- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Did I just hear that right? You ranked baseball above of hockey? Baseball has got to be one of the slowest and most boring sports created. I am going to get dugg down by americans now, bye.
- anteyekon4myst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Its about freakin time they got rid of Clarke. Despite his experience in the NHL he was never able to realize the importance of goal tending. When the league shifted to a faster pace, he stuck with old Philly 1970's style goon sized players (Rathjie and Hatcher). I've watched several of the Flyers' games and they took the title of being the worst overall team from the Leafs. And I really dont like the Leafs (not just to piss people off, but for legitimate reasons too). Flyers need to dump, retool and invest heavily in scouting.
Aside: Hatcher should not be an NHL player. Even when he was with Dallas and Detroit it was like watching a Gorilla skate in molasses. - drimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I watch hockey religiously. I used to play in my younger days, but my love for the sport is founded in its fast pace and rough attitude. There are more people who enjoy hockey than you think, and just because you don't care for it, doesn't mean it is a bad sport. You simply have chosen not to enjoy a good hockey game.
- Jnetty99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hockey is number one for me. Baseball is second. Football is last for me and I barely watch it. I dislike basketball and anything that is college related.
So you see everyone has different likes and dislikes. - moto55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I do, but that's only because i don't like watching any of the other sports you listed. i like to play them just not watch. oh and I'm Canadian so there is that too.
- z4nd3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10in regards to the topic at hand....Clarke, as one of the dirtiest players and GMs ever...from his famous ankle breaking swing on Kharlamov, to his treatment of Lindros-Primeau, to his firing of the great Roger Neilson who had been diagnosed with Terminal cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once a prick always a prick,..........a big ***** you and close the door on your way out - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6RIP Nielson
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10No offense, but many Americans would be surprised that anyone watches soccer, too. I guess the bigger question is, are most americans ignorant naturally, or by choice?
- Drexel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hockey is number one for me. The main reason being that it's not a "popular" sport. It's a very niche sport, and when you find someone to talk hockey to it is a pleasant surprise. Where as almost everybody will talk football with you, because if you do not watch football you're not considered normal. Plus i came very late into the sport and once you become a fan, i believe your hooked for life. :)
- publishcron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I have never understood American fascination with college sports. What is the appeal?
- smoothmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dave Nonis is ROFLing this morning.
- nfph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The writing was on the wall for Clarkie, who let the game pass him by years ago. It's too bad that Hitch got wrapped up in this mess though, I still consider him one of the top 5 coaches in the league. But after my boys absolutely freakin humiliated the Cryers on national TV on the 17th, something bid had to happen.
And I frankly could give a crap if the meatheads understand hockey. Go watch football or NASCAR or whatever the hell. - vdubski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I watch hockey because it keeps you on edge while your watching a game. It's fast paced and full of action. Other sports are too stop and go for me. GO SABRES!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Basketball? You're joking right.
- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can understand ditching Clarke but seriously, Ken Hitchcock is one of the better coaches in the league and this has got to be one of the worse moves they could have made.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I play hockey in console games =)
- zacharychaos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6yeah... I guess we americans are running around trying to shoot each other with handguns while the hockey games are on. ;P
- Jnetty99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I see that being probably shifting as more of the Hispanic population increases and also reaches higher levels in society. Not Hispanic but the European community moving coming over to the U.S.
Soccer is very popular in high schools and colleges as a sport but the Media/TV doesnt see a big TV turnout... so no one watching no rating.
It probably be also good if the U.S. soccer would actually win to boost the sport. - starblazer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Karma... for signing another team RFA to a 1.9 mil deal when he's only worth about half that. It always come back to haunt you. Just great that it is coming back this fast.
- beatmix01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2are you kidding!?? they even beat my rangers the other night. crap- the blueshirts are in trouble.
- narkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah
I think Vancouver fans will have a field day with this one... - funksta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hear ya. Clarke is a classless goon. Let's hope he stays away from the game for awhile.
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahaha
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never watch soccer unless its the World Cup or Champions league final...
- publishcron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone but you.
Signed Canada and Scandinavia - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's about time Clarke ends his GM position, since the new regulations in the NHL, Clarke's Flyers haven't been able to keep up. They're used to playing American style hockey, just take your aggressive players and hit the other team to get the puck, instead of actually focusing on skill.
Leafs are looking pretty good, the only thing I'd worry about with them is the goaltending. - plamia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Beautiful! Not for me, definitely
- bloatedmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0publishcron - I have never understood American fascination with college sports. What is the appeal?
Think of American college sports along the lines of the Canadian junior hockey leagues. In the US the best young athletes in our big 2 sports (football and basketball) go play at college. NCAA championships = Memorial Cup championships. - publishcron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahhh, that makes more sense then. All I needed was to have it put into hockey related terms. Thanks for that.
I guess some people do get pretty jacked up about college hockey to. Frozen Four is a big tournament, and more players are taking the college route now. Most players still prefer to play junior hockey because they get to play more games. The can also go to school after they are done playing. I know that in the WHL players get a year of school paid for every year they play in the 'Dub. So 4 years in the WHL can get you through university if you don't end up going pro.
If you have a chance to watch the Memorial Cup or the World Junior Hockey Championships, I highly suggest watching. Intense. - publishcron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hitchcock can't skate. How can you respect a coach that can't skate?
- surfff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2 I absolutely love how OBLIVIOUS some of the people on digg are when it comes to sports.
seriously. dont post unless u know a thing or 2 about sports. - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I have never understood American fascination with college sports. What is the appeal?
I think the players are younger and play more for the love of the game than the money as they do in the pro leagues - BMW7Series, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Hockey is pretty good, but it's not as good as it used to be. I was a big fan in the 1990's, sure it wasnt as good as the 70's and 80's but I wasnt even born then :) The Avalanche/Red Wings rivalry was amazing.
- kuyakew, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1its hockey
who the ***** cares? - zacharychaos, on 10/12/2007, -35/+1Does anyone watch hockey? I'm not trying to be mean, but... between football, baseball, basketball, college AND pro,
and the World Cup and Olympics...
who has time for hockey?
