- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+11Snowmobile plunging into an icy lake, now that is a Canadian way to die.
- paulmer2003, on 12/02/2008, -0/+10Don't know who he is, but that sounds like a pretty ***** way to go.
Sorry man. - benitojuarez, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9Note to self, dont drive heavy machinery on frozen water.
- thatsgoodkarma, on 12/02/2008, -6/+12Who?
- whoreable, on 12/02/2008, -1/+7"It's a SNOW MACHINE" - Todd Palin
- Jeffler, on 12/02/2008, -2/+7RIP
- eaglered00, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4at least he died doing something fun
- lucutus, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3horrific. I don't even want to think about freezing to death like that. Dying cold is a common childhood fear.
- MountainGoatMan, on 12/02/2008, -3/+6RIP, eh.
- redscofield, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4I think police should be searching for Global Warming...
- mrhedges, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Uhh... a hardly known hockey player from the 60s dies, makes it on the front page, but news that the Liberals and NDP are creating a coalition with support from the Bloc to overthrow the Conservative government is no where to be seen? We just wasted $300,000,000 on an election, all for a nice lesson that democracy in Canada doesn't work.
No disrespect to Hubert Martin, but come on. I doubt more than 5 people people who dugg this story knew who he was before reading the article. - mrhedges, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4It's already been submitted. Three times. The highest has 20 diggs.
- sockpuppets, on 12/02/2008, -2/+4How is asking who someone is disrespectful?
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Ice roads have been a part of Canada for a very long time. Heavy trucks and machinery that could not be transported on regular roads are no problem for the ice roads.
He died doing something he likely did several times before.
- disappointment, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Always a good idea to monitor ice conditions before traversing them on a snowmobile. It's a shame that we lose so many people in the same way, when there are plenty of people that have knowledge of ice conditions.
- DontGiveADamn, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Isn't it a little early in the season to be riding a snowmobile on a frozen lake?
- travis1982, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3so... Canadian hockey made into digg, but nothing about the overthrow of the Canadian government today? Jesus Christ.
- tisk, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1icy lake. yep that'll pretty much do it.
- travis1982, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1***** wrong post. apologies.
- asgardshill, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Might want to make a dry suit (the scuba type) part of your wardrobe from now on, snowmobilers. If this guy had worn one, he might have been able to get out of the water himself before his core body temperature went too low. I wear one every time I go skiing and actually have to cool off when I come in off the slopes.
- Laiden, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1That is not legal yet. The vote of non-confidence is Dec. 8. Then, the Queen or her representative has to allow the other parties to form a government (basically a formality).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Confidence_Motion - travis1982, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1yes, but that's exactly what it is...a formality. The only other possibility is that the Governer General calls an election, which is highly unlikely because we just had one. Nobody wants to waste that amount of money. It's going to go through, thank god.
- mrsteveman1, on 12/02/2008, -2/+2Snow machines make snow for my skis. Snow mobiles do what they sound like, they are mobile, even on snow :D
- thrikulam, on 12/02/2008, -5/+5Well that's the pits.
- Spiritualized, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1RIP Pit.
My thoughts are with you, Nicole, Nina and Noel.
M - gkiltz, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0Sad!
Condolences to his family, and to the NHL family!
And a word of caution!
Watch what you're doing on those things!! - calnu29, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0I'm sure he had done that many times and thought he knew the condition of the ice. The problem is snowmobiles are HEAVY. It's a sad thing because you know it never occurred to him that it would be his last ride. R.I.P. Pit.
http://www.squidoo.com/makemoneysurveys-1 - Spiritualized, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0He did many, many times.
- pinojunior, on 01/14/2009, -0/+0http://travels-diary.blogspot.com
- Spiritualized, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0Living in those conditions was part of his everyday life. I'm sure he was very knowledgable about ice conditions and he was always cautious. There's always an element of risk and this was simply a tragic accident.
- travis1982, on 12/02/2008, -2/+1oh...well 1) you can only submit stories that will actually get attention ifvyou are either Mr.Babyman, or some ***** with a lot of time and internet friends and 2) I don't usually skim the upcoming.
- idov, on 12/02/2008, -2/+1Pit Martin is part of hockey history, for probably the wrong reason. He was a central figure is the big trade that brought Phil Esposito to Boston from Chicago and that led to two cups to the Bruins. But was a great competitor. I don't understand bringing up a connection to Canadian politics. There is none. The man died a tragic death. RIP.
- KrazyKoala, on 12/02/2008, -3/+2Then submit it.
- CaptianJack, on 12/02/2008, -1/+0KrazyKoala, I don't think thatsgoodkarma meant anything disrespectful. I have never heard of Hubert (Pit) Martin either. Thanks for the link, I have checked it out and now I know what he is famous for. RIP Hubert (Pit) Martin.
- deadapostle, on 12/02/2008, -3/+1If only he had Todd Palin's Championship skills.
- spepin, on 12/02/2008, -6/+2Those Quebecois love their ski-doos.
