- Jeembo, on 01/02/2009, -0/+58Whoever wrote this article knows nothing about hockey. It's Red WINGS.. not Red Skins. And they got the names/teams switched in picture 8...
Anyway, the winter classic is awesome. - kdamp, on 01/02/2009, -2/+36Looks like it kinda sucks having to sit so far away.
- DeadSkinMask, on 01/02/2009, -1/+34As a Canadian, I would like to express how proud I am of the American Hockey fans.
The entire event, start to finish, was top notch. The fan participation & enthusiasm blew me away.
If only every market down south had the kind of support that showed up at Wrigley that day...
Cheers. - Gustlock, on 01/02/2009, -4/+29Go Red Skins!! Best Hockey Team in the World!! I hear they play some pretty mean baseball too.
- Walcherina, on 01/02/2009, -3/+24They should do this more than once a year.
- coasteraddict, on 01/02/2009, -4/+24I live right down the road from Wrigley and it was amazing yesterday, best part is I am from Detroit and the Wings won!!! What a great game, go Red Wings!!!
- Blasphemous88, on 01/02/2009, -0/+18I think this is a great way to bring hockey back up in terms of US visibility. The Sport has had a rough go of it lately and the more they do things like this, the better it is for the sport. Props to the diggers that have submitted hockey-related articles as of late. It brings to light just how exciting the sport is to watch; even if it is just a short clip on You Tube here and there.
- enderu, on 01/02/2009, -0/+13"The Red Skins ended up winning 6-4"
The Red Skins? Really? Nobody wanted to, I don't know, check the names of the teams before publishing the article? It's right in some of the pictures, which is even more confusing. This is why you don't get sports news (aside from maybe football (soccer) or cricket, or whatever you crazy Brits enjoy) from the Telegraph. - theberlindoctor, on 01/02/2009, -0/+11AFFIRMATIVE.
YOU CAN TELL I AM A ROBOT BECAUSE I SAY AFFIRMATIVE. - sheldonnbbaker, on 01/02/2009, -0/+10The very first one between the Oilers and Canadiens was probably the best one - would've been cool to have the Wing old-timers play the Hawk old-timers.
Good to see the fan support in Chicago. - whoizthedrizzle, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9vanna, i'd like to buy an E please
- bigstinky, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9I loved all those touchscores.
- WNW3, on 01/02/2009, -1/+9Go wings indeed :) Great game.
- IHaveIssues, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8Worst photo captions ever.
- DarkStryke, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8The should try something wild like putting a blue glow around the puck to help people see it better! ;)
- SDM187, on 01/02/2009, -2/+10it was fukn awesome. 400 level seats went for the most money. last year's game in buffalo had people experience the unfortunate seating gaffe that is being at a hockey game in a football stadium. i'm sure they'll do mostly if not only baseball stadiums now. especially after how awesome it was yesterday
- madloop, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Much better photos here: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/galleries ...
- mreade, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7All of your comments pretty much say the same thing. Are you a robot?
- Zeriax, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6Nice captions... the "Red Skins" on images 5 & 10.. lol. Brilliant!
- nofx1510, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7Since the Blackhawks starting playing good your going to see a lot of this enthusiasm from Chicago. We have been waiting along time for this day to come.
- chadsmith729, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Wow nobody commented on the jerseys? I'm a Penns fan and the jerseys they wore there last year couldn't hold up next to the Red Skins (lol) and the blackhawks. I think both had really neat jerseys. The game was freaking great, I wish they would do more games like that.
- Burrito, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Thanks Canadian spokesperson. Go Sharks!
- randall814, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5yeah, i'm from michigan and grew up a red wings fan to the death, but chicago is my favorite city in the united states. it's beautiful there.
wish i could have seen it. - Opiate, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5In hockey you don't have to see the puck, you just know where it is, it's like a 6th sense.
- AdamaObama, on 01/02/2009, -2/+7Hockey is a superior winter sport to football. Where the NFL is concerned, I don't see how all those egos can fit in one stadium. If they were allowed to beat the crap out of each other, like in hockey, I think we'd have more humble NFL players.
- ether3a1, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Really? I'm thinking that having it at Fenway Park in Boston or PNC Park in Pittsburgh would be great. Having it in a football stadium last year made the rink just look miniscule, it was just too tiny for such a large field.
- cquilliam, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6I have to agree with @DasStimmt, the Hawks jerseys were amazing. One of the best uniforms i've seen in the NHL, my next favourite is Minnesota's jerseys, they look very nice in my opinion.
- DasStimmt, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Last year Pittsburgh just looked weird. The Wings jerseys were ok, but the Blackhawks' were phenomenal- I must own one.
- nobleexperiment, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4The Winter Classic was more fun to watch than any of the boring Bowl games that went on yesterday. I highly doubt there will be a winter classic with the Ducks at Anaheim Stadium but I'll fly to a winter classic game with the Ducks in Canada, Boston or the Great Lakes if it happens.
- steelopus, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5There is no excuse for trying to position a hockey rink inside a diamond.
Rectangular/oval stadiums still make the most sense and provide the most people with the best views. Very few spectators in Chicago actually had good angles or sightlines on any of the action.
At this point, Buffalo > Chicago. Hopefully next year they won't return to a baseball venue. - bigstinky, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Especially since light blue and black and yellow go so well together.
- dandyrubich, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4"Celebrate: Brian Rafalski is congratuled by Red Skins team-mate Jiri Hudler after scoring his second goal of the second period. The Red Skins ended up winning 6-4"
Great comment on photo 10
GO RED SKINS!....LMFAO - FXNGLAS, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Anyone else try to register for the Reebok Promotion? The traffic to the site was ridiculous.
I wish I could have been there... and why is the UK hosting these photos? - klitzbtc, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Wasn't as good as last year, but still pretty sweet.
I think it's better to be played in a football stadium, it's probably easier to see the game in the baseball field, but getting 70k+ people to see a hockey game is just ridiculously awesome.
Beaver Stadium: Pens vs Flyers '10 :) - coldwind777, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4I believe somebody got hudled...and twice!
- zerton, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4but those rooftop seats are bars... :]
- spiker611, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Damn straight.
- atkruz789, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4I expected nothing less from two original 6 teams that are within 3 hours of each other. Not only that this is the most played matchup in NHL history, this being the 701st game played against these two teams. Go Red Wings!!
- WNW3, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3It's weird that they got it right most of the time. I mean if they got it wrong everytime it would make more sense but the writer only called them the skins 2 times...
- sens, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4Please, don't ever let soccer fans write hockey captions again!
- ether3a1, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3"Penns" fan? Seriously?
I absolutely love the jerseys that they wore during last year's Winter Classic, and am so glad they used it as the new Third Jersey. They're probably the best out of all the new Third Jerseys introduced by the NHL this year. A nice modern twist at the vintage colors. - coldwind777, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3It's not really like a sixth sense because it's something you learn from watching hockey...
But yeah, it's something that, after awhile, you just know. - HelplessSEAL, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3How do you see a damn thing when you're in the outfield bleachers, worse yet, the apartment buildings o_O?
- ncredblstrength, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3This is probably the one day a year anyone thinks hockey is 'cool'... enjoy it while it lasts... oh wait, that was yesterday, no one cares again!
- Shakermaker, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4It was a fantastic game, and a great setting.
...the only cringe-worthy moment was when they sang "Tale Me Out to the Ball Game". Not a very smart plan to whoever thought of it. - zegomabeach, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3I wish they had the picture of Marion Hossa getting his goalie interference penalty by ramming Cristobal (Crystal Ball) Huet in the 2nd.
- spyd3rweb, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Does anyone know how many times Pierre had to mention how much the wind was a factor? It seemed like he talked about it everytime his mic came on. If you were playing a drinking game about it, you would have passed out by the end of the first. I wish NBC could find somebody other than him to go between the glass. He's horrible.
- speedk0re, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3As much as i'm a longtime Ranger fan, the teams couldn't have been more perfect for this game. Detroit as the leading powerhouse, and Chicago as the upstarts (they remind me of Pittsburgh last year when their entire team wasn't injured.) Once Chicago gets some playoff experience, as long as they can keep guys like Toews, Kane, Sharp, Versteeg, and maybe a slightly more consistent goalie (Huet and the Bulin wall can be great, but they get blown away some nights), I see a dynasty lasting a few years.
Of course they'll always lose the the Rangers in the finals tho - muckb777, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3I see in pic 5 they haven't yet added another digit to the "AC" sign. It's been 100 years "After Championship" for the cubbies, never thought I'd see the day they'd have to add another digit to that sign....
- imnotdavey, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3They are lucky Chicago got a dusting off snow the day prior. The days leading up to it was incredibly warm in the city, it would have been funny to see a nice white rink juxtaposed with a field of brown grass.
