The Piratebay Returned To Its Base
torrentfreak.com — After a short stay in The Netherlands the torrent tracker moved back to their provider PRQ in Sweden. The “reverse DNS” sends out a clear message to the MPAA and their friends: hey.mpaa.and.apb.bite.my.shiny.metal.ass.thepiratebay.org.

- spectre, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Re-SPECT, baby. That's how it's done!
That said, while I'm glad they're back home, I won't be logging on again. I mean seriously, the fed's are watching them like flies on ***** and I'd prefer not to have my IP show up on a federal watch list. Again. - bonchbonchbonch, on 10/12/2007, -33/+53I know this risks getting me marked down, but I'm the kind of guy who believes in challenging entrenched belief systems.
The Digg position appears to be:
* Piracy--aka, taking copyrighted material with the artists' permission--is great in every way. ***** paying artists for their work. Anyone trying to protect their intellectual property rights by shutting down piracy services is evil.
* Eric Bauman of Ebaumsworld takes copyrighted material without the artists' permission, and this is...wrong! He should be shut down via the DMCA, and up with artist rights! How dare someone take an artist's work without his or her permission and without paying them a dime.
Does anyone else see the total self-serving contradiction here? It really illustrates the fact that a lot of pro-piracy viewpoints are formed solely on the basis that the person wants to get ***** for free without having to pay for it. That's simple freeloading. At least think through your belief systems before you adopt one. - dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Agreed... what can you say. People are selfish and self-righteous. The corporations aren't something people can put a face on so they can rationalize that it's not actually taking anything from 'a person'...
- shredomatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+69@bonchbonchbonch:
Piratebay doesn't watermark other people's work and try to pass it off as their own while giving no credit to the original creator, all the while making money off of it. That is why eBaum is a piece of *****. - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Personally I believe the artist should be compensated. If I could donate to the artist DIRECTLY I would. Probably for even more than the cost of the CD.
Since I can't do that I would rather go to their concerts, buy their merch etc since they get more money from that.
My view is this: Most artists recognize that CDs are just a form of advertising, and some even encourage downloading. The people that are losing money from it are the people that don't deserve the money to begin with.
But just download from iTunes. It's 99 cents. - UnknownCzar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The way people look at piracy is that when downloading some popular song or a popular movie, you're "stealing" from some rich millionaires and the corporation they works for. Hence, "stealing" one song from them doesn't really harm them and their million dollar fortunes.
On the other hand, the artists who make the stuff the ebuam "steals" are not millionaires, they are normal folks that the pirates can view not as symbols but as people. "Stealing" from people is wrong in almost any ones eyes. "Stealing" from a symbol, like a millionaire or a corporation, doesn't seem that bad to most people. - Bakagamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You fail to note that this is in fact, a personal case for ebaumsworld.com's authors of "original content" who don't see a dime from their flash movie they make while in the *AA's case, it's a bunch of lawyers who sue the ***** out of everything that has the possibility of 'infringing copyright'.
- critic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1spectre - "I'd prefer not to have my IP show up on a federal watch list. Again."
I have mixed feelings about that. Part of me sez, their watching you, the other part sez *****-em, let's draw them out and see just how far this whole NSA crap has gone.
I use to test network security by seeking il legal files. No il legal files...network not worth trusting. Case in point EarthStation 5 vs Kazza.

Dude I'll be the first to admit I don't care what you think. It would be an excellent point if it mattered. FREE HAT! - burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2bonchbonchbonch, here is the thing. The people who copy things via BT do not turn around and make money off of them (I know some do, but they are pricks). Ebaum takes stuff and then puts it on his ad laden site, essentially using it as content to make money. That's why he is a scumbag and the pirate bay are righteous freedom fighters (just being facetious, but you get the point).

- m00kie, on 10/12/2007, -35/+7I like BT because I no longer have to pay for my entertainment needs. I remember buying DVDs and CDs, that was really cruel and unusual punishment. There's just too much good stuff out there to fill my emptiness with that I really can't afford to pay for all of it.

The MPAA and RIAA are using questionable tactics to protect the revenue streams of companies employing outdated business models. This includes manipulating the legislative process to serve their own ends.
Why did it take these industries so many years to adapt to new technology and customer preferences? Why should I have had to pay $18.99 or even $12.99 for disc with only two good songs on it? Why do these industries feel that it is better to sue customers and leverage law enforcement into protecting their outdated business models when they could adapt and give potential customers adequate incentive to purchase music legally?
Because these industries haven't been doing the right thing all along, I feel that they deserve all the trouble that groups like Pirate Bay can give them. They shouldn't escape the consequences of their bad decisions, and I for one cheer when groups like PB give em the finger. - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"m00kie, I think you are overlooking some valid points. Except when you take a CD, the shop owner doesn't have it anymore, etc., etc. - lj535i, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1geekee- the point is, why can't the recording industry shift to a strategy that gives an adequate incentive for doing the right thing instead of punishing potential customers for doing the wrong thing?
Absolutist positions like "stealing is wrong, and it's wrong no matter what" while true in the strict sense don't help us get to a solution. We shouldn't need to have a Pirate Bay around to allow many to download music without paying, but it is a valid reaction to the hypocrisy and inflexibility of the industry.
As for the "done my part" comment- this was to make it clear that the rules I play by include paying for what I listen to or watch, but apparently that was not clear enough for you. - Denelson83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@lj535i
>Why do these industries feel that it is better to sue customers and leverage law enforcement into protecting their outdated business models when they could adapt and give potential customers adequate incentive to purchase music legally?
It's because the business model the RIAA and MPAA are using is basically allowing them to get something for nothing, and they don't know another way to get it. They don't want to do the hard work, like churn out something we'd actually like; they do stuff like have copyrights extended and sue people left and right just to get money for essentially "little or no work."
Hmmm..... Sounds a little bit like the "Adscam" we had here in Canada about a year ago.
Face it, the *AAs are living in the past; they deserve to get left behind.

I don't know how good at math you are, but a value less than 1 (I assume that's what you mean by astronomically small, since 1 isn't astronomically small) to a negative power is greater than 1 because a negative power means 1 divided by that value to the ABS(n)th power. Do you see what I'm talking about. In fact the smaller the value, the larger the result, because the more times it goes in to 1.

"Nothing is given to man on earth . Everything he needs has to be produced. And here man faces his basic alternative: he can survive in only one of two ways-- by the independent work of his own mind or as a parasite fed by minds of others. The creator originates. The parasite borrows. The creator faces nature alone. The parasite faces nature through an intermediary.
"The creator's concern is the conquest of nature. The parasite's concern is the conquest of men.
"The creator lives for his work. He needs no other men. His primary goal is within himself. The parasite lives second-hand. He needs others. Others become his prime motive.
"The basic need of the creator is independence. The reasoning mind cannot work under any form of compulsion. It cannot be curbed, sacrificed or subordinated to any consideration whatsoever. It demands total independence in function and in motive. To a creator, all relations with men are secondary.
"The basic need of the second-hander is to secure his ties with men in order to be fed. He places relations first. He declares that man exists in order to serve others. He preaches altruism."- recursive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Nothing is given to man on earth. Everything he needs has to be produced."
I found some free berries growing by the side of the trail.
Furthermore, I have never in my life met someone who meets the definition of being a "creator". They would have to live off the land from a handbuilt hut without using any modern products. Recording artists are certainly "parasites" since they require the talent of recording and mastering engineers, marketing and promotion people, managers, etc etc.

I support the pirate bay, b/c i hate the RIAA and they're *****. I am more in support of indie music (which i pay for in full..and sometimes if i get it from the artist at a show.. i give a little extra), i'm more in support of a system where the RIAA as a middle man is gone. Same goes for the MPAA, b/c you know what? 90% of their films suck ass. The reason they cost so much is b/c of some whiney hollywood bitch actor thinks he's worth 90 million for a flick. Or b/c we need to do 1000 explosions b/c our movie has no substance, and make really lame jokes b/c the idiots of america fall for the comic relief gimmick everytime.. and better yet.. this is all in a remake or a sequel to a movie that should've been left alone.
Meanwhile, there's some really great indie films out there that have gotten the same amount of attention as the MPAA, and i happily go out and buy their dvd's. #1, b/c they're not absolute *****, and #2, b/c they're not affiliated with the MPAA.
So if my choice is between the RIAA/MPAA and the pirates? Guess what side i'm on?
People will always get ***** for free, no matter the technology. People used to pass down songs from generation to generation way before recorded data, people used pass around mixtapes and record songs off the radio, and make back ups of vhs cassettes. So what? the industry really didn't "hurt" then. and it's blaming it's fallen sales do to the smaller and smaller roster of complete disposable trash, all on Pirating? *****.
They declared war on their consumer base. I say, give them a war they won't forget.- RawIntellect, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea i somewhat agree with digduality views on things but watch how you talk about those idiot Americans I'm sure where alot better off then where your standing you don't like the movies but yet you continue to watch must not be that bad
ya dig

It really illustrates the fact that a lot of pro-piracy viewpoints are formed solely on the basis that the person wants to get ***** for free without having to pay for it. That's simple freeloading.
For the record I marked you up, cant begrudge a man his beliefs.
I think you are seeing two different sets of people, some people stand up for the right thing, others just say they do because they see some small gain.
Personally I could be seen on both sides of that fence.
Some of the things companies would try to get away with if you let them could be seen as human rights violations, and I cant back money over people.
And, I guess, I could be seen as a freeloader. But in my defense, i have spent a small fortune in the past on poor quality products, and i straight-out-refuse to be taken in again. Its not that i don't want to or cant pay, i have chosen to invest that same money into a higher download capacity.
This customer is always right.
If you want my money in the future you will provide free, full, no-spyware, no-adware product directly to me, with no strings attached. I will use this product as long as i see fit, and when i feel you have delivered an honorable and valuable service i will donate an amount of my choosing, or perhaps buy a shirt with your logo.
And you will say, Thank you.
Because if you do not, I will continue to give my money to free services, and eventually they will become more popular than you. - ckclark121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares? The only thing i'm interested in is how much they make from that "donate" link.
