- kd420, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4I don't game, edit videos, and I love fiddling with my computer for fun, so Linux is perfect for me. There are millions of others that would agree and disagree, but there seems to be a lack of "agreeing to disagree". Anyone who thinks a single OS bests all others in everything is wrong. When you get people arguing like the person in the article, it shows insecurity in their choice.
To summarize it, "Compiz looks cool, but it's not worth switching to Linux, so I'm going to argue Compiz sucks". He feels his effects are not as cool as Linux's so he argues they are useless. The same thing happens in the Mac vs. PC argument. Windows users argue OSX is too controlled, having to buy the hardware just for the OS, and Mac users suggest Windows is bloated and buggy. In fact, there are equal reasons to use each, but people only acknowledge one side so they can feel like they have made the right choice for their OS.
The only advantage that Linux has over both, and a major reason I use it, is that I can change almost every part I don't like (alright, I admit I don't compile my own kernels). But arguing to no end on which is the best OS is just as pointless as arguing which size of shoe is best. Mac might have the best media editing software, Windows the best games, but as an individual I will use Linux. Yes, get people to at least try other OS's, but only for THEIR benefit, not to make you more confident that your OS decision was correct. - Zippo, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3My god, has this guy even heard of a ***** spell checker?
- DerangedPenguin, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3I have been running Linux in one version or another since the introduction of Windows 95. I no longer had my DR-DOS running under Windows 3.11 and OS2/WARP was looking like a dead end. I needed a real OS that was stable Linux just seemed to work well. Not as polished as the more common Unix's at the time, but the price was right. Now aside from a Mac Airbook and a H20 Cooled Dual G5 Mac I run Linux on my small collection of computers at home.
Yes I have a M$ Technet subscription and I do run Windoz in virtual machines from time to time for testing and training, but not do to any real work like surfing "The Net" - freeridstylee, on 11/06/2008, -1/+4You hippies need to cut your hair and tone down your compiz.
- trolley, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Jesus people...you'd think that in 2008 everyone would understand the concept of a troll.

Get over it.

- rockon4life45, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2"Another issue I’d like to talk about is all this chrome and eyecandy the (linux user is so proud of) internet is infested by…. compiz and wobbly windows and drawing fire and rotatin’ ur desktops on boxes and hippies and whatnot"

- photonics, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1who cares? people say this ***** all the time...not worth the time. This wasn't even all that bad either...i have seen a lot worse.
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1XP Pro does everything I need it to do, therefore I don't see a need to invest the time and effort in switching.
But I've never really spent the time researching why it's better than Windows either though so who knows. - ysaberi, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Even though he spelled opinion wrong in his article (A VERY pissed Windows user’s oppinion on Linux)
- dtbsz, on 11/06/2008, -4/+0Yeah, but the truth is, if you want me to break it down to you, that linux is a "bit" behind m$ and apple when it comes to SW and HW support and that many of compiz eycandy (tho' it's pretty) has no practical use (drawing with fire?!?! like wtf? are u that bored?!?) + that linux is not the uber-alles' OS on the planet, it's your choice and that's that. + if you bash windows and hate it sooo much don't use xp > so u cand install itunes > so u can use ur ipod and try awoiding WINE to cuz' "that infact creates a virtual windows station with windows directories like windows / program files directly on ur hdd." (your words) if windows is soooo bad, and linux is the god of OS-s stick to linux and instead of writing scripts that have no practical use write some SW and HW support. + that i'm sticking with xp tho' I tried ubuntu and we didn't understand each other very well.... I don't wanna' emulate anything before running a program or a game. I just wanna run the software.
belive it or not xp works just fine for many people without the need to reinstall it every week doode'. it's not the software it's you....
