ruptured testacle = cringe x 10 - Bakie, on 04/12/2008, -3/+33Now that is putting you're balls on the line.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Philadelphia Flyers left wing Patrick Thoresen was released from the hospital Saturday after tests revealed no serious injury from a shot that hit him in the groin area.
Thoresen lay writhing in pain after blocking Mike Green's shot in the third period Friday night of a 5-4 loss to the Washington Capitals. The 24-year-old forward was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where two ultrasound tests turned up negative.
"They were checking to see if there was a rupture. There was none," general manager Paul Holmgren said. "We're thankful it's not more serious than it is. I'm sure he's sore, but I wouldn't be surprised if he played tomorrow." - crowbar77, on 04/12/2008, -2/+26Brings playoff sacrifice to a whole new level.
- jontalisman, on 04/12/2008, -3/+26Time to retire while he still has one good nut left. (Presumably...)
- stellarceltic, on 04/12/2008, -3/+24Buried as innacurate. ESPN has already reported that there was no physical damage.

- justinx0r, on 04/12/2008, -1/+10When I was watching the Caps game last night it just looked like it hit his thigh. That really sucks for him I hope he gets better soon. At least he has two kids and a wife already...
- >mark, on 04/12/2008, -1/+9That is how hockey is. They only blow the whistle when it is obvious that something is seriously wrong. In this case it's kinda hard to tell that the puck hit him in the cherry, usually blocking a shot just means a bad bruise if it hits you wrong.
- LyKwId, on 04/12/2008, -0/+7it seems like he's fine....he may come back to play game 2
anybody that says hockey players aren't tough needs to take a shot to the groin... then play the next game - cheappop, on 04/12/2008, -1/+7The cup... it does nothing.
- Akaji, on 04/12/2008, -2/+8Your...
- Blackie24, on 04/12/2008, -0/+6"Shot to the NUTZ and Mike Green's to blame, you give the Cap-itals a BAD name!" - Bon Jovi reportedly telling a reporter immediately following the game.
- iheartrendering, on 04/12/2008, -1/+7Yeah I thought it hit his thigh too. I felt bad for him since his block meant nothing and the Caps still scored. But now hearing that he will be one ball short really makes me feel bad for him.
- killbert24, on 04/12/2008, -4/+9Hey... as long as you still have one testicle you're okay. If Lance Armstrong can do it, then this man can too. Good luck Patrick!
- quacker912, on 04/12/2008, -0/+5He was, the shot broke it.
- cli006, on 04/12/2008, -1/+5My nuts have just shriveled up into my stomach, they are too terrified to come out after watching the video.
- TheSabre, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4Yea, because all the Capitals players know what's going on in the opposing teams' pants for the whole game. When something isn't right, they immediately stop play. Or, you know, maybe they just didn't know anything was wrong since blocking shots is routine.
- Coffeedemon, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4Right from the NHL Rulebook:
"# When a player is injured so that he cannot continue play or go to his bench, the play shall not be stopped until the injured player's Team has secured possession of the puck; if the player's Team is in possession of the puck at the time of injury, play shall be stopped immediately unless his Team is in a scoring position.
(NOTE) In the case where it is obvious that a player has sustained a serious injury, the Referee and/or Linesman may stop the play immediately."
So there was no blood and no head contact plus the player was still moving around. No stoppage until a Flyer player touches the puck. It would have been the same if it had been anyone else down. - krismanx, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4Not ridiculous in the least bit. Barring clearly serious incidents the whistle is not to be blown until the injured player's team has possession of the puck.
That being said you're right, there is absolutely bias in the league. ***** Pronger. - fatloui, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4unfortunately, they don't do a whole lot of good against big chunks of rubber moving at almost 100 mph
- bstew22, on 04/12/2008, -1/+5umm... you ever get hit in the nuts WITH a cup on? still hurts dude.
- ConAmoreEFuoco, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4Thankfully, his nut is not busted. I hope he can play game 2 and get beaten by the Caps again.
- hexx54, on 04/12/2008, -2/+6False, he's out of the hospital and his nuts are FINE!
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/04/12/flyers_t ... - hektur, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3I was watching SportsNet this morning and the commentater said:
"Its hard not to make jokes about Thoreson's testicles but this is a serious matter, he might be getting a nut removed" - quacker912, on 04/12/2008, -3/+6It's quite a shame that they didn't blow the play dead. If that was Ovechkin or Crosby on the ground the whistle would be blown immediately. Of course this lead to the Flyers loss because they scored off of his injury...ridiculous.
- quacker912, on 04/12/2008, -2/+5Thoresen is a warrior. He earned himself a spot on the Flyers roster and he is just a hard working guy. I honestly know with digg there will be plenty of jokes about this, but honestly give the man some respect...
- novenator, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3Hockey is the roughest sport out there! all the body checking while cruising along at 30 mph, getting slashed up by huge lumber sticks, and to top it all off, a hard, heavy, frozen puck that can be propelled over 100 mph. No wonder there are so many fights!
- ekravchenko, on 04/12/2008, -2/+5Here is the direct link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0719DxMOUY
- harryterry, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3you assumed wrong. lets see you take a slap shot to the nuts at 95mph+
- Jeffler, on 04/13/2008, -1/+4This kid probably was a house league goalie who got blown out.
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3Damn. I've got hit in the balls, but taking a slapshot and rupturing a testicle? Ouch doesn't go nearly far enough.
- Stormwern, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3poor balls, poor man
- Jerky1312, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3In his case, "losing one for the team."
- ConAmoreEFuoco, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3The shot broke his cup.
- Pake, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3It's the Stanley Cup playoffs where ever goal counts... You can't say you wouldn't be celebrating that much every time you gained a piece of ground on your own dream.
- Maksx, on 04/12/2008, -1/+4I hate how the dudes in intolerable pain and everyone continues, I mean yeah the game must go on but what if the poor bastard really in trouble?
- crowbar77, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3Players fake injuries all the time, from the shot it didnt look that serious and so they had to let the play continue.
- SeventhSon, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3The only thing that sucks more than a slapshot to the balls is a slapshot to the balls and you get scored on.
- PolarBearCa, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I thought the nutcracker would be more suited to figure skating.
- morpheus69, on 04/13/2008, -1/+3Unfortunately, arguing on the Internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still a retard. Captric will always be a retard...don't validate him by taking him seriously.
- brandonelliott, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2OH MY GOD I HATE THE FEELING WHEN YOU GET HIT IN THE NUTS AND FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO *****/THROW UP AND WANT TO DIE.. OH GOD..on the other hand id take the million dollar a year contract and the women for the trade of one of my nuts theres always the plasticle...
- sinurgy, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I still can't believe he's likely going to play the next game. Sure there is no *permanent* physical damage but goddamn that has to take the meaning of sore to a whole other level. For those don't know, it wasn't like he just got hit in the nuts by a puck (which is bad enough), he got hit the nuts by SLAP SHOT. That's a puck traveling at least 85mph!
Hockey players have the reputation of being the toughest athletes in sports but boy do they earn it!! - mecharabbit, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2time for someone to invent a kevlar cup
- Pete0430, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2I think this calls for a pay raise
- Samohtneas, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2People think they can understand what its like to take an insanely hard shot to the nuts when they haven't gotten one themselves. Sure, everyone here has had a nuttap or something. But not everyone can say they've taken a dropkick to the balls. It's seriously debilitating.
***** painful doesn't even begin to cover this. - morpheus69, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2Yeah, ***** Pronger...though the Stars seem to be doing a great job of that right now!
- Toronto86er, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2...and apparently may also play this weekend. Quite the turnaround.
- SeventhSon, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2He was.
