- sigve, on 06/16/2008, -0/+8Live-CDs are also good - but generally too slow to give the actual Linux-feeling....
- daveisfera, on 06/16/2008, -0/+5Wubi is a pretty sweet idea/technology, but my understanding is that hybernation and a few other features don't work with it. Nevertheless, it's still a low risk way of trying out Linux and it was enough to get me to try it out.
- Loornadune, on 06/16/2008, -1/+6I hadn't heard about Wubi before. Thanks for the info :D
- Iravan, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3Wubi is great, makes installation a breeze
- scy1192, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2hm, didn't know about Wubi. I might give it a try.
- XGC75, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2Go Hardy! I'm loving it, been using it for a month
- 3242130193, on 06/16/2008, -0/+2Puppy Linux is a good choice too as you can run it completely from RAM. I don't know much about it yet, having never tried it myself, but it sounds like it's pretty sick. Plus, if you can boot from a USB drive (I'm so pissed that I can't), you can save your sessions to it and have it there when you reboot again. Try doing that on a live cd...
- XGC75, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I've used a live CD to save a windows installation. Go figure..
- vancanucksfan, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1wow,didnt know about wubi. great idea.
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Good to know that happens with everyone. I thought my CD drive was just crap.
- Bicep, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Wubi is totally cool, it uses the boot.ini of Windows to give them the choice to boot to Ubuntu but defaults to Windows. This sort of non-mind-controlling approach coupled with Ubuntu being installed as a program that can be removed via the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs makes it totally awesome!! Once the Windows users get a taste of the freedom Linux has to offer, they soon convert. Hooray for Linux!!
- peterjmag, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1LiveUSB FTW.
- popolop, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I remember when I tried installing Linux on my own a year and a half ago. Long story short, I ended up with no OS and a very pissed off father.
I'll defiantly look into these. - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/995/screenshotq ...
Alright, i'm officially very impressed. Less than 5 minutes and Ubuntu is fully up and running with full nVidia graphics support. - Briii, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1KNOPPIX is awesome i take it everywhere
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Glad to see you sticking it to the man.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Wubi looks really promising.
Tearing up my current HDD structure with another partition was the only thing holding me back from giving Ubuntu a try. - rabidmonkey1, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1There is no way I'd recommend Puppy to a novice. It's very fast and efficient and can fit on a USB drive, yes... But it's ugly and confusing for a first time user coming from windows - I'd been using Ubuntu for a while when I tried it and it took a lot of reading to get up to speed. I'd recommend the new Fedora before Puppy for a noob... which can also be installed to a USB stick and be booted.
- mintblogger, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1I think Wubi is the best option for novice users, who want to get the taste of Linux.
- tama00, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0What happened to the old days were we used to buy old computers and install linux on them?
- torrez, on 06/17/2008, -1/+0Wubi is better solution for newbie nut need hi internet connection in order to install it. Because Wubi will be download straight the sources from internet and this will make your installation are slow
