Well 26 isn't there, but hopefully 7 is good :) - IamNomad, on 03/08/2009, -3/+29you're a pro at trolling. I reviewed your recent activity and not a single positive, useful or funny comment was made.

We have to scrap this month's issue on linux-related questions because Coolone84 doesn't give a *****.
I guess we'll have to do a special issue on lolcats instead. - inactive, on 03/08/2009, -16/+40Reason I won't convert. I like using different systems for different purposes. Is this not allowed anymore?
- Guspaz, on 03/08/2009, -4/+28Speaking as a long-time Linux user:
Crap:
4: Many projects for Linux get abandonned, just like any other system.
6: These forced upgrades are overblown.
10: I have to reboot Linux just as often as I did Windows; whenever I applied a critical update. I have to restart X (tantamount to rebooting) far more often than I did Windows.
13: Simple? Not for the average computer user.
15: Yeah, because Firefox is so efficient when it comes to memory use.
16: Windows can access file systems from other operating systems (like EXT2) just fine, if you install drivers. Much like Linux needs drivers (be they FUSE or compiled into the kernel) to access file systems.
18: And Windows 2000 still runs just fine. Beyond a certain base amount, hardware requirements depend on what you want to do with your computer, not what operating system you're running on it.
22: Just because all code is *available* for inspection doesn't mean it *gets* inspected
26: There's still a need. EXT2/3 are just more resistant to it. Worse yet, EXT2/3 DO NOT HAVE any online defragmenters. This will be rectified in EXT4, which will include a defragmenter (about damn time). - t0ny, on 03/08/2009, -11/+33Wow, I'm about ready to stop using digg because of all the fanboys. I've been using Windows for the past 10 years, Linux for the past 4 years and Mac for the past 2 years. I'm freaking getting tried of all these fanboys that do nothing but bash anything thats not Windows and call everyone who uses anything else a fanboy when they are the true fanboys. Not convinced to use Linux from a article like this? Then dont use it.
- 3242130193, on 03/08/2009, -5/+27*****, you're right. Sorry for bringing it up. Thanks......
- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -5/+23this list can basically be summarized as
1. its free
2. its secure
3. its compatible
4. its customizable - t0ny, on 03/08/2009, -8/+25That is simply not true anymore.
- Coolone84, on 03/08/2009, -43/+591 reason for me not to convert to Linux:
I don't give a damn. - xkorbin, on 03/08/2009, -3/+19Not like Digg, ya know, the server systems you are posting this on, or anything, run Linux...
- holyskeleton, on 03/08/2009, -8/+24If I had a penny every time I see a reason to convert to Linux...
- DeathToaster, on 03/08/2009, -23/+38It's not that Linux sucks, it's that it takes too much work to use.
That and multimedia software is practically non existent. - inactive, on 03/08/2009, -6/+19I like linux, but seriously saying its free 23 times in different ways and then mentioning security and customization does not equal 25. Then the 2 reasons to convert to windows are laughable. How about the following as two reasons; support, software availability.
Linux will never be mainstream primarily because its community constantly misrepresents it. Does your company have servers? If yes then your company probably already uses some flavor of linux. Does your company place a high value on word processing? If yes then linux should probably not be an enterprise wide desktop. If my office suite needs never evolved I would still use windows 3.1 with Ami Pro.
Linux is great but people need to seriously shut the ***** up about it. - 3242130193, on 03/08/2009, -2/+15for i in {1..50}; do echo "$i. You're a tool, STFU"; echo; done
Beat yaaa
ps. i hope that works i didnt bother testing it - mynameistux, on 03/08/2009, -13/+26none asked you to listen.
Did you come all the way in here to say that? - U83RMENSCH, on 03/08/2009, -2/+14exactly what i thought when i read the title :/
if you havent at least given linux a try by now.. these reasons obviously didnt make sense to you the first two thousand times they where posted here :/ - buckrogers1965, on 03/08/2009, -7/+19Who is forcing you to read these articles? Inquiring minds want to know.
- travist120, on 03/08/2009, -3/+15I know, it's a pain in the ass to get that thing synced up.
Really wish Apple wasn't a douche. - U83RMENSCH, on 03/08/2009, -5/+17its an Operating system guys.. not a religion.. try them all.. use them all.. embrace them all.
- thePTS, on 03/08/2009, -4/+16VLC, Mplayer, Kaffeine, Gimp, Audacity, K3B, KAudioCreator, Krita.. and free.. are you joking?
apt-get install gimp
wow that was hard. I'd much search around for it and torrent it and get some spyware / backdoors into my system (if you think all software torrents are clean, you are not very bright). - U83RMENSCH, on 03/08/2009, -0/+12but if every one goes to linux and all the games ( yes thats whats driving a large portion of it ) and all the software is for linux.. whats the point of paying for an OS anymore?
- SeraphX, on 03/08/2009, -0/+11According to the page source it has a css reference ... doesn't look like it though.
- thePTS, on 03/08/2009, -7/+18Try applying the same logic to commenting, moron

Reason: you can experience a high level of superior support in online forums where you can expect a lightning fast response to the simplest questions with simple solutions, like "lol RTFM nub"
etc - ArthurSucks, on 03/08/2009, -2/+12*****! Ardour, Hydrogen, Rosegarden, and LMMS say otherwise.
- 3242130193, on 03/08/2009, -1/+11Well you'd be rolling so many pennies that after a while, you'd be like, *****, I'm just going to a Coinstar machine. Of course, this depends on how long it takes for your will to break before you submit to aforementioned machine taking the name of Coinstar.
- djgreedo, on 03/08/2009, -3/+12Yeah, the list was repetitive.
At best there were 10-15 unique reasons, and many of them were stupid, e.g. 'highly resistant to crashes' (Vista and Windows 7 are almost impossible to crash) and the misconception that Linux is the only OS with free / opem source software. - AndersLund, on 03/08/2009, -3/+12As long as all the drivers works the right way - a normal installation with no CLI usage can be done. If, however, your wifi card (or something else) is not working, most of the time, you will need to do something using CLI.
With Windows, the problem often can be solved by going to the hardware vendors website, download the driver and installing it. The only time you have to use the keyboard in this process is when you type "www.hardwarevendor.com".
There are always different scenarios for both operating systems, but for most of the time, the above is true. - thePTS, on 03/08/2009, -2/+11Trolling? ASP.NET is a piece of *****. I develop for a MS Gold Partner, and my office neighbour, who is unfortunate enough to have to work with it, is constantly asking me for help and slamming his head in the wall. It's really one of the worst APIs / environments I have ever seen. The people who made it should consider drowning themselves.

1 reason to not use Linux - You have to drudge through forum after forum of questions, and spend weeks searching for answers to do something you can do in windows or OSX in 3 clicks of a button. (Speaking specifically of setting up a RAID). - Gndoab, on 03/08/2009, -0/+9Holy *****! you used a random persons name! it must be true!
- jamestwisleton, on 03/08/2009, -1/+9THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENLIGHTENING STATISTICS
- 3242130193, on 03/08/2009, -4/+12Thanks for directing that one at me with that fancy arroba, cause I'd've had no idea who you were talking to if you didn't.
In any case, to deal with your FUD that it's the OS's fault: it's not. The iPhone is a locked up piece of *****, it's apple's tool for forcing people to conform to its own software on the OS platforms that they choose/are forced to settle with because its creator has a monopoly on the markey. And to be honest, there are far better, more fully featured, better-valued cellular devices out there. That is, once you stop believing that the brand name adds thousands of dollars in value worth the price. Also, sorry for caring more about productivity and value than 'trends.'
Thanks for being a douche. - kahrn, on 03/08/2009, -5/+13You don't give a damn about linux, yet you're browsing the linux_unix section, and you even bothered to comment? Seems to me like you give quite a lot of damn.
Note: If this message is in error and you really DON'T give a damn please remove linux_unix/ from any of your rss feeds and ignore it in your preferences. - buckrogers1965, on 03/08/2009, -1/+9Because pointing and clicking is different some how?
- 3242130193, on 03/08/2009, -4/+12It's on my shopping list, trust me, but it's not easy when you have to live off a PhD's stipend.
- xino, on 03/08/2009, -2/+10I nominate your comment for the "best comment on digg award" for March 2009.
- Krekko, on 03/08/2009, -9/+17NO. Thank you for the list but NONE of these reasons are good enough to get me convert. You can use it all you want and lovebump it ALL NIGHT LONG. Just QUIT trying to push it on the rest of us. We will convert if we want to.

11. It's Software is free - dotRoot, on 03/08/2009, -1/+8I didn't spend loads and loads of time "learning Linux". The only real thing that holds Linux back still now is the fact that you have to do things a little different than in Windows, just like Macs. I've been using Linux for a very long time and all those horror stories about modern hardware not working and having to compile (which isn't actually hard anyway) stuff is just false.
Companies are starting to learn that Linux actually does save money, even if you end up buying a Support License from someone like RedHat. Why do you think most webservers, mail servers, etc. use Linux? Because its cheaper and its stable. For the Desktop, Linux has obviously gotten better, because Vista's "new features" and WIndows 7's "newer features" were almost all taken from KDE, GNOME, ext3/ReiserFS, and the Linux Kernel. -
