- EGO822, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Nice to see hockey on the front page, but this isn't very interesting. There were more interesting things that happened during the draft.
- kevinmotel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12I hate when people say this, but it's been in the que for 12 hours, only to make it to the front page with 18 diggs? AND Kevin Rose diggs it too? The digg algorithm just got more confusing for me.
- cyberoidx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12CAPS LOCK DOESN'T MAKE SUBMISSION GET MORE DIGGS
- drmessano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I thought digg was a news site... Why all the ***** comments about a hockey story?
Nice to see something other than "ZOMG, APPLE RELEAZEZ NEW MACBOOK WITH MORE RAM" or "HOW I SWITCHED FROM KUBUNTU TO UBUNTU IN 10 EASY STEPS AND 0 LOLZ" on the front page.
Go outside. - kmadigan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Cherepanov dropped cause
a) he's got the work ethic of a Wal-Mart janitor
b) the NHL and Russia do not have a transfer agreement in place.
If he even does come play in the NHL, he's going to float like Yashin. - DapperScoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9If you don't care, why did you bother clicking on the story?
- steveatdownmix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Really? And Angelo Esposito at #20 isn't a bigger steal? If the draft happened 6 months ago, he would have been in the top 3 overall, if not flat-out #1.
- sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5lets see, it's filed under Sports>Hockey. I'd say HOCKEY fans would care. If you don't, then don't read it and sure as hell don't post comments like this.
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Have you ever heard of giving at two week notice? If you watched the draft you would already know that he can come here with or without a transfer agreement. He will one more year in Russia, than leave no matter what Omsk or the Russian Hockey Federation says.
- kmadigan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It'll still be a pain in the ass - Russian authorities will fight it as hard as they can, like they did with Malkin
- evildeadxsp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The kid is amazing though - and he simply dropped because he has to stay at least 1 more year in the Russia Super League due to his contract. And the lack of a transfer agreement could be a bit rocky, so teams were a bit afraid to risk it.
But the Rangers know this, and it was judged to be one of the weakest drafts in years by most scouts. So, you figure it's hit or miss, and there were reports that the Rangers GM travelled to Russia 4 times to watch the kid play (http://ordinaryleastsquare.typepad.com/blueshirtbulletin/2007/06/dont-pinch-me--.html)
So they probably know what kind of player their getting.
And Jagr's contract ends after this season, and he most likely will not re-sign with any team (he is gone on record for saying this). So this little star will enter the spotlight once Jagr retires. Could be a real gem or a complete bust (but, as I said, it was a weak draft year, so why not risk it?)
Highlight video for the kid ---> http://youtube.com/watch?v=bqZcfbG64Hw - wsphloyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Did you hear all the boos for Bettman when he opened up the draft?! Hah!!
http://www.FireBettman.com - sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3the algorithm is not for you to understand. just accept it for what it is.
- tpv2066, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Kevin = 80 digs
- alxdman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3True, As well. He said he's staying in Russia for at least another year.
- Carsonauto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I find this interesting. However, it doesn't involve Linux, Leopard or AJAX. Plus, it involves fitness and athleticism. Sorry mate.
- AgentHatchet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So how long before they trade him for a big name?
- Casework, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Agreed. Mayorov, a top 5 ranked European skater falling to Columbus in the 4th round at 94 overall may prove to be the steal of the Draft.
And LA picking Thomas Hickey at 4 overall? Wow.
Columbus was a great place to be this weekend, and I'd say it put the NHL Draft on a whole new level. - heresy_fnord, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2DIGGER HITS CAPSLOCK WITH STEAL OF ARTICLE TITLE
- spartan777, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yeah, i'm really hoping next year will improve for the NHL. I haven't really cared much about the NHL since the closeout. That last game this season was kinda *****.
- .mark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Oh yeah, the NY POST is qualified for a good unbiased opinion of the draft...
- sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4will he still be playing in 2048???
- sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2actually, that doesn't say much for the other 16 GMs sometimes. Scott Gomez was picked 27th in his draft year. 26 other GMs passed on him, he won Rookie of the year and 2 Stanley Cups and is one of the most sought after FAs this off-season. Hell, Rico Fata and Manny Malhotra were picked 7 and 8 that year and look how they turned out.
- bjtuna, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2we want fishsticks!
- CoronaVegas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As a Minnesota Wild Fan, this will be one thing to watch in the future. Since the Wild moved up to 16th to select Colton Gillies instead of the Russian kid. (However, I am shocked this was on front page of Digg).
- speedk0re, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1your all caps helped
- PKO17, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This kid put up nasty numbers in Russia; it will be interesting to see how he does in the NHL. More points as a rookie than Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, and Malkin and the 17th pick? Now that is a steal.
- yaazz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"On the night NHL Entry Draft history was made when Americans went 1-2 for the first time,"
mmm grammur good
PS: Why all the haters on this sports story? - fitzfan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The kid goes crazier than Ovechkin when he scores, i much prefer Datsyuks no celebration after he scores, just acts like it happens all the time, no need to go crazy.
- evildeadxsp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thank you. Everyone seems to be ripping on a hockey story hitting the front page... hockey is the *****
- pb4now89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1what is exciting is that i know and went to school with the second pick, James vanRiemsdyk
- Casework, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Isn't there a sports section on Digg?
... - sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah, like for the first time the 1 and 2 picks were Americans.
but this is still an interesting draft twist. - sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1at least he didn't pre-pend AMAZING BREAKING NEWS:
- funkspiel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4This kid's going to lead the Rangers to their next Stanley Cup.
- sarazen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was hoping the Caps would take him. It would have been cool to see him on the same team as Ovechkin. I guess they will square off instead which, now that I think about it, is just as good.
- TechCoder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Woopty freaken dooo.... Maybe he was a steal for the rngers but 16 other GM's didnt think the kid was worth the pick. I think thats more telling than anything.
- EGO822, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21940!
- drworthless, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Pretty exciting stuff for Rangers fans. I know I have been concerned over what will happen as Jagr starts to age (more), but this kid could definitely help fill in the gaps and help sell tickets (not that the Rangers struggle to sell out).
Rangers had a great year, lookin forward to next season! - ConservoHippie, on 10/11/2007, -26/+26HOW DID THIS REACH THE FRONT PAGE?!
- akirtland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Cherepanov will be a bust.
- blackkyle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0as a diehard blues fan, it really bothers me that our front office didn't get him at #9 or 11 before we traded that pick...our team's hardworking style would've got him wanting to play for his spot but we turned out fine...let's hope the rangers hit the jackpot-it's not the same money-grubbing team they used to be and the knicks still are
- sillywampa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1dugg you up, even though I hate the rangers.
- viserov, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1HAD I NOT SEEN THE ALL CAPS IN THE TITLE, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE CLICKED THE LINK. GREAT MARKETING TOOL, THANKS!
Now if you'll excuse me, my eyes are bleeding. - iflex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Go Rangers!

- cpk121, on 10/11/2007, -9/+8Score! Unlike the average digger, I'm excited about this.
- drake53, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I never Digg stories in ALL CAPS
- tpv2066, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6WHEN I WRITE IN CAPS I REALLY THINK THIS IS AWESOME
