- squishee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Is the first one an homage to Kill Bill? Nice!
- Nateon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I like the yoda on Wade Dubielewicz
- Kevinok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I can't believe how elaborate some of those masks are.
- PeTeRZz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10DiPietro's is so awesome
- eggloaf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8With a 15 year contract he can worry less about his goaltending and more about his mask, I guess...
- RobynG7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Why does Fleury have a goat on his mask instead of a penguin?
- MasterQ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its not a goat... its a carnivorous flower that reflects his nickname "flower" (dunno how he got it but i guess it kinda sounds like his last name, which is pronounced "flurry" btw...) do u see the leaves coming off of it holding a hockey stick on the left picture and draped over the penguin in the right?
- s0m3oNe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0His nickname is 'Flower' because the name Fleury is very similar to the french word 'Fleur' (pronounced Flurr..) which literally means flower.

- fate3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3great find - i've been looking for a site that had a collection of the masks
- kmadigan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I still can't believe the Canucks got Luongo. I feel like I've been dreaming for the last year.
- mattdanis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Same. And I love his 'old school' mask.
- ladymix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Joe Canuck FTW!
- digg-dugg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3um, you mean Johnny Canuck. idiot
- ladymix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Joe Canuck FTW!
- mashlin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7as a Stars fan I think the dream involved to many overtimes =(
- ruhk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm still tired from that series =)
- mattdanis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Same. And I love his 'old school' mask.
- DjOverEZ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7God I wish they went back to the Jason hockey masks. Talk about badass!
- aynrandom, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Indeed. 1970's era goalie masks are the best. =)
- Vagari, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Did you see Jason Bacashihua? He's got Jason _on_ his mask. :)
- hockey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It'd be great but suicide. In today's NHL those masks wouldn't stop anything.
- richgustavson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31Gotta love Hasek, still rockin the helmet from the friggin stone age.
- mds76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Now all we need is for the Cooperalls to make a reappearance.
enh...maybe not.
- mds76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Now all we need is for the Cooperalls to make a reappearance.
- det0r, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Those masks are pretty cool, but tbph, some of it just doesn't look right, it may be a result of trying to wrap it around a curved object like a helmet though.
- seaner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6This is the website to an artist that does some of these. He also has work on this site:
http://www.promasque.com/ - pastasauce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0707/gallery.nhl.goalie.masks/content.8.html
Win.- quacker912, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Flyers will be back next season.
- jjallday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Ken Wregget from the early 90s = best mask ever:
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/cdnuniguy/wregget.jpg - xfirei, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8good post but SI should have included the backs of the helmets too. Atlanta's Goalie has Lil Jon and his crunk cup on the back.

(That's awesome :) )
- ostracize, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
- typicalusername, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Evgeni Nabokov looks like he's got Eddie on his, Go Maiden!
- rnnbob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's not Eddie just some zombie corpse. Any who, IRON MAIDEN ROCKS
- d722002, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I thought it was Eddie at first too... whether it is or not, though, Maiden Rules!
- swgc5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Roman Turek had Eddie on his helmet. Up the Irons!
- snoolyagain, on 10/11/2007, -17/+1Obviously they have forgotten the meaning of the sport. Such gratuitously public child's play is a catastrophic loss for the league. Maybe it is a sign of the times. Certainly this will attract a certain type of uncultured working class fan base and alienate any true believers in the sport, anyone who actually knows the game. There is a reason that men who do not wear masks literally captain the high seas.
- typicalusername, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Dude, seriously... WTF? Yeah, when I think of Hockey.... I think the of the sport of kings, and several well dressed men (who all speak with english accents) talk about how they serve the queen!
- snoolyagain, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0HAve you seen the photos? I think they look like narcissistic pansies. But I must be careful what I say here at Digg. You can be banned from the site for expressing an opinion, which is why "child mind" is so apparent here. Nice tie-in on the site, "ESPN" scripts running with the user-posted article. Profit and use - down to a science for the owner. Nice gig if you can get other people to do it. Social Networking really means "entrepreneur makes friends first and then makes a killing." -Perhaps quietly killing a few volunteers along the way. Yeah baby, run those ESPN ads. Ramp up the numbers and cash it in. You just wait and see who is running the hockey at Digg.
Just wait and see my friend.- Khabi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Because giving them some freedom to paint there masks will be the complete downfall of the sport? Seriously, I hope you're joking. Its not like this is a *new* deveoplement in the game. You're welcome to express your opinion, but don't be surprised when people don't see eye to eye with you. And if you feel you need to restrain what you say on Digg then maybe you should just move on to another community. And to top it off, you're little rant here, made very little sense.
"Nice tie-in on the site, "ESPN" scripts running with the user-posted article." I believe the term you're looking for here is a hyperlink (or link for short). Its one of those things that kind of make the internet work.
Also I just took the time to read over your other comments. You really do talk alot of ***** you know that? - silverwolf761, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6@snoolyagain
Man, take off the tinfoil hat for a bit. Not everything is a conspiracy you know.
If you ask me, the only thing currently wrong with Hockey is the changes thay make on a whim. Can't hit the guy when his head is down? Defense effectively useless in front of the net (This probably annoys me more than most because I used to play Defense and Goalie)?

- liambarron, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Cam Ward has Nickelback on his helmet... is it wrong that I am filled with murderous rage by this? Love to see hockey on digg.
Go Leafs Go!!- viva162, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2is it wrong that i agree with every single thing you said.
woo! - keenada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Golf, Leafs, Golf!
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Regardless of the fact you're a total douche (or a habs fan, I can't tell the difference), I still dugg you up for your opinion, but GO LEAFS GO!
- keenada, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1Or a Sabres fan, or a Rangers fan, or a Senators fan. Or an any-other-Canadian-city fan.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Regardless of the fact you're a total douche (or a habs fan, I can't tell the difference), I still dugg you up for your opinion, but GO LEAFS GO!
- ColdForged, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually, Ward stopped playing with the Nickelback mask during the previous season after he and, frankly, the entire team hit the early slumps. I guess he got superstitious or something.
- viva162, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2is it wrong that i agree with every single thing you said.
- jmreedy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I can't believe they made a list and didn't even include every friggin' team. Suuure you got 3 different Islander designs but where the hell is Backstrom for the Wild?!?
- fate3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5does he even had a custom mask yet or is he still sporting the white noobie mask?
- CannedMango, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Who's the harpy on the side of John Graham's mask? Better yet, who drew that thing?
- typicalusername, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Is it me or does Martin Brodeur's look like it's painted subject material for a demonic lesbian strap on? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0707/gallery.nhl.goalie.masks/content.25.html
- drimo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Nittymaki's is pretty sweet!
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3Why is it that the only black goalie in the NHL has a the only black caricature on his helmet? Sounds like reverse racism to me.
http://i.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0707/gallery.nhl.goalie.masks/images/emery.jpg- juvefury, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Emery didn't want that guy on his helmet at first. There was some controversy because Emery, who used to be a boxer, want to put his hero from his youth on the mask. That hero happened to be Mike Tyson and the Senators management didn't want that so they tried to get him to take it off. Anyways, long story short, he wore the mask, there was controversy, the Senators lost their next game or couple games, and he took it off. He said it was bad luck.
- spurandthedeb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Thats actually George Chuvalo. He's not black.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think he mixed it up, heh.
- Schmidtopolis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Just a small correction... it was the league that didn't want Tyson on the helmet, not the Sens management.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think thats all *****. They can't stop him from wearing the helmet.
- spurandthedeb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Thats actually George Chuvalo. He's not black.
- aleclerc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Mike Weekes is a black goalie, in the NHL. Get your facts straight
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Kevin Weekes, not Mike.

- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Some cool ones there. There was a goalie in the NHL that had a Final Fantasy X mask though. I need to see if I can find that one again.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Chris Osgood has the best every guys http://info.detnews.com/dn/pix/2005/08/09/sports/a009-osgood3-0805y_08-09-2005_KP7Q0GR.jpg

The neat part is that when the user account is banned, the posts magically vanish too. It is "perfect industrial fascism." You will never - not ever - find a post on this site that is slightly critical of the site. You will find only happy cheerleading. And this is not by chance.- Brak710101, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2YES FOR DOUBLE POST...!
Bury this. - Brak710101, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm so glad you reposted this from a 2 deep reply you made earlier, just so people could see it.
Now I think your 2x retarded.

- conradbuff, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I really like Ryan Miller's mask, the buffalo head works well on the helmet. But I think it's better with the black and red!
http://www.gameusedsticks.com/maskshtml/miller_matches.html - Khabi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I still really like Cujo's mask. Not sure if he's been resigned on the Coyotes or not tho (a shame if he isn't)
http://www.viewimages.com/Search.aspx?mid=73168978&epmid=2&partner=Google- diceone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He won't be signed by the Coyotes. He's almost 40 and had a subpar season. They're looking for youth now.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have a bad feeling the leafs are gonna trade Raycroft and get Joseph. :(
- diceone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He won't be signed by the Coyotes. He's almost 40 and had a subpar season. They're looking for youth now.

- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I actually got to meet the guy who has done most of those helmets at my work. He also did Legacy's motorcycle. If I remember his name I'll post it.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ray Bishop is his name. Here is his web-site, case anyone was curious.
- asdfasdfasdfasd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14I love hockey.
- YEMandy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3wow, those are some really ugly helmets.
- HanSolo69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I like that you can tell that the Carolina goalie is a redneck even just through his mask.
- weezerjoker2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually he was born in Saskatchewan, Canada.
- DIGGerPhelpsND, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You're making his point.
Saskatchewan is basically the deep south of the great north, except colder.- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1^ Troof

- weezerjoker2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually he was born in Saskatchewan, Canada.
- deeboe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I am a little disappointed they didn't include Josh Harding's mask he wore this year for his sister battling AIDS: http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/hockey/canuckssunstory.html?id=c057f93b-086b-40a1-9480-e26bc0457379&k=89656
He auctioned it later to help fight breast cancer.- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That is hardcore.
- deeboe, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3Nothing about Josh Harding?

http://www.kazlaaz.com/goalies/pictures/maskhayward01.jpg
I used to have a Sharks poster just of this mask. Haven't been able to find a better picture of it. - gunner1138, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Detroit Red Wings FTW!!!!!!!! Dominik Hasek's helmet is uberly 1337
- Phantom104, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1This one has the best artwork hands down.
http://www.80stees.com/images/products/Jason-Mask-costume.jpg - urhiness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Isn't it funny that Ilya Bryzgalov of the Anaheim Ducks has Daffy Duck on his mask when the team was originally a Disney owned team. Shouldn't be Donald Duck on there instead, in tribute to the teams roots.

- ostracize, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Trivia fact (as indicated in the article): Clint Benedict was the first goalie to wear a mask in an NHL game. Jacques Plante was just the first to do so regularly.
