- chthonical, on 10/13/2009, -4/+22***** you Chelios!
- serif69, on 10/13/2009, -0/+15Dugg for hockey on the FP.
- chthonical, on 10/13/2009, -0/+8No disrespect to the guy in question. In fact those who have seen the Crank films know this is a compliment.
- JoeHague, on 10/13/2009, -1/+9I think most NHL teams have more interest in Chev Chelios/
- Speedy7, on 10/13/2009, -0/+7I'm south east asian, so that really isn't an issue.
- SooperSonic, on 10/13/2009, -0/+7Will they be serving Cheli's Chili at the Allstate Arena concessions?
- inactive, on 10/13/2009, -0/+6It certainly is.
I look at baseball, the most popular "sport" here. If you can be a fat ass and still compete, then your sport sucks. Hockey is where the real athletes are. - briLo, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5Let's face it, for a guy in his mid 40's to be playing professional hockey at any level is pretty amazing. Now he's playing against kids more than half his age.........
I tip my hat to you Chelios.....f'ing amazing. - Maynza, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5came here to post that
- Brak710101, on 10/13/2009, -1/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfvTLPjzq9M
One of the more exciting games from last year. I understand the NHL isn't that big international, or even in some of the US, but as someone who has played pretty much every sport, I'd have to say hockey is the most exciting team sport out there. The speed and skill is just unbeatable. - cmallinson, on 10/13/2009, -0/+4Some guys just love to play. I agree that it's tough to see such a great player leave the league like this, but it's also nice to see somebody playing for the love of the game. Mike Keane is a player from the same era, and is almost as old. He is still playing with the Manitoba Moose, with guys half of his age. He joked a while back that he has Stanley Cup rings older than his teammates. He gets to play a game he loves in his home city, and be a kind of a coach at the same time. I say good for them both.
- alphaswift, on 10/13/2009, -2/+6I hate to see former greats do stuff like this. The guy played for 20+ years...he should be happy he played as long as he did and accept that people get old. What he should do is look for a coaching or consulting job so he can stay in the game and pass on his experience.
- randyzaia, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3I love how the article assumes that we know who "the Wolves" are.
- inactive, on 10/13/2009, -2/+5Go to youtube and do it yourself.
Also, my cousins who live in the UK are fans of NHL teams, but you have no idea what it is?
I'm not sure if you are a passive troll or just not informed. - DiggityCarl, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2The Bruins could actually really use Chelios this year. Sign him up!
- inactive, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1no
- vagrantwade, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1He's have better luck attracting an NHL team if he wasn't almost 50 YEARS OLD.
- jgopp, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1He just loves to play hockey and stay fit. FSN Detroit did a special about his off season routines. Dude never stops being active, he rides his bike something like 2 hours a day and spends most of the rest of his days boggie/surf boarding/swimming. He said he usually has a good 4-6 hour daily workout. That is something I admire and wish I could do myself today.
- Speedy7, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Awesome. I think I might have seen this one.
One big fight some time ago, I forgot the details. - zacbro, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1What just happened to me?
- kuett, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1every nhl team should sign him since he is a good leader and can level up the chemistry level of any team , plus boost the moral on the ice and off the ice at any time, any day
- Chadwick2012, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1"I'd like to know what NHL is. Can someone point me to any video showcasing the better skills in the game?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1-25s4uwFQ - vagrantwade, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1He's = He'd where I come from!
- serif69, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Better Believe it.
- chriskzoo, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2I don't see why Cheli is trying to prove anything - he's what, 46? Is there something wrong with just retiring and enjoying your life - how bad could home life be? He's got restaurants, a house in Malibu, and tons of famous friends - I'm sure he could fill his life in more fulfilling ways.
- buzaman, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Good for Cheli! Great defensemen and an amazing athlete!
Go Wings! - zacbro, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Right, so he would play for the Wolves, an AHL team, in hopes of attracting the attention of an NHL team....
Sound it out. - etx313, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1Gonna miss Cheli!
- tastypastry, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1Hell yeah. Go Wolves!
- cornfed42, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1old geezer.. hang up the skates already
- Red1000, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1I can't imagine an NHL team picking him up. He played in 35 NHL games last year without recording a single point and he's 47 years old.
- DiggityCarl, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Well said! Thanks for the laugh. Actually, if you do a search on You Tube for "Bobby Orr" you'll see fantastic examples of hockey as it's played in the states.
- mactackle52, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2Don't start this guy off on the wrong foot by trying to say that Lemieux is better than Gretzky.
- catalysis, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHJs3VqUpuU
- KyleJorgy, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1@ santaliqueur Getzlaf is the best all around player playing today. You could make a case for datsyuk and oveckhin. but datsyuk lacks the pim and oveckhin has no cup to his name yet.
@mactackle52 lemieux could have been the best if it were not for injuries. Now i think the greatest player ever is patrick roy - str1fe, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1He loves the game and wants to keep playing. He'll bow out when his body tells him to...for now, he says his body is still up to playing, so as far as I'm concerned he can keep at it.
- inactive, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Wendy Gretzky? The guy who had all stars around him his entire career, and basically had a no-hit clause his entire career?
Also, until Lemieux came back from retirement, he had more points per game than Gretzky had. Gretzky's injury free career, Lemieux's injury plagued career. Lemieux no question. - str1fe, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1As a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan and a fan of my home Atlanta Thrashers as well, I love that Cheli still wants to play. I'm a huge fan of his, but in reality, it was time for him to bow out. He didn't really have a place in Detroit's system anymore, but I'm glad to see him with the Wolves. They're Atlanta's minor league affiliate, and I know our defense prospects will benefit heavily from a presence like his on the team. It's great that he gets to play for his home town too, even if it's not in the big leagues. I'm glad to see him still playing, I hope I'm half as ambitious when I'm his age. Go Cheli!
- str1fe, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1He's *not* trying to prove anything. He just wants to play.
- str1fe, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Heh, now Cheli can joke the same. I just love that he won a Stanley Cup with Montreal before Sidney Crosby was born.
- Kate1240, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1OMG!! I totally agree!
- Speedy7, on 10/13/2009, -2/+2It doesn't have much coverage here, and I don't have any US cousins (which obvious lessens exposure).
Oh and you could have at least mentioned the names of some star players.
If you want footy info, I'd forward you to a Zidane or Pele/Maradona video. - inactive, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1My UK cousins are at least 15 years younger than me, and I've never met them.
The biggest stars of today are Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kovalchuk. Those are the top scoring forwards currently, the past few years.
Past greats are Lemieux (best player of all time in my opinion), Gretzky (best stats and most records held), Jagr, Orr (best defenseman), Ray Bourque, Lafleur, Bossy, Yzerman, Sakic. I'm leaving out lots of deserving players, but those are the highlights. Youtube those players, and you'll have an idea of what world class hockey players are capable of. - Snoogs, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1Hockey is the easiest sport to continue into older ages... There's very little joint wear since there's no running, you don't have to get super physical if you don't want to, and your skill and finesse has much more value than speed and power over any other sport.
Look at Favre too... Everyone passed him off as 'too old', and he's on track to make a brilliant run, as much as I despise the guy. - Sal33n, on 10/13/2009, -0/+0http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_enUS336US ...
- Brak710101, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1Loved to see him play, but I think he's in denial that he needs to stop being a player at this age. He's a veteran of 25 years and 47 years old, it's time to move on. He doesn't have to leave hockey, I just don't think he should be a player anymore.
- s2kadom, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1This guy doesn't know how to retire ....
- shiftyg2, on 10/15/2009, -0/+0***** it. If a team is willing to write him a check, I say let the j' dog play. God knows he's earned the right.
- flamesrule, on 10/13/2009, -2/+0leaders have to lead on the ice, not just on the bench or in the locker room, that's why they have a coach. He needs to give it up.
- DiggityCarl, on 10/13/2009, -6/+4"In Britain, hockey isn't really that big."
Neither is your dick. -
