- AdamaObama, on 03/26/2009, -17/+77Hockey FTW!
This is one of the many reasons why hockey is a superior sport to basketball (and pretty much any other sport for that matter). - zanarkan, on 03/26/2009, -1/+47Roy vs Osgood is still and will remain #1 for a long time!!
- Jeffler, on 03/26/2009, -2/+33It takes a special kind of headcase to be a goalie - and by special, I mean you have to draft him before he gets put in a mental institution
- bruins72, on 03/26/2009, -2/+30This was almost the "Top 10 Emery Gone Wild Moments Of All Time"
- Morphinity, on 03/26/2009, -1/+26Can't believe Cloutier vs. Salo isn't there.

- briLo, on 03/26/2009, -1/+19If you ever played hockey you know one thing........GOALIES ARE CRAZY *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- xAPx, on 03/26/2009, -1/+17Ron Hextall FTW!
- malfunktion, on 03/26/2009, -2/+18As soon as I saw this submission, first thought that came into my head was the Potvin/Hextall fight. One of the best (goalie) fights I've ever seen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnJqCZDcex0 (full fight)
...*sigh*... I miss the old Leafs. - trapper2530, on 03/26/2009, -1/+17Goalie fights are like the mythical creature of the NHL, you always hear about people with a brother or friend who was at a game when one happened but you yourself never have caught a glimpse of the crazy beast
- evilregis, on 03/26/2009, -1/+16Hockey is so ***** bad ass. Airborne goalie FTW.
- Jeffler, on 03/26/2009, -2/+16Sportscenter sucks, and doesn't show hockey most of the time.
Sportscentre, on the other hand, is the sports show of the gods. - darcyp, on 03/26/2009, -3/+16I was surprised Jamie McLennan wasn't on the list.

He was only in the game about 15 seconds. - RoroCo, on 03/26/2009, -1/+11That is true for modern day goalies... But back when they didn't even wear Michael Myers-type goalie face masks... You were better off plucking them directly from the institution. Those guys were crazy.
- Crazyredivan, on 03/26/2009, -3/+12God I miss Hextall...and I love Marty Biron. It's a proud day for a Flyers fan when 3 goalies make this list...
- Nightfall, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7Roy vrs Vernon in 1997 should have made the list as well.
- jotchie, on 03/26/2009, -2/+9Yeah like how entertaining basketball is when the whistle blows every 4 seconds because someone farts on another.
- bmcnally, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7No Vernon-Roy fight?
Especially since that was another brawl, when McCarthy paid back Lemieux. - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6No. Because we can read. You're ***** dumb - hate to break it to you.
- YME1280, on 03/26/2009, -3/+9Dugg for homepaging with 30-Something diggs!
- vegx, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7Hockey is like a non-boring version of soccer.
- Shakermaker, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6No - just you.
- Jeffler, on 03/26/2009, -1/+6Pretty sure he's refering to Rask
- mrseptic, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5"I am disappoint"
You're also an idiot for liking soccer. - arizona01, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5It gets the players and fans fired up, it makes for a much more exciting game. Usually, its not an all out brawl where anything goes. Players take off their gloves and helmets and rarely do they ever get injured. A few cuts a scrapes, its all part of the game.
- IpecacNeat, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Hockey has a higher attendance rate than basketball this season.
- superkeer, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5As a devoted football (soccer) fan I can safely say that football keepers have got nothing remotely close to the ferocity and toughness of the ice hockey goalie.
Would much rather have the hockey goalie at my back than any footballer.
With that, go Gunners.
And go Capitals. - sheldonnbbaker, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5There quite often are suspensions for stuff like that. It's part of the game.
If you take fighting out of the game (which there was some debate to recently), there would be tons of cheap stick work (hacking and slashing) all the time with no way to prevent it. - Jeffler, on 03/26/2009, -2/+6Yes, because that's incredibly cheap and you would be hated so much around the league for keeping your goalie mask on that refs would actually turn their cheek when you get cheapshotted.
- zadadka, on 03/26/2009, -2/+6What is it it with Ice Hockey?
In every other sport, such petulant and violent behaviour would be rightly and heavily vilified, and most certainly penalised... fines, suspensions, bans... all that.
Why is this sport treated differently?
Are players taken on by teams for their ice hockey skills, or their gladiatorial capabilities?
Genuine questions, but I don't doubt I'll be Dugg to Hades for having the audacity to ask. - Drax0n, on 03/26/2009, -2/+6End to end playoff action is way more exciting than basketball the game where any single basket has very little effect on the outcome of the game.
There is no sport on the planet that can compete with overtime in a playoff hockey game. - BoneheadFarker, on 03/26/2009, -4/+8Oooooooh...so THAT'S why most goalies come from Quebec..
- danthepiercer, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5as much as i love the Wings, i gotta say, Roy is one badass goalie!
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5And you're a head of the ***** variety.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5When Patrick Roy retired from the Avs, that was Step 1 in their long and slow descent to Loserville. God, they're pathetic now. How many years in a row did they make the playoffs? 11? 12? Then last year, they barely miss out. And now this year, they're the worst team in the Western Conference. It used to be that no matter how ***** the Rockies or the Broncos or the Nuggets did, you could always count on the Avs to be in the thick of things. Now, they're just downright pitiful.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Can't say how proud I am to see Philly teams in 4 of those 10 clips!
- CkMaverick, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Nobody will have anything on Hextall in this department. Roy had a bit of a mean streak, but Hextall played that way every single night. If you looked at him wrong he would take your legs out with his axe chop. His stick was specially designed to be able to chop people. Don't mess with Hextall.
- danthepiercer, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4christ on a cracker man, thats ***** hockey!
perhaps we could have just a couple of sports that arent completely pussified.
i know, maybe we could call dana white and ask him if he would consider changing the rules of UFC so that fighters only slap boxed...wouldnt want any of the fans getting their feelings hurt, now would we.
if hockey is too physical then perhaps you should watch badminton...or soccer. - harryterry, on 03/26/2009, -4/+8Jeffler, you are a hockey God...keep the hockey posts coming!!
Let's go Wings!!! - niffx, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4I love hockey.
- Lososaurus, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5Rask was totally right to flip the ***** out at the refs. He got the pokecheck on the first shot and the skater lost control of the puck, but he still took a shot and it counted when it shouldn't have. Second goal, it's unclear in the video.
Cloutier was one scrappy guy too, but I think Roy vs. Detroit goalies takes the cake( though I do think Cloutier's antics should have been on there ). - goreyend, on 03/26/2009, -4/+8soccer goalies are pussies
- CoreyHalliwell, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5I think the announcer came during the fight.
Thanks for another great post jeffler! - Gravey9, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5you're right although a lot of these goalies are badass at times, hextall was that way 24/7
- christof53, on 03/26/2009, -3/+7aren't they called goal keepers, not goalies?
- FXNGLAS, on 03/26/2009, -1/+4This is exactly why Hockey is, and always will be, the greatest sport of all time.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3The Avs/Wings rivalry was epic.
- laziperson, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3don't forget Neil Little was on the Phantoms, and I think his belly-flop of sorts takes the cake
- IronDuke83, on 03/26/2009, -1/+4he was 100% right, on two calls in a row. That AHL ref was ***** terrible that night.
- holzy44, on 03/26/2009, -1/+4im still pulling for a kipper luongo or maybe a price fleurry match
