- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damn... I was just starting to use kde again.
as for one plus of xfce: their prereleases don't look so much like commercial pitches.
I'm using xfce right now. it gets me where I need to go. it's not exactly lightweight as many claim but I consider fluxbox and icewm lightweight and gnome and kde bloated. xfce hits my 'normal' mark. it look fairly attractive, same gtk that powers gnome, a somewhat OSX like panel at the bottom of the screen, and a window switcher at the top. also provides good compatibility with kde and gnome applications.
I chose xfce as a mother-friendly wm on a slow old box she uses for email and web browsing, I certainly consider it the lightest wm that you can let an average user moron loose on. - generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm glad they finally have a decent menu editor. Far to many basic and long standard tasks are rendered 100x harder in the Linux operating system :)
- BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually prefer Epiphany over Firefox. It feels alot more responsive, and is alot more lightweight, and simple to use.
- seand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why not just use firefox as the default browser? that urkes me.
i used to be a gnome user; that is before i actually used my machine for production-level needs...just too slow for what i do. i have always been a gtk over qt patron though...
im sure for those gnome users in the world though, this is a super welcomed update!
for me, it's blackbox+gentoo all the way...anything else spells bloat :P
ahhh the life of a minimalist! - LiquidGUI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like it will be a great release, I am personally a big Ubuntu/GNOME fan.
Looks like it has some really cool features. The plug and play style window in Nautilus looks interesting.
Also, the Mozilla plugin for Totem I hope will be a bit more usable than the VLC one (not saying its bad whatsoever).
Looking forward to it. - NyQuil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks nice.. but XFCE4 is still my personal favorite.
- brownstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks great!
XFCE users: How does your WM compare to GNOME? Can you give an objective analysis? - NyQuil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0XFCE has a nice trimmed down no-bs layout... I really like it.. No skinning no nothing... It just comes extreamly plain without all the crap I don't like.. I never personally liked gnome.
- Nihilistik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0front page, now 2 comments, what teh?
