- aufte, on 12/29/2008, -5/+72We just kicks ass at hockey and everybody else just has to deal.
- zoziw, on 12/29/2008, -1/+53Not a happy victory, I'm glad Canada won but I really felt for the kids on the Kazakh team.
- cquilliam, on 12/29/2008, -1/+51Ignoring the scoreboard, I thought the Kazakhs played as good of a game as they could, they were pretty good in their own end, unfortunatly they just couldn't mount any sort of offense. Their shot total after the 1st period was only 2 shots, and from what I remember, both shots were from outside the blue-line.
You have to give Canada some credit for not celebrating each and every goal, even when Benn got his hat trick, not even so much as a smile on his face.
Games like this one just shouldn't happen, the IIHF needs to abandon the way they determine tie-breakers so blow-outs like this don't happen, even though it seemed that Canada started to let up about half way through the second when the Kazakhs were really getting tired. - UserName88, on 12/29/2008, -10/+56This tournament is to Canadians what March Madness is to Americans.
- aufte, on 12/29/2008, -3/+39We already have better versions of both. :)
- nickycakes, on 12/29/2008, -4/+39GREAT SUCCESS!
- LaZyLion, on 12/29/2008, -7/+36Canada! ***** yeah!
- TMTurtle, on 12/29/2008, -3/+32This thread's title is a tad offputting.
- youbequiet, on 12/29/2008, -2/+27Canada plays US on New Years Eve. Should be good.
- jholmes8, on 12/29/2008, -1/+26Not sure why your getting Dugg down, thats 100% true for the majority of Canadians. Even people I know that don't like hockey, they don't even follow the Canadian olympic hockey team, but everyone watches the world jr's on the Christmas holidays. Its a family and friends tradition of mine and most people I know.
- t71E, on 12/29/2008, -1/+21Canada uses Kazakh's *what* as Target Practice?
- WillisDickfit, on 12/29/2008, -3/+23I guess they'll just have to settle for their superior potassium...
- Schmidtopolis, on 12/29/2008, -0/+20They had to get as many goals as possible. If there is a tie for first in the tournament, it goes to whoever has the most goals. It's kinda ***** like that, but I'm sure we'll see it change soon.
- Cannon49, on 12/29/2008, -0/+19They should drop 2 teams from the tournament. 8 instead of 10 would get rid of Kazakhstan and say Lativa. I mean honestly nobody wants to see a 15-0 drubbing like that. It does neither country any good.
- iMiXiMi, on 12/29/2008, -2/+20Canada is Hockey
- AmazingSteve, on 12/29/2008, -0/+17At least they can go home with the knowledge that their country produces superior potassium.
- roxgod666, on 12/29/2008, -6/+23I don't give a ***** about March Madness.
- Archer007, on 12/29/2008, -1/+17No one beats Canada at hockey.
- aliHG, on 12/29/2008, -2/+18The IIHF needs to remove goal differentials from the tiebreaker equation. Having elite teams whale on teams like France and Kazakhstan doesn't help hockey. :/
- andypop481, on 12/29/2008, -2/+17Canada trade inferior potassium for make excellent hockey team.
- CyberBeast, on 12/29/2008, -0/+14No more potassium to Kanada!!!
BORAT FOREVER!!! - cwk1337, on 12/29/2008, -1/+14The number of goals scored can later be used to determine the 1st ranking team, should a tie occur. It sucks, but Canada beat them in a respectful manner. They stopped celebrating after the first 3 or 4 goals.
- DeadSkinMask, on 12/29/2008, -0/+13Like Tyson eating an infant.
Fixed. - feliks2, on 12/29/2008, -2/+15Don't be talking ***** about Latvia.
- whatthefu, on 12/29/2008, -5/+16Oh god I hope there are no ***** Borat jokes.
- Jeffler, on 12/29/2008, -2/+12Especially Yankov - he was ***** amazing in net, even if he let in 9.
- iMiXiMi, on 12/29/2008, -1/+11Touché
- youbequiet, on 12/29/2008, -8/+18and not everyone in Canada cares about this.
- neoform, on 12/29/2008, -0/+7Their loss mean they will be execute.
- bam359, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8@thehoodie
So were the Canadian players. When Benn scored his hat-trick , there was very little celebration. After about the 4th or 5th goal, there was very little flaunting.
They really need to change the format of the tournament. The TSN commentators had a few good ideas:
- Either eliminate the point differential all together, or limit it to 5 points a game.
- Limit the tournament to the 'A' teams, and have a 'B', and possibly 'C' sides.
Who can blame that Kazakh kid for flipping that ref the bird, it must have been incredibly frustrating to play that game. - emocean, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8So it would be more sportsmanlike to just keep passing the puck around ala the Harlem Globetrotters to prevent the other team from scoring??
:: - Jeffler, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8Yeah, but the Latvian's have the best fans. Whenever there's a hockey tournament in Canada, I swear the entire nation flies over to cheer on the team. They know they suck, but they outcheer any fanbase. EVEN THE CANADIANS. Its insane, really.
- thehoodie, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8The fans were very classy - we cheered for every save he made. But yes, I agree, he was very good, and has a great glove hand.
- Jeffler, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8Yep, and its the Canadians who are burying you. Nobody's really taking pride in wailing on the Kazakh's, they tried there best and put out more effort than you'll see from most teams.
- DP84, on 12/29/2008, -4/+11Like Tyson fighting an infant.
- nadinetetine, on 12/29/2008, -0/+7The worst part of all of this was a local tv anchor here in montreal that said that it was a great game...STFU a 15-0 game isn't a good game...I feel sad for the kids of the glorious nation of Kazakhstan(crappy Borat reference)... I don't know why the IIHF let this happened...I mean you would never see brazil vs canada in a soccer game, they'd simply beat the s*it out of us
Sorry for my broken english french-canadian here...yeah go on with your frog's jokes hehe - holzy44, on 12/29/2008, -2/+8you cant stop the boys from canada. strong western influence is unstoppable. the drive for 5 is alive
- leonwho, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6My cousin is number four hockey player in all of Kazakhstan. Nice!
- youbequiet, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6Canada has more than enough talent to send one team from the east and one from the west.
- jamwil87, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6The IIHF uses goal differential in the event of a tie breaker. So it is necessary to be relentless like this. It's not right, but it's the way it is, and the reason why Canada did not let up.
- Pantzaroff, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5I don't know why people are saying they hope this doesn't affect Kazakhastan. It's an international competition... not little league. They both played their best. If they made it to the competition without realizing the possibilities then they surely know now.
- barc0001, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5I know. It's like listening to Americans during the Olympics...
- holzy44, on 12/29/2008, -1/+6yeah and a little bit of an understatment. i dont even score that much in target practice
sincerely
todd burtuzzi - bbhh, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5here's an interesting read from cbc news about why this happens and why the IIHF wants to keep it a 10 team tournament.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008/12/28/c ...
basically they want to keep growing the game in other countries and it would always be the same 8 teams if they dropped 2. - youbequiet, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5What they should do, as has been suggested, is only count 5 goals maximum toward the goal differential.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5haha how is that bigger news. You beat the czechs that Canada destroyed 8-1. You hung on for dear life. Anyways best of luck and see you on new years eve
- AmazingSteve, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5YOU'RE A HOOKER!!!!!!
- jholmes8, on 12/29/2008, -2/+7Oooooooooh Canada! The drive for 5 is looking good so far....
- Dudemeyster, on 12/29/2008, -0/+4It was the second game for both teams.
- bam359, on 12/29/2008, -1/+5Don't forget that 8 players that could qualify for this team (are young enough), that are already in the NHL, didn't join the teem. This is basically the b-team.
