- jaybol, on 11/04/2009, -2/+25Seriously how could they give them the shot before the Toronto Maple Leafs?
- kanimara, on 11/04/2009, -0/+17Fact: Even homeless people are a higher priority in getting shots than anyone that plays for the Maple Leafs.
- Brak710101, on 11/04/2009, -12/+27Considering how often they travel, how many people they come across, and how much money they bring into the city... I'd think they should get it first.
They're really the type of people that would spread something very quickly. - admanimal, on 11/04/2009, -4/+18Thousands of people had to wait in line for hours because 20-30 doses of a vaccine were diverted to a hockey team? Really?
- DiggMeUpPlz, on 11/04/2009, -5/+16Before health care workers or children...???
- xXdredgXx, on 11/04/2009, -4/+15as an Edmonton oilers fan I hope they all catch the swine flu.and die
But as a human being I hope they really don't get it. - Xtortion08, on 11/04/2009, -1/+12A mild form of the regular flue.... EVERYONE PANIC!!!
- cmallinson, on 11/04/2009, -1/+11Yeah, you keep believing that.
- guy whose son has had 32 operations in Canada and hundreds of specialist appointment, has never paid a dime, and never waited a single day for anything.
P.S. We got our swine flu shot in a five minute appointment with our family doctor. - manlyandy, on 11/04/2009, -1/+10Just like everywhere else?
- elliotys, on 11/04/2009, -4/+13So what.
- dsenman, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Dugg for being submitted by " HabsChick"
- eadnams, on 11/04/2009, -1/+6Media sensationalism with regards to H1N1? Highly doubtful.
/s - DiggMeUpPlz, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Win more games...???
- jaybol, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5What about this guy? Surely he deserves a flu shot http://imgur.com/ZQDJw.jpg
- stancey, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4Eh. As a Calgarian, I'm ok with them getting their shots with the amount of travel they do, and the fact that other players in the league have been diagnosed with H1N1. What I'm not ok with is how the Alberta government handled this. Stupid that (a) they didn't let those that were high risk get their shots first, (b) didn't set up more clinics (initially they had 4 for a city of over 1 million), and (c) because of this poor planning those that were high risk were unable to get their shots.
- Xtortion08, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4Yet another idiot that has no idea what health care is like outside of the US.
- DiggMeUpPlz, on 11/04/2009, -3/+7Boo......
- bobburn1, on 11/04/2009, -1/+5Because they're more important than you?
- eadnams, on 11/04/2009, -2/+6Don't care, more people have died of leprosy this year so far.
Had swine flu already, no big deal, pretty tame... - stuffradio, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3urns
- sunnycuts, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3For those not familiar with the current team here is a vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9eF6DVI0tk - iamsmooth, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4I live in Calgary, but I'm not planning on getting the shot until near December when stupid people stop worrying so much.
Randy Marsh said it best: "I have SARS. There's only a 98% chance I'll survive." Different ailment, same concept. Stop worrying, people. - Barackalypse, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4Jeez, you guys live in the same Province, save the hatred for Toronto or Montreal.
- Mikey129, on 11/04/2009, -2/+5The Calgary Flames travel to other cities, They would catch and/or spread the swine flu like a bee pollinates a flower, I agree with what was done.
- pinchduck, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3We're talking Canada here, where health care is free, evolution isn't controversial, and Jenny McCarthy is just another stripper.
- thisthatwhat, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Very true. The homeless was the first group of people in Alberta to get the shots. Jumped all lines.
- juliusthecat, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Never had a flu shot - never gonna get a flu shot - never get the flu (hmm wonder if it is because I am careful and do stuff like wash my hands all the time).
"Swine flu is presumptively diagnosed clinically by the patient's history of association with people known to have the disease and their symptoms listed above. Usually, a quick test (for example, nasopharyngeal swab sample) is done to see if the patient is infected with influenza A or B virus. Most of the tests can distinguish between A and B types. The test can be negative (no flu infection) or positive for type A and B. If the test is positive for type B, the flu is not likely to be swine flu (H1N1). If it is positive for type A, the person could have a conventional flu strain or swine flu (H1N1). However, the accuracy of these tests has been challenged, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not completed their comparative studies of these tests."

So in other words - even if your doctor says you have swine flu - what he really meant is you can have swine flu or type A. Then he tells you swine flu because that is the 'in' sickness right now. People are as stupid now as ever. But don't let that stand in the way of panic and media sensationalization. YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE FROM SWINE FLU ZOMG PANIC !!!!!!!!!! - etx313, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Well everyone knows Hockey Player > Non Hockey Player.
- stancey, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Health care workers have been able to get their shots in the hospital...
- Brak710101, on 11/04/2009, -2/+4All the article says is "Alberta's opposition parties say professional hockey players shouldn't be getting the vaccine ahead of cancer patients and pregnant women." Doesn't say heath care workers or children.
- cmallinson, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Well, we've waited for surgery a couple of times (usually a couple of hours if a more critical patient arrives in a helicopter), but we've never been on a waiting list. Ever. Often surgeries or major appointments are scheduled around school hours, or other appointments, or simply at our convenience.
I see national health care opponents constantly talk about wait lists in Canada. Sure there are some waiting periods for some procedures in Canada, but for critical care, and specifically for children, our care is spectacular in my opinion. - hakkola, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Thousands of people in Calgary waited in line that didn't need the shot, they even suspended vaccinations for a day because people who didn't need it were causing line-ups.
I see no problem with the Flames getting vaccinations. - POOPYpoo, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2win.
- Xtortion08, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Have you seen what the survivor's look like?
http://lolblips.dailyradar.com/story/swine_flu_sur ...
TERRIFYING!!! - partysan, on 11/04/2009, -2/+4***** the calgary flames
What's the best way to infect the flames?
Give the flu to Sean Avery and wait for Phaneuf to take care of the rest. - eadnams, on 11/04/2009, -3/+5@crosaks:
It is obvious you know little-to-nothing about Alberta. - Cyclist110, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2Nope, I save all my hatred for the Oilers and the Canucks.
- josh17, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Yeah, they need all the help they can get.
- AmazingSteve, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2Failing troll has failed. You're not going to convince people that have lived under public health care for over 40 years that it's a bad thing. You can go now.
- aderek, on 11/04/2009, -2/+3I just don't want to have to waste time being sick.
- cdtoad, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Cleveland Browns did too yet pregnant women & children are dying in Ohio!
- eadnams, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I'm aware, I live here-- I mean when they are available, they are only going to high risk individuals, as it should have been form the beginning. As I've said in other threads, this H1N1 thing is a joke.
Leprosy has claimed more lives this year, and no ones panicking about that. - Canadian007, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1How about all of the other people who constantly have to travel like business people, senior government bureaucrats, politicians etc? If we provide evidence that we have to travel often, will that allow us to get the shot earlier?

That's a tough schedule, puts them in contact with a lot of potentially sick people, plus high levels of physical exertion, I'd say they're pretty high risk.
Thousands of people in Calgary waited in line that didn't need the shot, they even suspended vaccinations for a day because people who didn't need it were causing line-ups.
I see no problem with the Flames getting vaccinations. - desertDenizen, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Here's what's really going on with H1N1, a bit long (9 parts) but very interesting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq2YVnwEnBw - DiggMeUpPlz, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1their families got the shots too....
- legendxx, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Granted. Like I said I know the point you were trying to make, which I don't disagree with, but it irks me when arguments get embellished in such a manner.
- josh17, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Thirty more people to fight off when the vaccine mutates them into zombies, big deal.
- POOPYpoo, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1*****.
- lnxfi, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I kind of want to get the Swine Flu. I'll take the odds on the death thing. 1 week off work and 1 month of 'accidentally' coughing on people's lunches that I want to eat... =)
