- funkedup, on 03/15/2009, -0/+16What don't people like about hockey? Hmm....
Surely, its not because it isn't a tough sport. Hockey is the only sport left with any integrity. Look at Football and Baseball, both are starting to become more and more of a joke. Football is ruined by a bunch of thugs who think that they're invincible and on top of the world. Plaxico, TO, and Vick are just some examples. Baseball just makes me laugh. Everyone is juicing up and cheating....how many hockey players do this? Even A-Rod, the face of baseball is guilty. We also have Clemens, Bonds, and cocky arrogant pricks like Ramirez. Basketball is composed of a bunch of wanna-be tough gangsters who have no class. Add the fact the NHL attendance is higher this year than NBA...
I'm sorry you dislike a sport with integrity, balls, excitement, and that you can't keep up with the fast pace. Why don't you go watch NASCAR? - frontaxle, on 03/15/2009, -1/+16Quebec, you make some good goalies. and syrup.
- harvinator24, on 03/15/2009, -3/+14***** you hockey is the best sport in the known world.
Go Marty!!! - NEWNHLISLAME, on 03/15/2009, -0/+9Hockey is for real men who can grow beards!
- CityzenInsane, on 03/15/2009, -0/+9I still think he would have beat Roy's record regardless (this coming from a lifelong AVS fan)...
- anteyekon4myst, on 03/15/2009, -1/+10More hockey on digg. It would be cool if there was a fantasy sports section...with an RSS feed
- dyslexicsUNTIED, on 03/15/2009, -1/+9I was there for history. What amazing support from the Canadiens fans
- godzillaWax, on 03/15/2009, -1/+9For all the talk of asterisks on Marty's record and the effect of shootout wins:
- Roy didn't have a whole year of his career taken away from lockout. Marty did.
- The rules were not changed for Roy because of how good he was. They were for Marty (new trapezoid behind the net).
There's no doubt there both among the best ever, but this garbage (thankfully from a very small minority) that Brodeur's achievements deserve an asterisk is nonsense. - AdamaObama, on 03/15/2009, -3/+10Hockey > Baseball > Football > Lacrosse > Cricket > Water Polo > Polo > Basketball
Hands down. - avirk86, on 03/15/2009, -0/+7By the time Brodeur retires he will be around 550-600 wins. Take out all the shootout wins and he still would have beat Roy
- Brak710101, on 03/15/2009, -0/+6What the hell are you smoking? In case you haven't noticed, hockey has become the most exciting sport as of late.
- Number17, on 03/16/2009, -0/+5He'll have a lot more than that. He already has 551, and three more years on his contract with NJ. I agree he'll still beat Roy, but by a much wider margin.
- CannedMango, on 03/15/2009, -0/+5I think you're arguing a losing battle here. New Jersey has surrounded Brodeur with a strong Franchise for the better part of 15 years. To say that he's been the only reason the Devils were good is to believe in revisionist history.
- stanggt3, on 03/16/2009, -0/+5Congrats to Marty, I cant wait to be at the game on Tuesday...should be electric
- avirk86, on 03/15/2009, -0/+4I agree will almost everything but your second point, they changed the equipment sizes becuase of guys like Snow, Luango, and Roy
- Wreckage, on 03/15/2009, -2/+6But will he tie Roy's record of getting his butt kicked by 2 different Red Wings Goalies?
- siggyfawn, on 03/16/2009, -0/+3Roy carried many of those teams when he was with the Habs.
The Avalanche never won anything before or after him.
The Devils were one of the top tier franchises for 15 years. They invented the trap. They were one of the best defensive teams for 10ish years.
Both are amazing. I'd still take Roy. - Cannon49, on 03/15/2009, -1/+4Would you like anymore sour grapes?
- TurboTex, on 03/16/2009, -0/+3@Number17: Avirk is referring to 550-600 regular season wins excluding the "pretend" ones from shootouts by the time Marty retires.
- avirk86, on 03/15/2009, -0/+3Don't hold your breath, the only goalie that is more overhyped than Fluery is Price
- Junkyardjim, on 03/15/2009, -1/+4so then we should go back and put astrix's before alot of things for example, the stanley cup was originally a challange cup between leaugues in canada, it is now not up for negotiations its in the NHL and thats that, also, back in the day they played many different versions of the stanley cup finals, such as a best of series, or a most goals series in which the team with the most goals after 3 games or whatever would win. so you comment does have alot of flaws, but i agree more hockey on the FT would be a wesome
oh jesus, btw nice name... - AsSubtleAsABrik, on 03/15/2009, -0/+3I'm planning on being there for when he beats the record on Tuesday. Though it is St. Patrick's Day, so I hope I'll remember it..
- Reveillark, on 03/16/2009, -0/+3Luongo played junior hockey in my town, and his billets lived down the street from me, about 5 minutes away. I would see him playing ball hockey in the driveway every day on my bus ride home.
I'm still pissed at myself for not joining him with my road hockey goalie gear on...how awesome would it be to say you robbed Luongo of a goal! - Jacare, on 03/16/2009, -0/+3interesting little fact. Both Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo are from the same district of Montreal(St. Leonard), they actually grew up about 4 blocks away from each other.
- avirk86, on 03/16/2009, -0/+3swap Lacrosse and Baseball and insert Curling before football (Curling is sooo badass) and I will agree
- Dreeon, on 03/15/2009, -0/+2I've got my ticket for Tuesday as well.

- avirk86, on 03/15/2009, -1/+3Quebec and Finland the goalie capitals of the world
- Junkyardjim, on 03/16/2009, -0/+2and poutine!
- frontaxle, on 03/17/2009, -0/+2CARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
- Boshow, on 03/16/2009, -0/+2I'll see you there
- mapguy, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Broduer holds his record proud as a New Jersey Devil. Digg and share.
http://digg.com/hockey/Brodeur_Becomes_Winningest_ ... - NEWNHLISLAME, on 03/17/2009, -0/+2Digg users are looking like NHL apologists the NEW NHL IS LAME. I was hoping for one person to agree they might want to stop tinkering with the game to get an American audience who doesn't care if its on TV.
The records are tainted they should not include shoot out wins as a win for the goalie.
Just wait fighting will be gone soon and we will be watching euro hockey snore! - NEWNHLISLAME, on 03/17/2009, -0/+2although he might get the record eventually is not the point this type of win tracking makes the old record books useless in comparison to todays NHL
- djordanmiller, on 03/15/2009, -8/+9Roy's still much more of a badass, but good for Marty.
- highevolutionry, on 03/15/2009, -2/+3Marty rules. How many cups has he won? And he's kicking ass after getting hurt for the first time in his career. All with the same team. Devils!
- vegx, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1I don't really have faith. Fleury's good but not great and certainly will never be as good as Brodeur.
But Garon playing today showed that Fleury's no slouch even if he isn't good with his stick and will give up bad rebounds sometimes. - NEWNHLISLAME, on 03/17/2009, -1/+2keep watching the lame product if you don't care about the history of the game. one question do you even play hockey?
- vegx, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1At least there should be no argument regarding the shutout record should Marty get it.
Unless he somehow has 10 double regulation shutout shootout wins. - owyn999, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1After doing some preliminary research and noting that Fleury is still a young goalie he is on pace to be one of the best goalies of all times, in with the likes of Esposito, Roy, and Kolzig. I don't know if I would say at this time that he's going to be The Best Goalie Ever, but I am going to say he will by the end of his career rank with the to 20 goalies of all times. and that is a guarantee
- avirk86, on 03/15/2009, -6/+5What are you talking about? The only reason why Roy had so many wins was because 1) he played on good teams, with many years they were overly stacked (Bourque, Kariya, Selanne, Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Fluery, ect...) what kind of supporting cast did Marty have besides Stevens, Nieds, and Mogilny. 2) The reason Roy was so successful at this position was he was big and used over sized gear. When it comes down to pure skill, there is no competition Brodeur is far and beyond the better of the two. Hell, Roy doesn't even compare to Hasek in his prime.
- vegx, on 03/15/2009, -5/+2Only 447 more wins to go for Fleury. I've got faith.
Congrats to Marty though. It's nice to be able to witness an all time great playing in our time. - NEWNHLISLAME, on 03/15/2009, -11/+8Martin doesn't deserve it really, the wins goaltenders would earn before the lock out were real wins. Some of Marty's wins are shoot out wins which means there should be an asterisks post lock out in the record books. Pretend wins take records from the men who built this game, like the single season wins leader is Bernie Parent, no shoot out wins 47 actual wins in one season!,
BTW more NHL on Digg please this sport needs to be discussed more! I want my old NHL back! - swgc5, on 03/15/2009, -14/+7I'm glad, Roy is a dick.
- PxCxG, on 03/15/2009, -14/+3Compulsory digg for sports on the front page... even if it is hockey.
- inactive, on 03/15/2009, -19/+2Who gives a *****. It's hockey.

What is Digg?
