- laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1heh, I don't know if I'd ever use it? but it's a good step towards user friendly linux.

- atezun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the idea, but I personally would much rather see something that rivals the iApps before I have a desire for .Mac.
- snooo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As cool as it is, this is very old (dated last october)
- djgraphite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More than that. If it's tiered like .Mac never was, it can be and might be used by even OS X Users. It should have a free tier for sure.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, are we going to say how they are 'stealing' things from apple, like you guys say about microsoft, or is it being open source ok since there is no origininality in open source (hello open office).
- sonic767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The more I see of these Ubuntu folks, the more I like what I see. They're a slick outfit, they'll go far.
- jbus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great idea for all of us (k)ubuntunians.
I'll be keeping my eye on this. - snooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They're a slick charity... I just hope Shuttleworth has enough cash in the coffers to keep the party going. There aren't any enterprises out there to pay the bills.
- andellmoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll use .Mac for Ubuntu so long as its free of course. I have no doubt that it has potential if they get it going right.
- Mediaright, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Jeez. I hope this doesn't get anywhere. Who wants to pay money for this kind of stuff. You can get it free in 10+ other places. .mac (though I may someday buy it) and all of the services are for those with more money than sense. I hope this fails.
- rc55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think its a great idea. Ubuntu in general has an excellent philosophy - bear in mind a lot of detractors here ignore how well integrated this could be with the Ubuntu desktop. Exciting stuff.
- quackdoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I d be more than willing to pay for such a thing if and when they make the charges reasonable. As broadband netwroks grow,it wuld be easier to park my files online...
The wiki entry is still in a nascent stage but would be interesting to see as to how the changes are affected. Way to go guys! Positive DIGG. - xiloki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll never use this. I like my ubuntu My Way(tm).
- nuxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very cool idea indeed...i use ubuntu all the time...it'd be nice to see something like this for PC-BSD too, killer OS, almost like Mac...without all the proprietary *****.
- veracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does indeed sound interesting. I love Ubuntu, and even if I don't use this, I think it's a great way to create community.
- brlewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a dedicated person, and I've already implemented a news/photo sharing site that integrates well with Ubuntu. And I'll continue to improve it. And it's cheap. With gthumb's slick file copy menu option, it remembers several directories you've recently copied to, so if you have scripts that shrink photos in one directory and pack full-size photos in the other directory into one zip archive, your typical file-upload web page will work fine. You don't need fancy desktop integration, and it doesn't need to be Ubuntu-specific (although that's the desktop I use). You just need gthumb or an app with similar capabilities.
- JackCampbell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0.Mac is a cool idea, but its really expensive. I just bought iLife 06 and I was really excited about iWeb only to find that you need to register an account with .Mac to publish anything. But i hope this procedure will be different in Ubuntu, its a cool distro
- bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0unfortunately it's vaporware. anyone can come up with an idea, but you need dedicated people to actually implement them. :(
- joncarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0.Ubu?
- mikeod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If they can get a strong user base with a working product then it will be worth millions.
- brlewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You would have to be a dedicated person to implement .Mac. But you didn't implement it, Apple did. You use it.
The second and third biggest users of my site after me are Windows users, and they don't have as good desktop integration as I do. I'm not talking about writing web pages in a text editor. Nor do you have to write your own scripts if you can use someone else's, e.g. mine. I'm talking about a user process you can get a feel for in an hour, and then can do in 5 minutes whenever you have a few pictures on your camera. - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have .Mac now. I enjoy it. Don't have to be a "dedicated" person to implement it and yeah, I DO need desktop integration because...well, it's a joy to use.
After years of building my own systems and even building my OS (Gentoo and Linux from Scratch distros), I've grown out of that phase. OSX gives me all the power I wanted before if I desired it...but it's SO nice not to have to ***** around with it anymore. I mean, it's like a breath of fresh air again for me. And that's "for me". Everyone else's experience or wants are different than mine and I wouldn't dare try to impose my computing experience with theirs. Use what you want. But for this Ubuntu idea to work, they really need to implement solid desktop tools as Apple has done with their .Mac stuff. You really should use the iLife and .Mac stuff for a while...meaning like a week or so...and you'll see what I mean. But again, if you're used to building web pages using nothing more than a text editor and you LOVE that, it's not going to sway you. - Nerevar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, definitely another reason to like Ubuntu. I'm a huge fan, and this is just making me happy that I am.
- RexStJames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would be fun, especially if you were able to run the hosting off your own (Ubuntu (nUbuntu?), of course) computer as a server. No reason you couldn't do that, maybe not for your average user but it could be an option.
- brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This will take at least a year to get going.
- apollo2011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>Isn't UBUNTU a LANGUAGE?
No, its African for "towards humanity". Not a language, just a word. - sailor420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Doubt it'll ever happen. As it says, it's a low priority project, and things like Ubuntu's pretty fast release system are going to keep bumping that down the list. I'd like to see it happen, but personally, I think it's vaporware, like someone else already said.
Disclaimer, I love Ubuntu and use it as my primary OS. But yeah, I still don't think this will happen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Isn't UBUNTU a LANGUAGE?
