- theandy1, on 03/29/2008, -2/+26Dugg, I love hockey. The NHL's decline in the U.S. is due to ESPN being too cheap to pick it up and getting out-bidded by versus. Yeah nobody even knows which channel versus is which is why ESPN had no excuse. I really don't feel like it's necessary for ESPN to have two channels anymore... who the ***** watches women's college softball (just an example of the majority of ***** it has on). ESPN now tries to diss hockey as much as possible and might show a minutes worth of highlights if no other sport was played that day. I wish versus would just use the hockey night in canada feeds. HNIC has much better analysts and commentators. I hate getting robbed out of watching coaches corner every week just because I don't have center ice.
- replaysMike, on 03/29/2008, -5/+24I'm going to Digg this up just cause I'm Canadian.
- rendereduseless, on 03/29/2008, -3/+19***** you
- thatsmyaibo, on 03/29/2008, -3/+12Hi I'm a King's fan...I suffer from depression.
- AtiimKiambu, on 03/29/2008, -0/+8I used to get really angry about the fact that hockey doesn't get the attention that it deserves. Now I realize how awesome it is to be a fan of a sport that only a select few also follow.
I love the fact that almost all hockey fans are die-hard. I get sick and tired of seeing "Yankee fans" or "Patriots fans" who know nothing about their teams, or even the sports they play. When someone says they love the Islanders, the Lightning, or the Oilers, you know that you can have an engaging, intelligent conversation with them.
I love the fact that hockey isn't on ESPN. I don't have to suffer the indignity of having Skip Bayless or Jim Rome desecrate the sport with their inane drivel.
I love the fact that when I go to a bar to watch a hockey game, I have a much deeper connection with the other guys (and girls) there, because of the smaller and more intimate hockey fanbase.
The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to find games on TV, but I can change that by getting satellite or digital cable. - stevens8204cw, on 03/29/2008, -1/+9I will go regardless even if it means going a little less. It is why I got NHL Center Ice and also going 6-8 times a year has helped immensely...and it may also help me get a press pass for Ducks games next season.
- evanmyers, on 03/29/2008, -0/+8You CAN'T leave this one out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDbEX666G3Y
- realityparadox, on 03/29/2008, -0/+8McCabe is an overpaid tool, and Downie is a spoiled psychopath who has no place in the NHL, but otherwise, these are all good reasons why more people should watch hockey.
Go Flames Go! - janoo1989, on 03/29/2008, -4/+11I'll start watching when I see the Flying V in action
- vinnyvenus, on 03/29/2008, -1/+7If NHL was properly managed league in old days it had a possibility to take over NBA in terms of popularity . When NHL decided to go pay-per-view route back in the days it just lost a whole generation viewers which are now harder to gain back.
- eadnams, on 03/29/2008, -1/+7Fastest mainstream sport out there (besides racing)...
- Rev0lver, on 03/29/2008, -0/+6Hockey owns both of your asses. Easily one of the toughest sports ever. Football can't hold a candle to it - 20 games a season? pffft. Try 82 regular season games over the course of 7-8 months.
- eadnams, on 03/29/2008, -0/+5You make it sound like they fight all the time, theres maybe one or two a game, and the finesse is there, just watch the western teams play...
Fights aren't 'allowed' they're penalized like all the other things that aren't allowed in the game, and equally. Multiple game suspensions would be overkill for something as trivial as a hockey fight.
The game is fast, faster than anything else I've seen.
I don't see how fighting effects hockey's success, I think an argument can be made for more fighting to better capture the US markets, they love violence on TV, hate nudity ( compared to the BBC for example,, hate violence on TV, less problems with nudity). - skeetshot, on 03/29/2008, -0/+5 I instantly smile when I hear the theme song to Hockey Night In Canada. Should be our national anthem.
- fussbucket, on 03/29/2008, -0/+5Skip Bayless on 1st and 10. Biggest DB on the network. Disses hockey every chance he gets. Refuses to even call it a sport. If you love hockey, you'll blood will boil watching this idiot.
- ridestp, on 03/29/2008, -3/+7Oh my God! That's the coolest ***** story I've ever heard in my life! Can you tell it again, do you have time?
- adtthosa, on 03/29/2008, -0/+4Dugg because hockey is the best sport ever, hands down.
- mrhedges, on 03/29/2008, -1/+5Golfing?
- eadnams, on 03/29/2008, -0/+4When the Oilers are on their game, they're amazing to watch... just so sad when they aren't... which is most of the time.
- eadnams, on 03/29/2008, -0/+4Checking is part of the game, hitting someone correctly is a finesse unto itself.
I see your argument about fighting, good points. - El-Taco, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3GO SHARKS!!!!!!!!
- Rev0lver, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3The hockey fan base cares. It really, really does.
- davidrools, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3also 11 reasons why youtube needs HD

- marcus1060, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3Baseball, 1% hitting, 99% men in tight pants streching and looking around chewing gum.
Basketball, 1% throwing and jumping, 99% men in shorts waving their arms in the air.
Football, 1% throwing and running, 94% fat men hugging each other, 5% showboating and other poor sportsmen ship.
Hockey, 5% goals, 25% shots, 20% saves, 20% hits, 1% fighting, 4% cycling along the boards (if it is the Sedin twins). - alucinante, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2best team going right now.
- strategy, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Of all the insults I've heard as a hockey fan, I think I most often hear "no one likes hockey." Awesome, let me know when you have a meaningful observation. There are plenty of real problems with hockey (terrible commissioner, poor franchise placement, etc.) but most hockey-haters are completely ignorant of them. The product is amazing... the marketing department is just severely lacking.
- jdhammer, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2No you didn't.
- slickbananapete, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2It's a good list, but it's clearly done by someone who doesn't like Sid the Kid (he sort of says so himself). I think the Winter Classic should've definitely been on that list, but it was an all Crosby show...
- Jeffler, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2RICK Nash.
- Jeffler, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Binghamton has the Senators now, which are honestly better than the Rangers ever were.
- eadnams, on 03/29/2008, -2/+4Basketball is slow by comparison.
- sheldonnbbaker, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Another good one - guy who the puck bounced on eventually retired 'cause of it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RCWpE_cqnuU
- marcus1060, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Give it an honest chance, then try and come back and say that.
- davidrools, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Hockey is cheap compared to football and basketball. Even in a big city like San Jose you can get in the door for $18.
- djlaunchpad, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Dugg from an Ex Hockey player, Left or Right Wing & Enforcer. Still a fan of the old teams ie.. Go NORTH Stars.
- bunkka, on 03/29/2008, -1/+2Me too, but I still love them!
- holyreality, on 03/29/2008, -4/+5I played varsity in high school, definitely wish more games were televised on the standard channels.
- shauncullen, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Oops, looks like it was just a bug. I double checked AFTER posting. I guess the mere thought of that pissed me off so I didn't think to double check. Now who looks stupid. Sorry.
- Lawr, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I believe that designation should be given to the Maple Leafs?
GO LEAFS GO - KrazyKoala, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Malkin has been awesome...but you can't say he outplayed Crosby. Crosby had the most points in the NHL, and since has been injured...(though he just came back). Obviously Ovechkin, Malkin and many other were bound to surpass him. To just "own" the reigning scoring/Heat trophy champion is a bit presumptuous.
- jforjools, on 03/29/2008, -3/+4I loved the quick Bobby Orr flashback in the contest with Darwin Head.
Great flashback to childhood, for me! - colorblind13, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1If only I could digg you up more than once
- skeetshot, on 03/29/2008, -1/+2so close to digging you down, then I saw the Flames cheer. Hope to see you at the dome on Saturday when we destroy the Oilers
- LStone, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I was at the dome on tuesday when we coffined the Canucks. I wish I could get tickets to saturdays game. Hell I wish I could get playoff tickets.... or season tickets.
- Chebsi, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1What is 'cowbell'?
- adtthosa, on 03/29/2008, -2/+2YES.
- woofers07, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1This is awesome, I totally agree with everyth..... wait this isn't foxy boxing.
- Zera, on 03/29/2008, -2/+2But when two morons beat each others brains out they both get sent to the box, so that's not a punishment out on the ice, because the other team also lost a guy, plus, losing your goon isn't that much of a loss. The idea you have a guy on the ice with no real skill and just to "enforce" the rules that don't exist about being overly rough to each teams forwards is ridiculous. I know the finesse is there, it just needs to be emphasized above checking, and as soon as that happens you get a much more compelling game.
The game is fast, but a bigger rink like in the Olympics makes it much faster. Basketball is popular and has 3 fights per year. As I said, watching amateur boxers only draws a tiny crowd. - shauncullen, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1Looks like the NHL went on a mass banning rampage: all of the videos are no longer available. What a useless and stupid thing to do. Instead of allowing the sport to get massive exposure on YouTube, they remove the videos and deprive people getting a look at some of the amazing plays from the dynamic and exciting sport. ***** copyright, do the smart thing and allow people to see your game.
