- SoulMaster2, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32nothing like switching to linux from windows to use windows
- afruff23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23So you're nobody and you care about vista?
- sirdaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Dugg up for a tutorial with non-terminal use. THAT is what is causing people to turn away.
- russellnation, on 10/11/2007, -8/+16nobody here cares about vista
and by nobody i mean me - specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"But before we go further, a note: don’t start Linux inside the VM. If you do accidentally start Linux, turn the VM off immediately - otherwise your files may be eaten as Linux checks a running disk. Consider yourself warned."
Niiice - Stonekeeper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I'd love to do this in virtualbox rather than vmware server. I find vmware server a bit cumbersome and slow next to VirtualBox. To see the difference in speed compare the draw times of the ubuntu text installer. vmware is _slow_.
- Toshibi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I just quit using Windows all together. Nothing there for me now.
- nailer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Considering the amount of time I spent in GIMP making it, I hope not. If anyone knows how to properly deform an image along arbitrary multiple points, let me know.
- thinkingserious, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Wish I would of saw this before I made my switch to Ubuntu. I now have Windows running in VMware but I installed from scratch.
- nailer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Are you using VMware server from Canonical's package? Have you made sure you selected the custom option to create the VM?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Does anybody know if this works with vista?
- Tennyson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3This is really odd, I just did this yesterday. I didn't have any guides but ended up following exactly the process outlined. The main reason for doing it this way was to allow me to migrate off Windows gradually while still being able to boot back into it if I needed to. Some of the more hardware specific things I need, 3G card, VPN etc, will take a little while to get working under Linux. The good thing about this setup is that I don't need to duplicate any of my Windows setup or data.
- daftman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't get the fear of the terminal. Please explain it to me. Do people fear things that are in black and white?
Does typing command is more frightful than 20 mouse clicks? - nailer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nope.
There was an article from the same site about seamless virtualization (running most Windows apps directly on Ubuntu's desktop) posted a week ago.
This article is about starting your dual boot Windows install inside Ubuntu (and still being able to start it from your hard disk).
We published it because a lot of the people who read the seamless virtualization article wanted to do it with their existing dual-boot installs. - Malachai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I kid you not. I just got done reinstalling a corrupted installation because I accidentally booted to Ubuntu.
Imagine the shock I felt when I saw "sudo: command not found." - silverfires, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I like clicking!
- Burritoking924, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Can I get some help here. When I;m on the select a disk screen, I don't have the option for a physical drive. Does that make a difference?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5This took me more than 15 minutes....
- Malachai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I kid you not. I just got done reinstalling a corrupted installation because I accidentally booted to Ubuntu.
Imagine the shock I felt when I saw "sudo: command not found." - Burritoking924, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I didnt select custom install. That was my problem. Now I BSOD without even starting the OS. Oh well.
- CCmachined, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the question is: do games run properly?? im virtualbox there is _none_ directx support.. not even directdraw.
- dstz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I'm afraid that nobody is actually Terence Hill.
( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070215/ very good movie, a heartfelt late homage to the Western genre. ) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Wasn't this on the frontpage yesterday already? Laaaaame...
- dav0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0yes and yes. normal computer users are very visual and dont want to memorize commands.
- SteveTheSultan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Couldn't I save the 15 minutes and just use windows? That makes ubootoo real simple
- taswizard, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What? Not 10 minutes?
http://www.venturecake.com/10-minutes-to-run-every-windows-app-seamlessly-on-your-ubuntu-desktop/ - schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2That's a nice image. It makes XP looks like the Blob, or some worm seeking to devour another O/S. Isn't that the same image from the new Softpedia article?
- nateabel, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3Dugg down for being Ubuntu related.
