- jord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like they've already removed it?
- velocipenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ticketmaster is evil.
- scanman20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ticketbastard
- smoothoperatah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that sucks.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0meh
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To bad, but at least it apears like they removed it.
- spling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am I the only one who is thinking "good on ticketmaster for removing the image when the copyright infringement was brought to attention?"
- n8agrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this isn't the first time I've seen images ripped from flickr. there have been some floating around that have ended up on international websites, and good luck getting removed.
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3That's hilarious. What's more hilarious is her threatening email of legal action. Somehow, I doubt Ticketmaster is that worried about some little girl taking them to court over 1 jpeg.
I want to see this case go to court. I really do. It'll be comedy gold!
What's the betting our friend rattling her sabre has, in the past, violated copyright herself? (Anyone who says they've never violated a copyright is a liar.)
I love the self righteous indignation from people over this sort of thing, who after posting how horrified they are, probably head off to Mininova to download the latest episode of Family Guy... - Slipdisc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"I love the self righteous indignation from people over this sort of thing, who after posting how horrified they are, probably head off to Mininova to download the latest episode of Family Guy."
exactly. I say big deal. Infringements like this happen every second.
http://albertpacinosucks.be/ - MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good to see that ticketmaster took it down.
- Demonoid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I don't go to as many concerts anymore, partly due to the insane prices. Then the ticket-master kick ya in da balls fees.
http://www.electricsix.com - djspade313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well they pulled the pic... but I hope she still sues their asses for everything she can get.
- djspade313, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0... Drood & Slipdisc ...
The only difference is that companies like Ticketjacker have suits and loot to research sh!t so they don't infringe on peoples copyrights... so I still say... ... SUE THEIR ASS 2 THA GROUND ;) ... - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1what the hell is wrong with you people?
why the hell are you complaining about something so stupid?
It's interesting how you all bitch and complain when you copy an image from a site, and then the site threatens to sue you. But when it's the other way around, it's somehow equivalent to killing babies.
Who cares?! The internet is about free information. Silly things like this should be in the public domain. She didn't lose anything by them showing the picture.
Does Ticketmaster suck ass? I could care less. But complaining about 1 person using a photo taken by another person, that's just wasting your time. - n8agrin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"That's hilarious. What's more hilarious is her threatening email of legal action. Somehow, I doubt Ticketmaster is that worried about some little girl taking them to court over 1 jpeg."
Have you ever had a photo stolen and used by someone for their own profit? Or a website layout ripped that someone else gets credit for it? Imagine if this is how you make a living and you are getting nothing for someone using your work, wouldn't you be a bit upset?
You can't make blanket statements about people's actions (ie going off to download Family Guy) and claim they are hipocrits unless you know they are doing that specifically. In this case it's a blatent disregard of the artist's ownership of the work. They (Ticketmaster) did the right thing by taking the photo down and the artist did the right thing by writing them a letter asking them to take it down, or face legal consequences... That's how business gets done. - Twasi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0What a joke, they took it down right away when it was brought to their attention. She has no case, I would love to see her 'sue' them because of one picture. The term 'cry more' comes to mind. How about she gets sued for every copyright she's violated hmm? Everyone's broken a copyright I guess she just doesn't care until it happens to her, hypocrite.
- automagically, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Big business should know better, simple as that. They have a lot more on the line. Like suing McDonald's for a million dollars for spilt coffee only because you know they got the money. You wouldn't sue your friend or local diner for that. Whatever website maintainer put that on there should be disciplined or fired for potentially causing a lawsuit for the company.
- gmp3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excuse me if I'm wrong, but every image on Flickr is only copyrighted by Creative Commons licenses, which, i do believe gives Ticketmaster full right to use it in whatever they want, that's how i understand it, if your a lawyer and know differently, please fill me in, that's one of the reasons i don't use Flickr so much anymore.
- polvo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Drood - love your sexist remarks calling her a "little girl".
Do you know her? Then why do you assume that she is infringing others copyrights?
Talk about blaming the victim. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That users images weren't under CC licence.
- SuperMoonMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. I'm not sure about this one. Isn't this not good for the whole idea of freedom of everything and such? You know, free content for everyone to use, indie music, podcasting...the whole take back the media thing? Shouldn't it be almost a good thing that Ticketmaster took the images of an amateur photographer (if this is an amateur photographer, anyway) and used them for their site? Maybe I'm just tired...
- Nothlit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gmp3, each individual Flickr user can determine whether to license his or her images under Creative Commons, or whether to reserve all their rights under traditional copyright. In this case, the original photographer had reserved her copyright.
- Bigbro69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good on them for taking it down promptly, I don't see why you're complaining when they took it down...
- se7en, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0SUE
- Dingle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow. You should be proud that ticketmaster used your picture instead of ready to sue them.
- mattrmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The photo owner should charge Ticketmaster with a convenience charge :)
- reets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0who cares, it's a picture
- jollyfats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Offtopic related to McDonalds comment: Please check out the real story behind the coffee spill lawsuit. There's a lot more to it than what the popular press or comedians mention. And I don't think the lady in that lawsuit actually got the money (at least the MM that was awared to her). Random related site (google search): http://lawandhelp.com/q298-2.htm
- Dingle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya this is kinda ironic. We all steal movies, TV shows, music, pictures for our own uses and think its ok. But when a huge company does it to us we throw the red flag.
- mdunmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a huge difference in personal use and making money off someone else's work. And you can bet that if you started making money off the movies, TV shows and music that you stole the owners of those things would be on you in a hurry. This IS a big deal!
- masoncooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Drood:
That looks like a standard copyright takedown notice. See how she affirms under penalty of perjury that she is the legal copyright holder. That was most likely a form-letter she filled out to properly notify ticketmaster. - kali25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1She did not own the copyright, Yahoo did. I but if you read the fine print that it says that any content you post on Flickr becomes the property of Yahoo, Inc. I could probally go find it but I am lazy.
- kali25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WOW, I just read the terms of service and she still did own the copyright, that is amazing. Guess I was wrong. Ticketmaster should be sued, I am sure this is done hundreds of time, some lazy webdude at Ticketmaster just rips the image, he/she is in hot water now.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats next? are they gonna start stealing pics from peoples myspace pages? i wouldn't be surprised.
- 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe by reproducing a Ticketmaster web page with concert and ticket information on Flickr, Kathryn Yu has now committed copyright infringement. Well maybe not, but it would be cool if she did.
- infectedRoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ticketmaster has taken the pics down, but thanks to google cache, it reveals that ticketmaster indeed still has the image on their servers!!!!

*** gasp *** - gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0dugg
- bluefire0728, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An issue dealing with:
- copyright infringement
- a Flickr user
- Colin Meloy of The Decemberists.
Wow, if I could, I'd digg it 3 times over. - grayBot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is just some ticketmaster trying to stay under budget and telling some intern.....eeh.... just find to photo on the internet...
some kid was prollly used to using flickr and forgot to check the copyright... but it looks like she could def win the case here
And this is def not the same as people downloading music for personal use , Ticketmaster and thier "service" charges have been a monopoly hurting artist in the one area where the actually get to make a profit.
Remember Pearl Jam ... even they couldnt beat ticketmaster .... so now that this women can make em bleed alittle I say go for it.
In all fairness Ticketmaster is just like Microsoft and other monopolies before them....capitalism gone bad that hurts most everyone except the company. - dmsteg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To those giving kudos for ticket master taking down the photos... the page says the event doesnt exist in theire database and looking at the screencap on the origonal page, the concert took place on the 21st.
So it's not so much that Ticket Master made good on theire wrongdoing as much is the page just no longer exists. - cyclotron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Apparently you guys think the CEO at TicketMaster ordered company policy to be to steal Flickr images. I, on the other hand, think that the person responsible for creating those events stole the image on their own accord... making this not a huge scandle but the embarring proof that too many amatuers are possing as professional web designers or content creaters.
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who the hell is Colin Meloy anyway?
- ryanonroam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From personal experience using the Ticketmaster system it is the artist's booking company or label that uploads the pictures, tour dates, bio & all that stuff. You actually think that Ticketmaster would take the time to do all that crap themselves??? Find out who their booking company is and place the blame there.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Its just a picture of the ***** guy. Who gives a *****? Its not like Ticketmaster was making money off of this single picture. Just showing what the guy looks like and selling his tickets.
- TheRob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0---------------------------------------
If this woman would just charge people a more reasonable fee, then people wouldn't HAVE to steal from her.
Isn't that how it works? I read pretty much EVERY ONE of you say that about music and movie downloading.
jkfan87

Well your wrong and stupid. Ticketmaster didn't contact her to even find out what she would charge to use the photo. so therefore your stupid half@$$ analogy doesn't even work out. - alex007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Tell me, in what way is this anything important?? This isn't news. It's simply spam, someone wants revenge. If it was at least funny... its not. Comon. An embarasment to digg.com
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w/e
- Aeplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If the photographer were to be awarded money, would she give Colin a piece of the action?
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i see that as props if they use a pic i took and posted openly on the internet.
