- DeFex, on 08/13/2008, -3/+42The only thing that anyone can know for sure about the next season is that the leafs will suck.
- DarkSpoon, on 08/12/2008, -1/+27Gimme one more please. Just dont pull a Favre/Jordan please.
- craftyshrew, on 08/13/2008, -3/+23Dugg for NHL on the front page...glitch or not.
Go Flames Go! - funkedup, on 08/13/2008, -0/+16I hope Sakic stays around, but his comment on how "this has been a very difficult decision" makes me think hes going to hang them up. He truly is a great leader and player. I hope he plays another season...and this is coming from a Red Wings fan.
- dangerdooms, on 08/13/2008, -1/+16The only thing that anyone can know for sure about hockey is that the leafs will always suck.
- thefandango, on 08/13/2008, -0/+15good god it's a miracle! and in the OFFSEASON?
Also, bonus points for it being about sakic and not sundin: appearantly sitting on the fence is the national pastime in sweden. - BoneheadFarker, on 08/13/2008, -1/+11What the ***** are you talking about??? The leafs are bringing home the cup this year. They've got the best offence, the best defence, and the best goalie in the league. Their coach is the best in the league. Their uniforms are the best in the league. Don't doubt...JUST BELIEVE! I BELIEVE! GO LEAFS GO!!!
Now where's my Prozac and Xanax... - BluesFan, on 08/13/2008, -0/+9Sakic is a classy guy and a good role model for kids. Please people don't disrespect a good man at the end of his career.
- smashingmonkey, on 08/13/2008, -0/+8This gives new meaning to what Mike Haynes yells after those late 3rd period goals: "Who else but Joe Sakic?!"
Please come back... - thefandango, on 08/13/2008, -0/+8God i can't wait until he gets penalties and the color commentary announces it:
"And finger's in the box for 5 minutes....."
"Finger's been in and out of the box all night!" - poploserdigg, on 08/13/2008, -1/+9well at least this wasnt BREAKING news.
- sinurgy, on 08/13/2008, -0/+7Two words...Jeff Finger
- roguepirate, on 08/13/2008, -1/+7I'll digg when Sakic actually makes a decision.
- smashingmonkey, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6You suck at trolling.
- twishart, on 08/13/2008, -4/+10I didn't know Sakic was considering retirement, so I didn't really understand the headline.
"In related news, Lidstrom ordered the salmon." - FrankTheTank17, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6At least 160 people that brought this article to the home page. Next question please.
- HarrisonBn, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6haha this is sweet on the fp.
SUPER JOE! - jamwil87, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5I wish I could digg you lots.
- ArchieAndrews, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5I understand.
- peticsu, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7watch out Avs, Bertuzzi is in Calgary
- elemenohpe, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7Losers since 67!
- jazzguitar18, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4hah well this answers my question as to if Joe Sakic retiring would even make the first page on digg. I love you super joe!
- bigstinky, on 08/13/2008, -1/+5I am a Red Wing fan, but Joe Sakic has earned my utmost respect as a hockey fan. I never hated him during those glory years of the war between the Wings and Ave's. He has been a class act his entire career, and I think he deserves to take his time. Scott Nedermeyer did it with Anaheim...Take time to heal, and strengthen, then rejoin before the playoffs.
Whatever he does, I hope he doesn't pull a Favre and retire just to come back. Good to see hockey, no matter how trivial see the front page.
- peticsu, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4with Kubina around, and McCabes contract...thats pretty much a given
- Jethris, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4Maybe, but the trade for Patrick Roy was what put the Quebec/Colorado franchise on top. From the day they came to Denver, to the day that hockey died (missing season), Colorado was a perennial Cup contender.
- marcus1060, on 08/13/2008, -1/+5Canucks should give him the offer they gave Sundin and try to convince him to come and play for his hometown team...
Sure it'd never work, but if it did! - darthsand, on 08/13/2008, -8/+12go avs go!
- Jeffler, on 08/13/2008, -1/+5To those saying this is like Sundin - Joe has won everything, is older, and isn't considering leaving the Avs. ***** Mats, take all the time you want Burnaby Joe. (But please come back! WE NEED YOU FOR VANCOUVER 2010!)
- Jeffler, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3Haven't you guys watch the Love Guru? The critics are lying, the Leafs and Kings will be in the cup finals, not tanking for the 1st overall pick!
- ghank, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?
They both look good until they hit the ice. - smashingmonkey, on 08/13/2008, -2/+5Sorry, but I had to bury you because that would make me cry.
- Jeffler, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3You probably dugg all 3000 articles of the Favre Saga...
- CMuffa, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4No he should retire first to make it official. Then wait 20 seconds and tell ESPN that he wants to play again. This way we can hear the name Joe Sakic 4,384,308 times before someone decides what to do with him.
- Jeffler, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3Inaccurate. He played quite well the season after.
He hasn't played well since his back injury. - Tamant, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4Hockey on the front page is good but wtf? Tell me when he makes a decision, or when Sundin chooses a team finally.
- Blax, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3Sakic is still one of the best. If he doesn't want to retire, let him keep playing. He won't do any harm. :)
- Jethris, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3Super Joe is still pretty darn good, if not the same as he was 10 years ago, with a young Forsberg on the same line. Those were the days.
- Jethris, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2Hockey fans knew he was.
- pp7k, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2No point responding to stupid trolls. Best to just bury and move on.
- riptor666, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2He might as well play another season there's nothing left in life for a hockey player after retirement. Why do you think Jordan came back out of retirement?
- cutchyacokov, on 08/13/2008, -2/+4Give us our Nordiques back! They would have won the cup in Quebec the year before they went to Colorado, if it hadn't been for the lockout. If that had happened, they would probably still be in Quebec. *grumble* *grumble*
- CLAWC, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2Go Joe! =)
- tim04, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2what do you watch buddy? baseball? real man sport right there...hit a ball...run in a circle...repeat.
highlights are always fascinating too. omg! you will not believe how FAR the ball went this time! - jazzguitar18, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2I actually liked Jeff Finger lol.
- atezun, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2As an Avalanche fan I feel required to curse you, but I'd be lying if I said the Wings weren't a talented group.
- Shakermaker, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2Wow!
What a news flash! Sakic is getting ready to make a decision? Within the next couple weeks?
Um...training camp is within two weeks. So, this is like saying that it might get dark at night. - pp7k, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2Yaaaawwwwnnnn. Your lame trolling makes me sleepy.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2/buried for being a fan of a team named after a Disney movie
(seriously, though, Disney?)
Go CAPS! - voteforgrant, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2If Sakic retires, The Avalanche don't have much chance next season. Yes, big names like Adam Foote and newcomer Darcy Tucker will be part of the roster, but you have to take a look at the losses. The departure of a captain for ANY team, especially a name like Sakic, will take at least a few years to come back from. While this may not be big news for the rest of the world, it's BIG news for the NHL and especially the Colorado Avalanche. Fans in Denver are bracing for the end of an era that will solidify the once dynastic Avs in the state of rebuilding.
