- xceptionaly, on 03/28/2008, -7/+184Yet another connection between linux and virgins. Coincidence?
- Philluminati, on 03/28/2008, -3/+53Can you send out a plane-wide invitation out to join the mile high club?
- Wargalas, on 03/28/2008, -6/+35"They're"
- Gryffydd, on 03/28/2008, -2/+30Would you want to? Have you ever been on a commercial flight? It's like Wal-Mart in a tube.

- DanBoodro, on 03/28/2008, -5/+27*they're
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 03/28/2008, -1/+17It's Linux and Virgin, of course you can't.
- CAPITALLETTERS, on 03/28/2008, -4/+19Is Linux too hard for you to use? awwwwwwww, poor you.
- theghoul, on 03/28/2008, -0/+12Thats actually a fantastic idea.
In flight chat is a marketing dream:
"Hey, where is there a good place to eat?"
"Whats fun to do"
"Any parties happening"
"where can I buy...."
Also, you have a captive audience. Imagine the commercials you can display.
Lastly, best of all, its Linux and costs are low.
Good business move. - dajuggernaut, on 03/28/2008, -0/+12but only to the hot chick seating in 35 E
- LogicBomB, on 03/28/2008, -0/+11Problem with the world #1
- Gryffydd, on 03/28/2008, -2/+12I wondered how many posts it would take before somebody connected Linux and Virgins...
(3) - AsSubtleAsABrik, on 03/28/2008, -1/+11Did you seriously expect your comment to be dugg up? Troll.
- bradleyland, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10lol @ vincentweber
Talk about "not getting it." - grindmygears, on 03/28/2008, -0/+9Yeah, and momsshizzle appears to be just a dumbed down version of a human...
- Brian48216, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8I flew with them cross country and impressed the hell out of me. Clean cabin, nice seats, cheap price-
the entertainment system was really just a bonus, I never had it crash on me, but it does tend to be slow when you're running the satellite TV and the google maps program at the same time. - Hindu_Wardrobe, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8I think British Airways does too. Linux is common on planes.
- atomiku, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8Not at all. He was just correcting someone else's careless grammar mistake.
- tripzero, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8actually she's sitting in 36 D
- Jist, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8When I fly, I'm more concerned with getting from point A to point B in one piece. Anything else is just an added bonus.
- coit, on 03/28/2008, -0/+7It isn't 149 separate units....
- yoshiminiyuki, on 03/28/2008, -2/+9its a plane, its superman!, no!... its a penguin!!!! high five, and props. this is one plane I want to go on.
- init100, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6It has been for a long time. Ask Id Software, they did the porting.
- h4mx0r, on 03/28/2008, -3/+9I loved my flight on Virgin America, but it's still fairly new I think. I felt comfortable in my seat, but the remote control thing in my seat was broken, so I couldn't play games or etc. Also, in my two hour flight, the system crashed like twice, so I actually didn't have much time to toy with it. I heard maybe like four songs and saw a segment of a paintballing match. (The channel changing was like frozen or something)
Virgin America is awesome, but it still has a way to go for it's entertainment system. - Daniel591992, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Tam, a Brazilian airline, uses some ancient version of Windows on their screens :/
- buddyw, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Any day now we are going to hear about the new Planebuntu. distribution targeted at airlines.
- bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -2/+7If every passenger gets a bash shell, then I'll be impressed. Otherwise it really doesn't matter what OS is running under a proprietary interface.
- stevebor1, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5All you kids get so giddy of linux. I have been working for Panasonic for awhile now and all our IFE run on linux, which are on most airlines today. We recently ported Firefox to run on the handheld PMP. Just another day in the life of open software.
- lengau, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5@vincent - There are some people not worth trying to explain it to.
- diggsahole, on 03/29/2008, -0/+4I was in Jack in the Box late the other night and watched their JackTV reboot -- They're running Fedora.
- DavX, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Yeah that's completely necessary.
- ab2650, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5149 "boxes", eh?
More accurately would be "a few" boxes with many screens... While I certainly like flying VA and their entertainment system is fun, it is horribly dated and plagued by problems.
It's actually during those (somewhat often) reboots that you can clearly see that the plane is, at least the 4 I've been on, divided up in sections for the entertainment system. I'd estimate about ~30 seats per 'section' that all reboot at the same time. You can get a pretty good look at the booting screen and notice that your seat isn't tty1.
I have nothing against VA; I'd fly them again in a heartbeat, however the entertainment system has nothing to do with my choice (whereas seat comfort, low price and power at the seat are my deciding factors.) - mohamedmansour, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4They said testing was done within 4 years
- buddamus, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Start by kissing my ass *****
- hello2usir, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4In the words of my wife: "His eyebrows are too bushy. Jawline too big. Beady eyes, and awful haircut. Unhealthily pale. 6/10 and that's without taking into account his delusional narcissism."
- mohamedmansour, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4That is what I thought, it isn't boxes, it should be 149 embedded devices that run linux.
- Sethwm2, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Why when is comes to demonstrating linux they show a port of Doom playing, just like on the iphone and on the original ipod linux project... Great game though :P
- danielsamuels, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4This isn't YouTube.
- yogiincork, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4mmhmmm....wait....linux IS the kernel!!!!
- o0JoeCool0o, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4no really we all believe you.
- init100, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3JerryLeeCooper, is that you?
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3planewide deathmatch sounds like an awesome idea
- ronin691, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3There was an offer by Microsoft for an airline version of SYNC, but it was declined since the average passenger associates what's on the screen with air safety: http://daimyo.org/_detail/bsod/bsod_termini.jpg?id ...
- chrisfly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3geez. now if only VA had flights that actually left my city...
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3i'm guessing you think leona lewis or whoevers in the top 40 is a better musician than anyone else because they are currently selling the most cds?
- kevyn, on 03/28/2008, -1/+4awesome... let me go get my BFG9000
- norcalscan, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3giggity
- rizo83, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Only disappointing thing about VA's Red is that you can't network DOOM :(
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3From my last plane trip (2005), Air canada's tv systems ran on linux. Mine crashed, so they had to reset it. No, I'm not bashing on linux.
