BUSTED!!!
xtragoogle.com — One year and over 50 billion searches later, Google has "asked" Xtragoogle to find a new name. This comes after a long roller coaster PR ride, landing Xtragoogle all way down to a PR5 rating. At least the site is not gone for good! Read the letter here.
- 210 diggs
- digg it
- Quozt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0looks like a nice site
- max1fried, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0xtragoogle has been my start page for months now. i think google was better off letting them use that name. before now there were only searches within google, now we can search msn, yahoo, digg, etc. Oh well, better for us, whoooa!!!
- unreal32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can a web site submit itself to digg? Isn't it just a form of self-promotion?
- realbones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Who cares who submited it, it is a good site and people are digging it. Besides, at least they are not using a fake name to submit like a lot of people do.
- MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, that name is pretty gay sounding. I'd feel weird typing "Hot Daddy" into my browser . . .
- imagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0so is Go Daddy going to come after them now?
- mikef98765, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hotmail/go daddy? wow, talk about leeching off of other peoples fame.
- mordea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I'm glad Google (the 'Search Engine') emphasized how renowned they are several times.
- jta827, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These guys can't think of an original name?
- celeronxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'd be nice if they preloaded the rollover images so there wasn't just a blank white space while you hovered over them.
And yeah, crappy name. - JakeMcMahon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm surprised that hotdaddy.com wasn't taken by a gay porn site
- chrisc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"But, your honor, it's not Xtra Google, it's X Tragoog LE!"
- f00xx0riz3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahahaha! ***** alert detected! Why would google mess around with pagerank for a competitior. They'd just drop them straight away. Sucky service, no inlinks => low pr.
- Export, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah this is spam outright, reported.
- davester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotdaddy does some soft, but there is also Mama.com. Read the letter - came out too strong and arrogant. While I still will use Google, they've just taken another step to the Microsoft side of the world.
- JW00000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, this user digged three stories, all linking to their site...
Spam - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NC = No Class. When I previously ran this site I thought is was a google product at first. Leeching is dishonest, bad business.
Google did the right thing protecting their trademark, if they didn't then every other trademark infringement case in the future would be jeopardized.
Well done Google! - socket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares?
- JimNtexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm 100% certain that Go Daddy will go after Hot Daddy within a matter of days.
I hope they are looking for a third choice. - xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0crappy web site. Why did we dig this?
- guardian653, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wtf?
- tituskashmarek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i shudder just saying Hot Daddy
- tysonhy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good Letter
- Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm going to make website called SlashPress that puts all the functions of Digg into one, slow to load, image bloated page.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reported as spam. Besides, Google is everything you need. Lame-o.
- RandomChu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why would google mess around with pagerank for a competitior."
Well, aren't the services Hot Daddy provides actually just Google services but with their ads? Let Google do what they want to those freaks. >:( - gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh. Google keeps browsing free from unnecessary US *****. They should've been busted. Dugg for hilarious, similarly-lame Hotdaddy though.
On a side note, http://xtragoogle.com.nyud.net:8080/ gave me a 500 Internal Server Error. Coral Cache could use some Coral Cache I guess. - Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google should be paying the guy who invented the word googleplex some fee for using the name.
- Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The word is "googolplex."
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Google should be paying the guy who invented the word googleplex some fee for using the name."
Or the guy who invented GOOG_OL_PLEX for that matter. Goog_le_plex is Google's campus, no? - stoavio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is all very lame. Horrible site and horrible name.
- Bonobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GOOGLE GOOGLE GOOGLE OOGLE
blah blah blah!! - rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could Digg have a program to actually catch that the posters username and the three subjects of the posters diggs are THE EXACT SAME NAME!
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Burn in the firey bowls of hell Xtra google
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Meh. Google keeps browsing free from unnecessary US *****. They should've been busted. Dugg for hilarious, similarly-lame Hotdaddy though."
Let me correct that, since rudolphdude caught his username:
"Meh. Google keeps browsing free from unnecessary US *****. YOU should've been busted. Dugg for hilarious, similarly-lame Hotdaddy though." - Lite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha owned
- XxN3RDC0R3xX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*sigh*
It's too bad the internet is like this. For shame, Google, for shame. - Kestral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hear "Goatse" is available.
- theundone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Like everyone else says, the name sounds completely gay. Google will find anything and everything you want and hotdaddy (so gay) is just cluttered. It's not hard to use Google's search operators "site:", "filetype:", "inurl:", etc. to find what you want.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"submitted by xtragoogle"
Wow, doesn't even attempt to hide the stealth marketing aspect of submitting this story. - patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kudos to XtraGoogle. "Hot Daddy"? ***** awesome!
- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So am I missing something? Or is it just google... but with unneeded crap added to it?
