- Jeffler, on 02/23/2009, -1/+14Toronto Maple Leafs:
The Passion That Blinds Us All And Takes Our Money.
Seriously, not only are they going to probably have all but like 10 people renew their season tickets (only 3 of about 13000 season ticket holders didn't renew last year), they could've probably raised prices up 35% instead of 3.5% and the results would've been the same. God, as much as I love this team, I hate the organization - they might as well print money. - Archer, on 02/24/2009, -5/+11Seriously? A hockey team raises its prices by 3.5% and that makes the front page? Slow news day?
- Kallius, on 02/24/2009, -2/+71) Consistently have a bottom-of-the-barrel hockey team year after year
2) Convince stupid people that going to hockey games is amazing and you are a loser if you don't attend live games, whatever the cost
3) Sell outrageously priced merchandise to same stupid people to convince them they are part of the team
4) ????
5) Profit! - TokenBlack, on 02/24/2009, -6/+11How awesome was 24 tonight?!
- AzureRise, on 02/24/2009, -0/+4I think the preview for next episode gave away way too much.
- bartofdahammer, on 02/24/2009, -0/+3It''s the leafs. Brian Burke coughs it makes the front page.
- Jacare, on 02/24/2009, -1/+4considering the wait list for seasons tickets in Toronto is like 25+ years and they already have the most expensive ticket prices in the league, im not surprised at all. but the real reason for this lies behind the fact that healthy hockey markets(Canada) have to subsidize teams like Phoenix and Tampa. Unfortunately because more than the usual number of US teams are doing miserable this year because of the economy teams like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary will see big increases in ticket prices(as opposed to the usual modest increases) to subsidize teams like Phoenix, St. Louis, Nashville, etc. this is extremely gay because a single ticket to an nhl hockey game in Canada already exceeds $100...whereas a team like Detroit(defending Stanely cup champs) is currently offering deals where you get 2 tickets, 2 hot dogs, and 2 soda's for $44 and 3 games for $81(single seat). ***** you Bettman, bring home the jets, move another team to Toronto and 1 back to Quebec city or Seattle if you have to.
- Gryffydd, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2This is an article about HOCKEY--in case you missed that. I was making a joke about Americans and their ignorance of sports other than Baseball, American Football, and Basketball.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Probably win more, too.
- Canadian0207, on 02/24/2009, -2/+4every season that goes by i get more and more disillusioned by this program
- brownsound00, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3The leafs could put a bunch of gorillas in the blue and white... and they would still sell out games.
- evilJaze, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Suckage tax is low this year.
- QsheiK, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3Leafs fans are delusional.
- lostinseganet, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3I think there are more people who care about soccer then football. I am not a fan but millions maybe even a billion people all over the world LOVE soccer. Think beyond your own shore man.
- shrugs, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2I thought we'd already hit a low with so many of the local (toronto) hockey fans FLYING to state-side games for cheaper entertainment.
- OddyOh, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1Doesn't MLSE own the Toronto MLS team? So they'd still get the money.
- SolituSneiku, on 02/24/2009, -1/+2The Montréal Canadiens can raise prices up 800% and people will still pack the stadium
- CaptainChad, on 02/24/2009, -1/+23.5 percent? That's barely keeping even with inflation. Move along, there's no story here.
- deamon2001, on 02/24/2009, -1/+2No big deal, the team sucks and you can never get tickets anyway.....
- sinurgy, on 02/24/2009, -1/+2Soccer players dive more than Michael Phelps! That's the main reason I can't handle any more than the World Cup every four years.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 02/24/2009, -2/+3Don't worry... A lot of us here in Toronto hate them just as much as you do.
- Jeffler, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1Yeah, the Leafs parent company also owns our Minor Hockey team, our Basketball team, and our Soccer team, and gouges us for those too (thought not as badly).
- TdotFUNK, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1No. I bought a Blue Jays season pass yesterday.....$114 WITH Tax.
- evilJaze, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1They traded most of them off in the off-season.
- forthex, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1Step 4 is a misnomer; you've already taken the steps to make profit (and absurd amounts at that).
My God, the Leafs suck... even their accounting team is epic fail. - TdotFUNK, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1That, I would watch.
- ViSioN, on 02/24/2009, -1/+1Actually, from many places across the GTA it's a lot less than 2 hours. In fact, many of those people going to Buffalo probably have comparable times (if not less time) to driving to Toronto to see a game. And much cheaper too. So really, there's nothing crazy or odd about it.
As for whether or not they're douchebags... that's up to you I suppose. But from your comment, you're the one that looks like a douche. - evilJaze, on 02/24/2009, -1/+1Ottawa still has a good infestation of them.
- 16ozTBone, on 03/09/2009, -0/+0Professional sports teams don't live in the real world. Too bad we couldnt pay for perfomance, like we supposedly do in my business. 2008 was a bad year = really lame bonus. I am a Sabres season ticket holder, they are raising prices 5%. The COO for the Sabres said the exact same thing in his interviews and press releases (as the COO of the Leafs) about being sensitive - but its' all crap. They demand down payments 6 months before the next season, and spin it as a benefit. If I wasn't such a degenerate for hockey, I might actually do something about it.
- rheaume, on 02/24/2009, -2/+2***** beat me to it
- mckirsch, on 02/24/2009, -4/+4Leafs fans suck. They visit us here in Buffalo all the time for games.
Sack of douchebags, every last one. (OK, at least the crazy 2 hour traveling ones) - gModo, on 02/24/2009, -3/+1get into soccer and support your local MLS team, it will most likely be cheaper than going to the movies! And certainly any other pro sport event.
- Gryffydd, on 02/24/2009, -19/+8Buried, no one cares about soccer.
