- chazuk, on 10/29/2007, -0/+65Both released on the 10th month of 2007. ;) They use the date as a release number.

Which in turn links to: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
Dupe. - SatNav, on 10/29/2007, -0/+34to actually *answer* the question, no - this is the 8.42.3 driver from a few days ago. Pointless dupes and irrelevant replies FTW!
- insanebrain, on 10/29/2007, -3/+34I baked you a cookie. . .but I eated it.
- SenseiSeito, on 10/29/2007, -1/+24Damn Right. Its about time Linux was given the attention it deserves. Now with the new Kernel and increased Hardware Support along with Simplicity, which Ubuntu is getting better and better at, it may become an Operating System to switch to with ease for Windows Users.
And I'm a Windows User myself..
So I can't wait! - stegre, on 10/29/2007, -2/+22The title is a little bit misleading, AMD/ATI have been "going Linux" for quite some time now. What we want is Open Source drivers...
- Breepee, on 10/29/2007, -0/+17Are these different to the fglrx 8.42.3 from a few days ago?
- radmarshallb, on 10/29/2007, -9/+24It's just you.
- Burn, on 10/29/2007, -0/+15They bought ATi a while back.
- mvent2, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14Its called "doing your research". When your brain cells come back from vacation I'm sure you'll understand.
- mvent2, on 10/28/2007, -1/+14No.
- srg13, on 10/29/2007, -0/+12"I was hoping to be proved wrong, but all you do is sneer like a fanboy."
You should probably expect that response when you make such a snide comment - bratterscain, on 10/28/2007, -0/+12Not just you. Better gpu support may seem irrelevant but it does help boost gaming on Linux, very slowly though. We can only hope that the big gaming dev's see Linux as a viable gaming platform and until that happens, I'm not too optimistic. As a rabid gamer though, I've almost completely made the switch and settled with what games Linux already has and supports.
The Linux model isn't gimped as far as technology goes, it's just gimped for support. Once there's more devs developing for it, better gaming technology in OpenGL and better games will follow. It's a catch-22. - motters, on 11/06/2007, -0/+11I'm now using the ATI drivers on linux and they work very well. On the games on linux issue from my own experience looking for jobs over the last couple of years I know that games companies are seeking people with linux programming experience, so I expect to see commercial games released for linux over the next few years.
- trogdor282, on 10/28/2007, -0/+9Yup! I remember back when Linux was harder to use than Windows. No more. The hardest part of switching is learning all the differences. And that goes both ways - whenever I'm forced to use Windows, it's painful!
- sirhomer, on 10/29/2007, -0/+8UT2004, UT3, Doom 3, Quake 4, Quake Wars, Neverwinter Nights 2: Native
World of Warcraft, Half-Life 2: Wine (which is technically "Native")
Not sure about Warhammer Online or Bioshock, but Linux does support many games, much more then Mac OS X thanks to the existence of Wine. - aaronm67, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8Not really, UT3 and Quake wars will both support Linux.
Also, a lot of games run pretty well in Wine, though there's generally a performance hit. If you're a big PC gamer,. Linux wont work...but if you just want to play an occasional game, Linux will work fine. - Crisender111, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8Better late than never.
Others please follow suit & redeem yourself of your foolish insularity. - ChileanGoD, on 10/29/2007, -0/+8Can't a guy ask a honest question without getting dug down? I'm sorta getting used to having DIGG behaving like this: http://xkcd.com/50/
- subxero37, on 10/28/2007, -3/+11If it begins with "wonder" or "I wonder" it isn't a question, and thus requires no question mark. If you were leaving out "do you" (as in, "do you wonder") then no. No, I do not.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 10/28/2007, -1/+9awesome. not a real fanboy of amd or linux but love the diversity in OS drivers idea.
- kenadamsmith, on 10/28/2007, -1/+8he/she is right. They have linux driver since forever, but none of them are good. (yes i'm talking about ati driver)
- sirhomer, on 10/28/2007, -0/+7UT3 and Quake Wars are coming out for Linux. Those are some pretty major games.
- bratterscain, on 10/28/2007, -1/+8Yeah, you missed that episode. AMD is now sleeping with ATI. At one time, AMD had a little fling with Nvidia and birthed a good Nforce/AMD franchise. Like data through a gpu pipe, so are the days of our lives.
- twljagflba, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7Which in turn Phoronix broke the news about Catalyst 7.10 two days before the AMD site: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=11287
- ErBiC, on 10/28/2007, -2/+8There's a "Remember Me" box...
- Coldkill, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7Don't like it, then GO AWAY
- MasteRR, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6Stop feeding the troll, guys.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6YAY, I CAN FINALLY USE COMPIZ!
Oh, no open source? :( - trogdor282, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5I remember seeing somewhere that some games (WoW maybe?) under Wine ran slower than in XP, but FASTER than in Vista. Heh..
- bratterscain, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5Not just games but there are major upcoming games for Linux. Also driver updates increase stability and support for the desktop and various effects, plus better HD video viewing.
- airstrike, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5and the end of apple
- renegadeafk, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5AMD ARE open sourcing their drivers. They have already released a lot of documentation. Novell is working very hard on them now. AMD will still continue to make proprietary drivers as well.
- loopyloopy, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6AMD bought ATI, i dont know about 6 months or so ago
- ilikefun, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Yeah. this is definitely old news. I've been using these drivers for almost a week now.
- batmanganese, on 10/28/2007, -2/+7amd == ati
- Brennan, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4The drivers that have been out for a while, including this latest one work just fine with the X200M. I've been using Linux on mine, with 3d acceleration, for almost a year now dude.
- MasteRR, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4I know this is a stretch but has anyone tried this on Ubuntu 7.40 with a Radeon 9800? I I got them running but now whenever I try a 3d program I get the error "Xlib: extension "ATIFGLRXDRI" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual!" - bratterscain, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4Hard feelings, eh? Looks like you would know all about GNU and Linux considering your icon is the mascot. Stop crying and either develop games yourself or support linux and it's game devs in other ways if it's such a big issue to you.
- superyounan1, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4these drivers are still ***** for R350 users, wait for newer releases
- BassHead, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4There are already open source drivers for ATI cards. If they aren't good enough for you stop whining, roll-up your sleeves and get stuck in :)
Most people are happy for proper support from the manufacturer, which it seems we are now getting, open source or not. - bratterscain, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4By a lot of standards, if you are on Digg and a big PC gamer, you're a nerd. Maybe the few games we have for it, we're content on playing and thrive knowing support will only get better. What's your beef with OSS. Are you losing something from it? Get the ***** over it.
- cg0def, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4well it was about time that ATI ( sorry AMD ) start catching up with nvidia and the windows drivers. I really can't wait to install this. Oh and AIGLX support ... I really didn't think that was gonna happen ... way to go guys .
- tech42er, on 10/28/2007, -1/+4UT2004, UT3, Doom 3, Quake 4, Enemy Territory and Quake Wars all run natively. With wine, you can run many Windows games. Now will you ***** off, you stupid troll?
- DarkDx, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3***** you.
- reedatschool, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3Actually the never had an "empire" just a bunch of knock-off products and games they shove down the throat of a bunch of snot nosed kids. I know everyone shoots their load over Halo, but come on, the game is about as gay as it can get. A poor example of a FPS in my mind. The XBOX360 is a powerful console, don't get me wrong, I just have a hard time viewing MS as a "gaming" company. Jack of all trades and master of none comes to mind, but I am sure people would disagree.
- code_of_life, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4I'm not buying an ATI for atleast another year because of the pain they have caused me in linux over the years.
Go NVidia!!! - superyounan1, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3it doesn't affect myth tv support, video capture is still unsupported
- s1mph0ny, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3Yes, AMD has owned ATI for a while now. It might make sense to use the ATI brand name, except the management at ATI would never have supported an enthusiast project.
AMD has continued to be forward thinking in their support of products. I hope they do well, and will actually be considering a non-nvidia GPU for my next purchase. -
