- powerslave71, on 04/20/2009, -6/+104Why the ***** would you even bring that up. Hockey players are men, not baseball players.
- mhollerb, on 04/19/2009, -13/+70Because being the biggest, strongest, Ogrish player is un-necessary in todays hockey. That helps in football, sure, where strength is paramount to skill, but not in hockey. You need to be strong, on and off the puck, but theres a reason players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Malkin, and Crosby are more valuable than anyone else. Fast and agile. Steroids only hinder that.
- larrimer7, on 04/20/2009, -4/+47Anybody who doesnt like hockey should go watch a ***** game.
- NickPlatypus, on 04/20/2009, -0/+18and so does shaving :)
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -8/+24Hockey players are the toughest....work to get where they are dont have time for that ... they don't need steroids. and it should stay that way
- fudsak, on 04/20/2009, -2/+17they also result in RANDOM OUTBURSTS OF RAGE
- Gibletoid, on 04/20/2009, -1/+13Not even steroids could help the Habs this season.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -4/+16So leaner, stronger, quicker, legs wouldnt be beneficial?
- sgglynn, on 04/20/2009, -2/+13Who cares? If professional athletes want to harm their bodies to play better, then let them. We don't drug test the people we trust to run this country, or the people who run our countries biggest companies, or actors and actresses who star in movies, yet we should drug test anyone who wants to play a professional sport?
- hakkola, on 04/20/2009, -1/+12You're.
Normally I wouldn't say anything, but because you did it so many times I have to. - MrZop, on 04/20/2009, -3/+12steroids wont give you a better view of the ice, make better plays, have a more accurate shot or pass, be a better skater, win more face-offs, etc.
Steroids have little advantage to NHL players. They require to many other skills/disciplines that roids simply cannot help, and may even hinder some of them.
I'm sure some big goons may benefit, but not star athletes. no skilled player would need or use roids in hockey. - bigbadgoat, on 04/20/2009, -2/+11No, they impede agility.
There's a difference between sprinting, all out, full speed, and manueuvering around players, performing dekes, and stopping on a dime.
Steroids are pretty much useless in hockey. - HappyScrappy, on 04/20/2009, -1/+9Hockey is my favorite sport.
There's no way hockey is clean. Maybe it's the cleanest pro sport, I dunno. But I can't imagine how it could be completely clean. Players are concerned about losing their jobs in hockey just like in every other sport.
On another note, I'm glad to see the Columbus Dispatch write this article. It's great to see hockey taking root in Ohio. I was in Ohio last week and all my relatives thought I was weird for liking hockey. And they all live less than 100 miles from Columbus. I told them they not only had a team in Ohio, but they would be in the playoffs. They didn't seem to care. - ZimbuTheMonkey, on 04/20/2009, -1/+8You know that steroids just basically decrease recovery time right?
So a person that takes anabolic steroids does not magically become bulkier and musclebound. If they eat to gain mass, then they will do it faster than an athlete that is not juicing. If you don't eat, you don't grow. - artfiend77, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6I wished the Habs took some steroids right about now :'(
- Schmidtopolis, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6Why?
- AlJensen, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6I don't like the wording on number two.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6People who don't know the difference between "your" and "you're" should die.
- antime1, on 04/20/2009, -3/+9Also, you telling me that a hockey player wouldn't JUMP THE ***** ON STEROIDS if he could and not get caught like this?
Steroids help you recover from aches and pains. And I assure you, playoff hockey BACK TO BACK GAMES = Aches and ***** pains. - Mistlefoot, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6Steroids help with recovery time. During the playoffs - an injury that last 2 weeks might mean the team does not make it past that round. A steroid that could heal that in half the time would have an important player back sooner. While a steroid to help you gain 20 pounds of bulk wouldn't like be in high demand in the NHL, that does not mean that Steroids would not be beneficial come playoff time.
That being said, I do not think steroids are a problem in the NHL. - Nitrouz, on 04/19/2009, -1/+6seriously? did not know that!
- MyNameIsJoe, on 04/20/2009, -9/+14Yeah, steroids slow you down. That's why olympic sprinters never take steroids.
Oh wait... - ZimbuTheMonkey, on 04/20/2009, -0/+513. You know that I did not spell it "your" as a test.
- MetaCal, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5http://www.wikihow.com/Use-You%27re-and-Your
- mrhedges, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5Oh yey, another retard who doesn't even read the article. The same person who submitted this story also submitted the clever Bruins ad. Not all fans are douchebags who can't appreciate other teams.
- TM22, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5Could not have said it any better.
- brownsound00, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5No. You may be able to squat more, but your cardio isn't going to increase unless you take Epo or blood dope.
- BluesFan, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6No sport is absolutely clean but I would bet Hockey is amongst the cleanest.
- Physicalia, on 04/20/2009, -5/+9the person that submitted this story is pissed because the bruins are kicking the canadiens collective asses
- shaunlow, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4that's enough time to get ripped off of roids
- blitz718, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4apples and oranges friend. Steroids is not used for endurance, that usually falls under blood doping (see cycling)
- JakeBC, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4Mine too. Neck's getting itchy though.
- Ineedmorelemons, on 04/19/2009, -1/+4Mmmm....steroids.
- dexter411, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2His inability to grow a beard doesn't preclude him from getting around Dion Phaneuf...
- teethandeyes, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2No testing once the playoffs start?
Wouldn't smoking some PCP be VERY beneficial for a hockey player? - MrZop, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3Do you think crosby, ovie, Gretzky or the like would be able to pull off the moves they do if they had another 30lbs of muscle slowing them down? do you think they would have the same level of endurance considering they're muscles would need far more oxygen then they would normally?
Muscle is good for grinders, but you still have to be able to play the game. and steroids wont give you those skills. so i don't see them making guys better hockey plays. tougher and stronger, yes. but not better hockey players. - hakkola, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3Word. I doubt steroid use is as rampant in hockey, that said, I wouldn't mind if all the players were taking them if it meant even faster, better players.
The only time I ever watched baseball was during the steroid assisted home run record races a few years back. - nepidae, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2"NHL's policy among best in pro sports"
FTFY - larrimer7, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Ok.
- darcyp, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Anyone who has played or knows someone who has played a decent level of hockey (CHL, AHL) knows that steroids just aren't part of the game.
- texodore, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2The league doesn't want to get in the way of any playoff beard growth hormones.
- BluesFan, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3You Son of a Bitch!
- mrremy, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3Hockey players would never use steroids. If they only made a steroid that could be used for people like sprinters or horses in races that would increase strength without the weight gain, increase vascularity, and eliminate water bloat due to estrogen conversion
Stanozolol depot (or Stanozolol for non-pinning persons) might shed some light... - Brak710101, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2...To a skilled and talented player?
- Shawkab, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3There is none because it is pointless,
Hockey is not known for that kind of stuff because things like Steroids only hurt them more then help them. Baseball they use it for their swing.. Endurance is no where near as important in Baseball as it is in Hockey. Take Steroids = No ice time. - jman583, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Can you say cocaine?
- ilmickeyli, on 04/20/2009, -3/+5Haha.. Another Blue-Jackets fan being a homer. Can't take the heat?
- larrimer7, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2...to what?
- chesterogilvie, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I don't know how steroids affect athletes mentally but it's a myth that taking steroids equals massive muscle growth and loss of agility. There are numerous types of steroids that serve different purposes, and there are also other performance enhancers like HGH. There are athletes in all sports that use steroids or other performance enhancers, hockey isn't magically immune to this fact.
- teethandeyes, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1PCP would be a goon's best friend.
