A Preview of Zooomr -- Photo Sharing That Speaks Your Language
dystopics.dump.be — Zooomr is a new photo sharing service that just went out of private beta with lots of different localizations. Here's a pretty good preview I found floating around. Go check it out for yourselves.

- ipagos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's so crazy, it just might work. i think
- coyforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kinda cool, but very little content as of yet
- Steveiepoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very Cool. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress!
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought Flickr spoke English too?
j/k - skinnytie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fast as hell... Seriously cool.
- metallica159, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0THIS REALLY WILL WORK THIS CREATOR IS THE BEST
- zephyrsyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0haha, what? :)
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's slower than molasses and nothing but a poorly-done flickr.
- sipsipi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why can't these new sites use an "e" before the "r"?
Is that because AJAX can't handle correct spellings? or should I say "spllngs"? - theOnlyChick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy crud, antigravity BEAM, that sounds like the isaac asimov story about the two rival physicists
- zephyrsyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah Stark, but it IS being dugg. :-)
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Like Flickr but slowr and not as good, am I missing some cool functionality or something?
- djoek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0esteban, it's still in beta, and it's much less bloated than flickr. it's only slow right now because of the digg hordes
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ERRR, no thanks....i dont see any problem with FLICKR....and that ZOOOMR thing is like.....boring.
- zephyrsyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is some cool ***** on here, actually. You can add sounds to images, for example. Makes it feel like a museum piece or something... And it has google maps geo-tagging integration, which is pretty sweet. Needs a slideshow feature though.
- johnnybluejeans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love how everyone thinks this is faster than flickr. One, flickr is pretty damn snappy for interactive the site is -- and secondly, flickr probably gets somewhere on the order of 100 times more traffic.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish you guys luck, but team Flickr, even in their early Beta stages had this all sewn up. I love that you are supporting distributed login IDs and cool stuff like that, but there is a heap of work to be done on the general UI and flow. The Flickr chaps really excelled in the UI department.
- cdunn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I dont get it...
its a *****, poorly designed flickr. (and way too much of a rip if you ask me)
not original, boring, tons of css errors, slow. --digg - Milo_Hoffman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1
Its sooo damn SLOOOW!
Site sux. - aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's alright but i prefer shutterbook.
- findyourownpath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But can Flickr do this? http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/kris_tate/1092/near-by
- jugaaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its still beta, but its cool.
- jasdev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0flickr as far as apps go is really good already, i see very little reason to switch. i like the geotagging and voice feature, but for consumers like us competition could just make things better for either side. no digg
- findyourownpath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>"i see very little reason to switch. "
The biggest reason Zooomr exists is that there are a vast amount of people who do not speak English. At the bottom of every page, there is a localize link that allows anyone to change to their native language to one of (now) 12 other locales. That, in and of itself, is big. - latca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm gonna stick with Flickr. Nothing significant different for me to switch.
- RickySan65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So.. they got English UK/ English US, but not Dutch (NL) or Dutch (BE) that sucks
- atariby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If flickr put voice comments on there site, it would destroy zooomr
just seems like a clone with a couple extra things that most people wouldnt need - djoek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RickySans, it's in there, if your browser sends nl_BE out as locale. automagically!
it's just not linked (yet)
it works here - ipoddj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ RickySan 'How do you mean no NL, i'm getting text in Dutch as well'
- kelyar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so its just a badly localized (cant find Russian although) stripped version of flickr?
no,thanks - zephyrsyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/thaumata/1192
- iliadis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0those R are way too much around after the succes of flickr !
+1 - deathguppie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg cause the first screenshot on the blog is of Gas Works park in Seattle, just up the road from me.
- RoboPimp3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why is everybody allergic to the letter E?
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Competition is always good. Digg/Dugg just for that.
- datter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am not putting my gmail account and password information into that thing.
- Coreguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh no..I spent near 30 mins in uploading a 638K photo.
- niceguy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i liked the geotagging thing, good luck with your site.
speaking about geotagging, fotki.com has it too. and it also has a HUGE photosharing community (almost 1M ppl).
and upload is fast. - blankoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I'm going to be sure to sign into their site with my gmail username and password....ugh!
Anyone else want to throw up a site with a form to collect people's usernames and passwords? - findyourownpath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Blankoboy, if you do not want to enter your Google Account, by all means create an OpenID account with myopenid.com and use it on Zooomr.
