NK Missile Warhead Found in Alaska By Ryu Jin Staff Reporter
The warhead of a long-range missile test-fired by North Korea was found in the U.S. state of Alaska, a report to the National Assembly revealed yesterday.

They don't expect us to "not notice". That's the whole point. Read the headlines ouside of digg. Pyongyang's been pretty public about the whole mess. - syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10They expect us to notice.

I dunno this dosen't look much better than the pics Colin Powell showed off at the UN when he was trying to convince everyone Iraq had WMDs and we all know how that turned out (unless you watch FOX)
I sincerly doubt NK is stupid enough to fire a missile at the US, since the US could easily 0wn them 2 times over in the time it takes for them to program the destination coordinates of a long range missile - tylerman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@andyshep

...and your point is? - ZamboniDriver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The image you see is static. It was taken on a cloudless day during the mid-day hours. Do you really think they'll launch when they know a satellite is overhead? on a cloudless, sunny day?
You make it seem like it's a no brainer, we can see this on a satellite image, we should be able to see it launch. Well, realtime satellite imagery is expensive. And it doesn't work so well in darkness. Night time, the heat bloom from a fire or an explosion could be used to "simulate" that of a rocket launch. The N. Koreans could use this to see what reaction the US and Japan have. - spider-man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I dunno this dosen't look much better than the pics Colin Powell showed off at the UN"

If only we could've. But because North Korea already had nuclear weapons, we couldn't--attacking a rogue state *after* they've acquired nukes is a bad idea. Thus, the rationale for a preemptive strike against Saddam--if we couldn't take down North Korea, we could at least prevent another dictator from acquiring the same power. - Allometry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@callmejordy265
I'm really troubled by your comment... It's obvious that you don't see North Korea as a threat, so, offer me the chance to change your mind.
If you are a liberal, you should be immediately inclined to think about the people living in North Korea. If you're educated, you'll know that living condition in N. Korea is the absolute worst. Food is very, very hard to come by.
If your on the other side of the political scale, then the people matter, but as a responsibility to our own people, safety is first... If N. Korea has a weapon that can hit a very populated part of the United States, oh say, Los Angeles, then we have to take the threat seriously.
If N. Korea launches an empty missile near a large American city, there will be hell to pay... I'm not usually confrontational, but in the case of N. Korea starting *****, as an American and as for my other American Brothers and Sisters, I won't be bullied around by some asshole who thinks he invented hamburgers.
Think what you will about the Iraq war, but those men and women stand for your rights and your safety. They'll even fight for it if you don't want it, because it's that important.
Take what's going on in N. Korea very seriously and get educated. You sound young and you should be concerned about having to fight for your country... Because just like a previous poster said, the Korean war never ended and the draft is still around. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7@TubaTechno,

Visit the capital city of each of the above. Find a police officer, and ask if you can speak to him for a few seconds. If he says yes, tell him that the leader of his country is an asshole.
In the US and Canada, the outcome will be that the police officer will either say "yes, he is" or "sir, I'm very busy, is there something else I can help you with?" Report back to us on what happens with the North Korean policeman. - TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Not every country is allowed the same rights based on their history and present intent and behavior.....its the same reason Iran shouldn't enrich uranium....

- syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22If you can't see the difference between the US, Canada, and North Korea, let me suggest the following exercise:
- MyNightwish, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8If highly doubt that N.Korea would go as far as to launch any missile of any kind
if they were to do so, on the USA for example, they would regret it, the USA has a right to defend itself
and other countries would condem what N.Korea did for doing so, so KIM would be no god to the N.Koreans anymore after- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Okay, well you're making some assumptions here.
One of the assumptions is that Iran gives a ***** if we retaliate. What if Kim just says "Bring it on, bitches" and doesn't care if he gets killed?
Another assumption is that he will launch this missle and it will be somehow shot down. It's possible, but it's more likely that if he shoots the thing that Hawaii or California it might hit and kill millions of people in the US. Sure, we'd blow them up to high hell, and all that. But millions would die and a lot of land would become immediately contaminated. This might be a good enough reason for a crazy man to do a crazy thing.
It's not black and white. People do dumb things. I don't trust that Kim Yjongill (or whatever the hell the spelling is) will make a rational descision. Do you want to put your lives and millions of others into the hands of a crazy man?
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Okay, well you're making some assumptions here.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's interesting that the missile defense program was "activated" today, along with massive wargames in the Pacific. I imagine that the US is preparing to blow this thing out of the sky if it is launched and strays too far away from N Korea.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It isn't a matter of straying too far. From the sounds of things, if it is fired, it will be shot down regardless. They have been warned.
- viclopez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They have already announced that the US Military will attempt to shoot it down. Think of it as a "test" on our missle defense system.

That missile is within striking distance in any part of Japan. I'm assuming they will try to shoot it down first. Or the Japanaese may just rely on Americans to take it down. Like the last time this happened in 1998 it depends where the missile is going. It could just be tested to some spot in the ocean, but probably farther than the first time.

- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Yes it is ok for U.S. to have them. U.S., along with other countries, have had the experience and the trust to have warheads, and know how and when and when NOT to use them accordingly. It has nothing to do with who has invaded most recently.
If you have two kids, one normal and one bat-***** crazy, and the normal one gets a slingshot that doesn't mean you should give the crazy kid one too. - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12No you moron. Because this nutcase is launching missles over Japan, where they have the potential to cause Japanese civilian, U.S. military casualties in Japan, and now the potential for Alaska (possibliy the West Coast of the U.S. mainland). Not to mention the potential to provoke the ROK.
No it's not okay for NK to have them. The Koreas are still technically at war. It's not in the interests of the ROK or the U.S. for Pyongyang to obtain the missle technology to mount one of their [potential] nukes onto a warhead. If they do, they can cause great instability in a region already with already strained relations. Then it becomes the interest of the world for them not to get this technology.
Iraq has nothing to do with this, please go spout your Bush-obsessed rhetoric on a more suited topic. - lostngone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4drinkGreen, are you saying the U.S. is trustworthy?

chris - LevLuthor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I am just curious, lets say n Korea did something crazy and did send the US a nuke on one of these. Do you think we would actually nuke them back? I am just not sure the US would or would be "allowed". So I thought I would get other people's opinion.
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, the strategy "an eye for an eye" does not bode well in nuclear war.
North Korea is not stupid enough to launch a nuke anyway, this is just a test ICBM. They're just flexing a little bit and saying "Hey, look at what I can do." - MOOCHY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If they did nuke the US, the result would be a parking lot for China to use. Of course the UN would throw a fit, but a country is allowed to defend itself. I think most Americans would agree if they lost a whole city to a nuke (i.e. LA, Seattle). IMHO I don't think that China would ever allow the little dictator to do that.
- jwoelich, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Would we retaliate with a nuke? Probably not, to be honest. Like what was mentioned earlier, NK is working with tech that is about 60+ years behind that of the US. It would be a trivial matter to knock it out of the sky. So it would be more likely that the US would bomb them back to the stone age with conventional weapons.
- SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Let me get this straight ...if North Korea launch a nuclear missle, you think the United States is not allow to retaliate and launch a nuclear missle back at them? Why don't you do us a favor and check yourself in a nut house.
- elephantdog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1China, Japan and South Korea wouldn't like that- but the USA wouldn't give a *****. So unless everyone in the region was nice and calm, accepting a bitch slap from the USA, WW3 would likely start.
- jwoelich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"They're just flexing a little bit and saying "Hey, look at what I can do.""
Like Stuart on MadTV?
"China, Japan and South Korea wouldn't like that- but the USA wouldn't give a *****. So unless everyone in the region was nice and calm, accepting a bitch slap from the USA, WW3 would likely start."
That's another reason why we wouldn't use a nuke. For a country that small, it would effect too many surrounding innocent regions. Much better to just go the conventional route. - Specks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Look we could fathom all day as to what would happen if he did send a nuke our way. If it did, well the U.S. would have the right to respond in equal fashion. Would we do that? Depends on the target that got hit. S. Korea would get hurt in the process, there's no way around that since Pajama Boy always has missiles threatening them to try and deter the U.S. from doing anything.
He'll make a big stink if we use our missile defense system to shoot it down, but I don't think he'll be stupid enough to start anything. - anon52, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2So which "independent" news gathering agency do we rely on to verify that the NK have launched a missile (nuke or not), and that the friendlies have responded appropriately? Unless someone other than the USA has really good coverage, we'll just need to rely on the US-supplied media outlets. And we know how well they have served us during our mid-east oil grab.
Come on all you eye-for-an-eye folks. You are being fed a bunch of psy-ops and there is nowhere (especially not Fox) to get a balanced view. In the end, you'll just bleat another round of "we didn't know". - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0We would not have to use nukes. If that missile so much as grazes our coast NK will be neutered before the sunset of the next day. We have a conventional arsenal that could surgically remove anything important.
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, the strategy "an eye for an eye" does not bode well in nuclear war.

Charles P. Vick is even working for GlobalSecurity.org ffs!
Can it get more clear that you are being scammed?!
If not, I have a really nice bridge to sell you, really cheap too.- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6screw the damn photos. I couldn't care less about a photo or a satellite image.
we KNOW that Korea is planning to launch a test warhead. case closed. - SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1disguise
n.
1. Appearance that misrepresents the true character of something: a blessing in disguise.
2. A pretense or misrepresentation: His repeated references to his dangerous hobbies were only a disguise to cover up his insecurity. - star, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"we KNOW that Korea is planning to launch a test warhead. case closed."
Hahaha...ok, you KNOW that! lmao...
I bet you also KNEW that Saddam had "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that could be launched at the USA any time now! - tomokatsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't know about other people, but I couldn't care less about what their missile launch center looks like... What matters is that it can fire missiles! Are you trying to deny that N. Korea is threatening to fire "test" missiles? The damn photos don't even matter... (although, I still think the sketch does look like a rocket launch... it has no runway to be a airstrip.)
- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@stardumbass
When other countries are reporting on it, not just the US, and Korea THEMSELVES verify it, then yes I KNOW.
sweet lord, I'm getting tired of the HateBush trendies. If you don't like him fine, but this is serious news. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@star:
Take a look at the google map someone posted above... the longes straight, clear piece of dirt there is about 250ft long. That is one hell of a short "runway". This looks nothing like an airbase. - star, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"drinkGreen" keeps going; "When other countries are reporting on it, not just the US, and Korea THEMSELVES verify it, then yes I KNOW."
Everyone can report anything, what matters if it is true or not true.
The next word we will learn today is the word propaganda:
propaganda
n.
1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause.
2. Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda.
"tomokatsu" asks; "Are you trying to deny that N. Korea is threatening to fire "test" missiles?"
Of course I do, as is any critically thinking human being.
North Korea has been trying to develop an oil-independent energy grid for years
but every time it has started on a project the US has intervened and stopped it.
It's fantastic how little propaganda it takes nowadays to make people believe
the most fantastic stories thanks to a little racist propaganda brainwashing
by the film industry, the media and a corrupt government.
Educate yourself people, you are making yourself look like ignorant rednecks.

Now, back to current fun and games with North Korea...
How much did you know about Rumsfeld's (yup, that's scumbag Rumsfeld)
involvement in this whole affair?
I'll give you a little hint to make your starting point a bit smoother...
2000: Rumsfeld was a director of a company which wins $200m contract to sell nuclear reactors to North Korea
2002: Rumsfeld declares North Korea a terrorist state, part of the axis of evil and a target for regime change
The two faces of Rumsfeld
http://www.guardian.co.uk/korea/article/0,2763,952289,00.html#article_continue
Rumsfeld was on ABB board during deal with North Korea
http://www.swissinfo.org/eng/swissinfo.html?siteSect=105&sid=1648385
The promise was that the US should help North Korea to build "light water reactors"
that would power the country if North Korea promised not to build it's own nuclear
reactors.
The problem: US never held it's promise (surprise?). And when the winter in 2002 was closing in
and threatened to kill thousands of people, North Korea said *fsck it!* we need
energy NOW and we'll build our own reactors instead of waiting for reactors that
probably never will come (which of course was right).
Perfect! Now the Bush administration had the excuse they wanted and could say "Look! They are building nuclear powerplants even though they said they wouldn't(sic)."
Remember how the US blocked all oil-ships going to Japan in the 40's so that
Japan would have to take miltary action against the US?
Same trick different country. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Right, so the satellite photo you completely ignored is.... Kim Jong's spa for starving children and nuns?
- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@star
A word/phrase/title you need to add to your dictionary is Conspiracy Theorist. Someone could bring the damn warhead to your house and have you sign your name on it and you would still be like "It could be a life-size plastic shell, painted to look like a warhead, just to trick us. Oh you sneaky US government. I'm onto you!"
You want some more information that I KNOW? I KNOW that even before this war and before Bush, this whole planet looked at the world's problems, and blamed US. US has money, why don't they help. US has weapons, why don't they kill our enemies. US is the 3rd largest country, why can't they take the people we don't want?
The world thought of us as a police state, so we pretty much became one. And of course, everybody hates the police until they need them.
- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6screw the damn photos. I couldn't care less about a photo or a satellite image.
- nyccharlie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Kim Jong Il: Now you see, the changing of the worrd is inevitabre!
Lisa: I'm sorry, it's what?
Kim Jong Il: Inevit, inevitabre.
Lisa: One more time.
Kim Jong Il: [shouts] Inevitebre! Jesus Christ, open your ***** ears!- Zethris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1America! ***** Yeah!
- Specks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@aviazn
N. Korea claims to have nukes. Since he doesn't follow the rules everyone else does he wont have any problems with above ground tests to prove that he has them. So far he hasn't done so. So all it is is posturing at the moment.
Anyone want to take a guess when Pajama Boy is going to launch his toy and aggravate everyone? He's going to do it since the only way to dismantle the thing after fueling it up is to either launch it in to the ocean or blow it up. - btljuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*Dr. Evil voice* Why don't we just do what we always do... hijack some nuclear missiles and hold the world hostage, mm?
- percyhanna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Maybe they should just take out the axcess road...
- Specks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You forget that Kim Jong-il will see that as an excuse to send a lot of missiles south. Best thing to do is to let him launch it, shoot it down and watch him cry.
- Philoushka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2just make sure you type in the numbers correctly, followed by the Execute button.

first one posted was dated 03-04-2003
the second one posted from americanfreepress dates august 2004
from my guess its just a bunch of ***** until they show hard evidence..or some more credible news sources
Korean times I willnot trust just like I won't trust fox news
At best they flew over there or by boat and placed the "warhead" on the ground hoping we would find it - Dotnetsky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Long Dong long no more. Chop it!
- DanVersion1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is alot of inaccuracies being posted here.
First off, it hasnt been verified that a warhead has been attached to this missle. As far as we know it is only a test of the missle itself.
Second, the only American-controlled land mass that it is capable of hitting is Alaska and Guam.
I am personally tired of this crap. Whether or not North Korea is launching an attack or simply testing missle technology, it is being done against treaties and is being held over us as a threat if we do not drop sanctions on them.
Tolerance isnt the answer.- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0According to a few things I have seen, if it lives up to its maximum it could hit DC.
- t35t0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1destroy two of our buildings and we wil invade two of your countries and take all of your oil. Nuke us and we will make sure that your lands become uninhabitable for the next 10,000 years.
- Rocksteady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1-5 diggs for stating an opinion?!? C'mon diggers..this is what digg.com is all about!
You may not agree, but that's you. That's why we're different. Man alive lighten up people.
