Is democracy obsolete?
edge.org — Democracy, our least bad system of government, is on its way out. Can we invent a better new system? Perhaps. But today's political correctness does not allow one to say "There may be a political system which is better than Democracy". The result of this prohibition will be an inevitable return to some kind of totalitarian rule.

The best system is a Republic, but unfortunately here in the U.S. people forget that's what we're supposed to be. We're not a strict democracy. When you're a strict democracy, you'll fall apart when the citizenry are uneducated. You need educated people if you want them leading the entire country. And as we see in the U.S., our political system is becoming more of an opposition game (tearing down the other party) instead of building up the country. It's all because of a lack of education. It's that simple. When you have uneducated people, they resort to very selfish things ("give me money for doing nothing!"), and soon the system cannot support itself.
It's sad, because if you actually take the time to read the U.S. Consititution, it's a beautiful and intelligent plan. But it takes an educated and moral populace. And here in the U.S. we are increasingly uneducated and immoral. - aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Big ups to stealthboy. More or less what I was going to say.
