- str1fe, on 06/27/2009, -0/+18I don't think anyone's too surprised. Tavares will be a great player for the Isles, their franchise deserves better than their recent seasons.
I'm almost more excited over Hedman though. Tampa needs a blueline, and Hedman can be their #1 guy as soon as this season. My team is in Tampa's division, so I'm really hoping to drive up to Atlanta to catch a game against the Bolts. Hopefully I'll see Hedman and Kane both there! - s043446583, on 06/27/2009, -0/+15People who watch hockey, *****.
- XPrivateXRyanX, on 06/27/2009, -0/+13check the "who dugg this?" list.
- brownsound00, on 06/27/2009, -0/+13London Knights All Star forward. He broke Wayne Gretzky's minor league scoring record. i think that speaks for itself.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/27/2009, -1/+14Tavares is going to be a great player, same with Hedman. The best part was Bettman getting booed.
- asgardshill, on 06/27/2009, -0/+12Yet here you are, posting in this thread.
- 00z003, on 06/27/2009, -0/+11check the "who dugg this?" list.
- str1fe, on 06/27/2009, -0/+10Just the guy who's been hyped to be the #1 pick in this draft for the past four years, ever since he got into the OHL at 14.
No one important really. - fapfaptrain, on 06/27/2009, -0/+10That's the routine every single year. The very moment Bettman gets onstage, a sea of boos overwhelm the place.
- octodd, on 06/27/2009, -0/+9I think we can expect some trades as well. Anaheim trading Pronger to Philly was a pretty big trade. Interested to see what happens with Heatley.
- Forbiddendonut, on 06/27/2009, -1/+9I loved the Detroit/Colorado rivalry. It's a shame the Avs went downhill
- GQCarrick, on 06/27/2009, -1/+8Its a good thing Mike Milbury isn't with the Islanders anymore, because the pick would have been traded for a bag of hockey pucks.
- mgd4, on 06/27/2009, -0/+7Any of the top 3 could have easily been a #1 pick.... I like Duchene and Hedman
- Onethirtytwo, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5I am glad my team got Duchene, He is best all around player!
- asgardshill, on 06/27/2009, -1/+6And Colorado picks third overall. Thus have the mighty fallen.
- brownsound00, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5Your username has Stanley in it. Obviously named after the stanley cup. You have "Kool" in there, which is a retarded way to make yourself seem cool, but you end up looking like a jackass. Regardless, Hockey is played on cool ice.
Looks like we've got a closet hockey fan here. Bit bitter the Pens won? Or did you get picked last in gym class for floor hockey?
Probably.

Well, that's a grand total of 3.. yes, only 3, of the troll criteria you have met. If you really want to succeed as being a troll, you gotta step up your game son. That's just terrible. Poor showing Mr. Nazichimp. - NoamChimpsky, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4Did you watch the second round series?
Ovechkin is awful defensively. He is a one dimensional player that has a great talent for shooting (and shooting, and shooting) and scoring goals, but his backcheck is nonexistant as he hangs out by the blue line waiting for an outlet pass. He may be great at scoring, but otherwise, he's a liability (go ahead and re-watch that goal where Crosby picks Ovechkin's pocket.)
Crosby is a better all around player and Malkin is better than both of them. However, the difference is rather small, so I think hometown fans are pretty much always going to go with their guy. - iMiXiMi, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4Will be interesting to see if he turns around this needing club
- brownsound00, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4His comments afterwards were pretty awesome.
- DeadSkinMask, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4Pretty quiet on the trade front so far (except of course for Pronger) but non the less, I always love draft day.
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4This years draft is interesting, I think buffalo could've done better though with the #13 pick, we need a better defense here :/
- GQCarrick, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3ummm no they made a good pick, they need big tough forwards. Tyler Myers will most likely be starting next year.
- brownsound00, on 06/27/2009, -2/+5BS Cup winners? Still bitter about the Wings losing? I thought 5 Cups in 10 years would make Wings fans happy... but noooooo.
- 00z003, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3I wasn't sure what they were doing with de Haan though.
- bigbadgoat, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3Yes they do.
The again, it doesn't surprise me there's so many ignorant people in a nation that fills hundreds of thousands of seats every week to watch NASCAR. The first 80% of the race is nothing but making adjustments for the last 20%, where a good driver can easily come from the back of the pack to the front in those 20% of the laps. Pretty pathetic. - anarcurt, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3Hedman might even be a better talent, but there is no doubt that John Tavares will sell seats. The Islanders have been lacking on good scoring talent and will benefit greatly. This guy has 50 goal season potential(maybe more). It would be great to see a rivalry brew up between him and division rival Crosby.
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I didn't say it was a bad pick, i'm just saying we need a better defense to help miller when he likes to nap in net and let in crap goals
- ThraxyWaxy, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I'm from Canada, so hometown fan debunked. Also, did you see the game (not sure which series) where Ovie made two diving poke checks to bail out their cellar-dwelling defencemen? He's not a complete all-around player but a) he's still learning/developing, b) Crosby isn't complete either. If you're looking at all-around players I think Datsyuk has to be at the top of the list. 5v5, Powerplay, Penalty kill, he's got it all (experience too).
I'm not saying Crosby is bad, he's definitely a top player in the league and in the race for the Hart and Art Ross every year, but I think Ovechkin will have a slightly better career (unfortunately already down 1-0 in cups and 2-0 in finals appearances) - Sniper, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I don't think they were booing Burke as much as they were Toronto (as it was in Montreal).
- str1fe, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2Crosby doesn't play a lick of defense either, to be fair. He is a better backchecker than Ovechkin is, though; I believe Ovi and Green were both in the top 5 in the league in giveaways. And Green was a Norris nominee. I didn't know you could get votes as the best defenseman in the league by scoring goals, but that's neither here nor there.
If I had to choose between Malkin, Crosby, and Ovechkin to build a team around, I'd pick Malkin any day. He has just as much scoring talent while being better defensively than both of the other two put together. While Ovechkin was close to leading the league in giveaways, Malkin was doing the same with takeaways. He also seems more mature than both of him - I picture him being a better locker room presence.
In all honestly though, I'd choose Datsyuk over any of them. He brings more two-way play, experience, and leadership. - spepin, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I wasn't sure if the Isles were going to go with Tavaraes or Hedman. They made a good choice though and hopefully this'll pay off for them, and if and when DiPietro gets back in form, maybe things will start to look up.
Still waiting and seeing if we're going to lose Heatley. I'd like to see him in Los Angeles (mostly because I'm a Kings fan at heart...) but also to see him out of Ottawa, because he's being a little bitch. - NoamChimpsky, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1So . . . the first round only had 23 picks did it? [FTA]
- Forbiddendonut, on 06/27/2009, -2/+3Pissed Crosby won is different then being upset wings lost
- TheMikey, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1I can drive in circles too. I just have better things to do for five hours than do laps.
- sgerwel1985, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1Other than the Pronger trade, there really wasn't much going on. I was expecting some serious movement today. Especially Heatley since ottawa is a little under a week away from giving Heatley his 4mil bonus. Which, if they can't find a team for him soon enough, will be a cap hit. And i'm sure the organization doesn't want that to happen.
Overall though, the draft went pretty well. The top 6 players went as expected, no curveballs in there. Minus the fact that detroit traded their first rounder. But ya figure, this isn't a new scenario for them. - dsoldier, on 06/28/2009, -0/+1Yea, the big question with DiPietro is "if" he doesn't get better, what do the Isles do with the rest of his 15 year deal? (Yea, that was a great idea) Which is why I think after getting a top forward and a D-Man (still don't know much about him though) they went and picked up two behemoth European Goalies (they're both 6'5") with their next two picks.
I think that says a lot about the DiPietro situation, and "if" he will ever be in top form. Looks like he'll be highest paid backup goalie in a few years, but hey, one can only hope he actually starts playing the way he was meant to.
Either way, I'm pumped for Tavares and can't wait to see the Isles finally have some offense! - ThraxyWaxy, on 06/27/2009, -2/+2I think Hedman will have the best career, just like I thought Ovechkin > Crosby.
- rheaume, on 06/27/2009, -2/+2Its a beautiful thing, now we just need Detroit and Jersey to suck ***** for a few years and the circle will be complete
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -1/+1Yeah, I hate that guy. A shrewd, intelligent lawyer. God knows how he got to be Commissioner...
- saltyjustice, on 06/27/2009, -3/+2hopefully tavares helps get the lighthouse project off the ground.
either way the hawks are taking the cup next season. - SaintStryfe, on 06/27/2009, -3/+2When the Canadians made their pick, that obviously made the crowd happy, The Versus announce team just HAD to say he had "Crosby-like" attributes.
::Grumble:: - ThraxyWaxy, on 06/27/2009, -2/+1How about Burke getting booed too, boo leafs lol.
- Forbiddendonut, on 06/27/2009, -2/+1"gets frustrated when things don't go his way like crosby"
aka hes a cry baby - Forbiddendonut, on 06/27/2009, -9/+1I'm just happy the hockey community is focused on something different then the bs cup winners
- SaintStryfe, on 06/27/2009, -9/+1I cannot wait to see how the B-n-Ters manage to screw this kid up.
/potvin sucks - GraceHead, on 06/27/2009, -13/+3What does this have to do with Michael Jackson?
- IceDogg, on 06/27/2009, -13/+1Who is this guy?
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 06/27/2009, -15/+1Feh...Canadians.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 06/27/2009, -20/+1It's been popular for minutes than it has comments. I ask again, who cares?
