- SniperZero, on 05/08/2009, -2/+19I love how people seem to not see the reply button.
- jcaino, on 05/08/2009, -0/+14They're showcasing it. You can configure it to your heart's content - that's the beauty of it. Just have it show the stuff you want/need. What a crazy idea, huh? Better tell Google there's no market for any such thing - they might want to cut their iGoogle stuff, eh?
- tidu, on 05/08/2009, -0/+13I expected an 8 monitor setup from the title...
- MikeSD34, on 05/08/2009, -1/+11Using an OS doesn't make you a fanboy; being a douche with a holier than thou attitude about it does.
- NiftyG, on 05/08/2009, -1/+10Conky : "Ready to assist you, Pee Wee!"
Pee Wee : "Good Morning, Conky, what's today's secret word?" - dhughes, on 05/08/2009, -0/+8 That's the point, it's fun to spend time configuring it - 99% of the time people sit looking at Facebook or lolcats at least this is something interesting.
- bencanfield, on 05/08/2009, -5/+12How do people enjoy having so much ***** on their desktops?
Why would I need to constantly know how much space is left on my hard drive?
Why would I need to know, at all times, the weather for the next 5 days, what my graphics card is, the temp of my computer, the date..etc? - d2cole, on 05/08/2009, -2/+9these look awesome...
any way i can get a similar thing on osx? - Knet88, on 05/08/2009, -0/+6To piss you off
- CoronaVegas, on 05/08/2009, -0/+5I thought "Conky" was the puppet on "Trailer Park Boys"?
- TheDatabit, on 05/08/2009, -0/+5I thought the same thing for a while. Then I saw people with nice(r than these) setups which had a few RSS feeds.
It'd be just a nice to have if it doesn't take to much processing power up and is blended into the background nicely.
Alas I'm to lazy to actually configure it. - perogi21, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4Hrmm, i thought crack was bad..
- battmutler, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4... PATRICK SWAYZEEEEEE
- Knet88, on 05/08/2009, -0/+4I use conky all the time, its on my Mepis8 and antiX machines and set to start at log-in. I don't use it because it looks good, I use it because it gives me a readout of my system resources. I don't think that conky will make anything "beautiful", if you have a nice looking desktop I think you usually want to make conky small and so that it will fade into the background.
When you drive your car, you check the dash every minute or so, but your keeping focus on the road, what you are doing, and occasionally checking out the scenery, and I figure its the same way here, the background/wallpaper & themes are the scenery, your applications are the road, and conky can be your dash. - Psylink, on 05/08/2009, -1/+5Conky : "Unemployment, because your career pretty much died when you waxed one off in an adult theater"
Pee Wee : "............" *holds up sign "will work for food or lube"*
Cowboy Curtis : "Pee Wee, you are the one let me take you to Zion where there is no unemployment so i can get rid of my jerry curl mullet."
Entire Playhouse : "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Tune in next time, when chairy cant figure out what that sticky substance is on her arm! - Knet88, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3no
- shadydentist, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3I dunno, I've always felt most conky configs to be too busy for me. Though the 'Simple Conky' one was really pretty.
- nenadsuperzmaj, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3You say "love" but it seems there's no lovin' involved...
(I agree btw :) - iceregulus, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3Anyone have a link to the wallpaper in #6?
- inactive, on 05/08/2009, -0/+3I want that Industry boat plane thingny !
where can i get that wallpaper - laelfrog, on 05/08/2009, -1/+4align Conky to the not left-hand side
- zaren, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2Holy cow, I totally forgot about GeekTool wwhen I rebuilt my MacBook. Downloading it right now.
- t0x2c, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2I was referring to 4 actually. KDE 3 and Gnome 2 run about the same as far as resource consumption, KDE may even be slightly higher. KDE 4 is significantly faster than either though.

- NobodyWhoCares, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2Samurize is kinda-sorta pretty similar for Windows. A lot easier to set up too as you have a WYSIWYG editor whereas Conky (last I checked) does not. Rainmeter is another decent one, but personally found Samurize a lot more flexible and easier to deal with.
- hirschab, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIcKKKKKKKYYYYYY
- goggleBOX, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2WYSIWYG = What You See Is What You Get
It means you edit things by moving them around rather than changing a text config file like Conky.
Yes it's WYSIWYG just like Dreamweaver but since you are not making web pages I would say it's going to be a lot different. - t0x2c, on 05/08/2009, -2/+4Some of these are pretty nice. They seem to run up a lot of resources however, with most running Compiz on top of Gnome. I prefer KDE, and yes you can run Conky on it.
- mynameistux, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2I am making an editor for conkyrc for my IT project, but it looks like it's not going to be any good. Hopefully someone will pick up the project, and remake, better
- trp642, on 05/08/2009, -1/+3Geektool can be tweaked out to look like that...
http://projects.tynsoe.org/en/geektool/ - inactive, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1Humm...
WYSIWYG editor like dreamweaver? - inactive, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1how do you do something like this on windows?
is there an easy, safe way? - Knet88, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1Running KDE 3.5 I find I have to use feh to get decent transparency.
- nix64, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1I have been using Conky for only a short time. It's nice and all, but it's bothersome how I have my conky info aligned to the left of the desktop, which is also where new files / removable devices appear. The conky info covers them up....is there any way to remedy this problem? (and please don't say, "align conky to the right-hand side" ;)
- SPNKrPunk, on 05/08/2009, -1/+2The alignment settings are found in this block in .conkyrc:
# Text alignment, other possible values are commented
alignment top_left
#alignment top_right
#alignment bottom_left
#alignment bottom_right
uncomment the line where you want your conky. - crackerjack20, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1I thought Conky was the name of the robot on PeeWee's Playhouse.
- freezerburn666, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1i had a problem where conky would be on top of everything on the desktop, to fix it i set a timer before conky starts about 30 seconds after the desktop loaded
- Codename, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1I'm actually using "Conky Flavours" right now, I've been using it for awhile, it's really slick looking.
- thushan, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1You need root access. *zing*
- nenadsuperzmaj, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1I was playing with conkz a bit, but it gave me some problems... The icons kept dissapearing when conkz was running, so i had to kill it. It's on Ubuntu 9.04 with conky installed from the standard repos....
Does anybody have similair problem? And is there a solution? Never tried to disable Nautilus to draw desktop, I couldn't live without that, I think... - TheDatabit, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1Screw you! lolcats are interesting!
- TheDatabit, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1can I digg myself down for shame?
- zerodaysoon, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1wtf thats right...i have to enable root again...thanks dood
- dcherryholmes, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1One thing I did that I've found to be convenient is to map a couple of hotkeys (in my case, from Compiz, CTRL-1, CTRL-2) to execute "conky" and "pkill conky". Makes it easy to flick it on and off.

;-) - yevkasem, on 05/16/2009, -1/+2so why didn't YOU use it?
- zerodaysoon, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1i tried replacing the the conky.conf file in the /etc/conky/conky.conf but it doesnt let me cuz of permission settings...wat am i doing wrong?
