009, -0/+12You mean Piddin. Pigen. Piggin. Pidgen. Aarrrghhh... Pidgin. Yeah, that's it.
- zip000, on 06/04/2009, -1/+8I've pretty much given up on Wine. The only things that I need from windows are the games, so I've just got a windows partition that I use solely to play games on. It takes like 90 seconds to boot into windows to play games - I can wait that long.
I would probably feel differently if I actually had to pay for Windows...I've had the same XP disc that I got with my computer about 5 years ago. I know that Wine is getting better and better, and all sorts of things probably work now that didn't work last time I tried, but for now, an XP partition for gaming is just easier for me. - paperclipsNsoup, on 06/04/2009, -0/+7Uhhh Digg is supposed to be more Tech and News oriented (At least it used to be when I signed up).... If your just looking for the newest meme go to 4chan or reddit
- inactive, on 06/04/2009, -0/+6It is running a lot smoother using the beta. Still having issues with GDI and CPU consumption.
Using FL Studio DAW a GDI intensive UI that is sucking cycles and the Audio can play up though under Jack it works sweet just not ALSA.
All other non iLOk VST's working fine as a plugin to FL studio.
Midi map fine, trouble free.
Latency is still lower (.3xms) under wine Linux than on native XP but the Alsa kernel timing makes it unusable, must use jack.
FL Studio 8.04 beta Registers
V 8xx did not
V7 xx and before did. - AaronCo, on 06/04/2009, -1/+6Wine is good if you're a developer or have bug testing skills. You can track down the cause of the problem pretty quickly and make a surprising number of things work.
The problem comes if you're not a developer, have no bug testing skills, and have no patience to learn... which is like 99% of all PC users. In that case, wine is little more than a hit or miss hackjob. - Krissam, on 06/04/2009, -0/+4Just call it Gaim
- Frostek, on 06/04/2009, -0/+4Empathy sounds like that will fix that issue.
- mrBitch, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4Actually WINE does run on OSX via a packaged software app called "Crossover" :
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/support_wine/
"... Everything we do at CodeWeavers revolves around the Wine Project. Wine is the primary driving technology of our CrossOver Products.. " - ethana2, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3You don't need Crossover.
http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX - AaronCo, on 06/04/2009, -0/+3Winehq.com and the forums have a lot of info. Learn how to regression test, for instance.
- mikael110, on 06/07/2009, -0/+3ok, i admit i was wrong.
- paperclipsNsoup, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2Yeah, I've had that problem with it. I don't have bug testing skills... I actually have no idea where to start.
Any recommended reading/websites I can get info, I always thought of Google (Well at least the search results) as an iffy source for info that has the ability to completely destroy any program you are trying to mess with. - RobotBuddha, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2For some reason I can never remember how to spell it. One of the few programs I don't just alt-f2 to start.
- DreadKnight, on 06/04/2009, -1/+2no linux or mac version atm. haven't tried it out with wine yet...
- mikael110, on 06/04/2009, -2/+1nope, it runs on linux
- specialbuddy1, on 06/04/2009, -2/+1try digsby. It has more features then Pidgen.
- inactive, on 06/04/2009, -4/+3Goddammit I thought this was about wine! Pshht!
- ethana2, on 06/04/2009, -6/+2WINE runs on OS X..
- AndrewRidgely, on 06/04/2009, -19/+2"This is the 358 issue of the World Wine News publication."
Well this is certainly quite a landmark. Worthy of the front page of Digg surely. - grimacebrown, on 06/04/2009, -21/+0... So... I know this has to do with Windows and its API.
But I still seriously don't understand how this is a front page article... did the guy who goes on to digg every day with all his friends to make the next "Top 'N' (Insert random crap here)" article popular do the same thing with the keyword 'Windows'?

What is Digg?
