- heliosys, on 10/17/2007, -1/+4This article is a paradox by itself. Most part of it is about advantages of Linux, licensing savings, security, and open standard/source. However at the end of it he is talking about switching from Linux to windows is better in some case.
The example he gave for switching from Linux to windows is a paradox too. In the first example, if you are using Linux where are you going to find windows license when downsizeing. That example is saying Linux admin cost more then windows, which bring in question like "Is the initial licensing savings going to cover the long term maintains cost"
The second example is even better, Microsoft paying for your hardware, and training. - MagicCake, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1There are plenty of reasons to do it, but I'll give you one reason I won't: games. Now if you'll excuse me, the Orange Box is calling.
- leetleo, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1My experience in IT has taught me that FREE always comes at a price. Quality and support is usually directly related to how much you're willing to pay for it. For MOST businesses, you just can't get that necessary level of support free of charge. This argument that everything on Linux is free so that makes it the best is a seriously flawed perspective that should not be perpetuated. Free doesn't mean good... it just means free, and while free Linux software might be an extremely cost effective solution for a savvy geek start-up, most businesses need to know that they can rely on support that is held accountable by their money.
Linux should be promoted on the basis of it its secure architecture, time tested and widely revised code base, and its superior performance... not on "WELL IT'S FREE ZOMG" - Directrix1, on 10/17/2007, -0/+126) Ubuntu is now bigger than Jesus

free as in freedom, not always free as in beer. there are plenty of linux-centric companies that provide support for linux and free software and charge for such services. and yes, someone boasting linux on the premise of "free" displays inexperience in my opinion and is frankly just another blogger looking for hits via summarizing someone else's Top list.
