- veryemergency, on 10/11/2007, -4/+82I never thought the Ducks could win without Emilio Estevez, but I've been proven wrong.
- Kalan, on 10/11/2007, -8/+82Actually there are more canadians in the Ducks Then the Senators..So Technicaly a more Canadian team won!
- TCPPhoto, on 10/11/2007, -10/+61Dugg because Selanne got his first Cup.
- fibreoptix, on 10/11/2007, -10/+51Sad that the cup goes to a city where 1 in 100 people knew that the ducks are in the playoffs.
Anyway I picked the Ducks because my theory still stands, if you have a European Captain you won't win the Stanley Cup. - winmywii, on 10/11/2007, -2/+41The Flying V sealed the deal.
- Lososaurus, on 10/11/2007, -12/+481 in 100? You're being generous when it comes to Ducks 'fans'.
- drimo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+38You're buried. Asshat!
- Armando57, on 10/11/2007, -10/+42Forget about global warming, Hell is about to freeze over. A sports franchise named after a lame Disney movie wins the Stanley Cup

Canadians playing for Ottawa, 13. Canadians playing for Anaheim, 20. - Malovech, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28*Pulls duckyspetrie's shirt over his head and starts wailing on him*
- nutsackninja, on 10/11/2007, -28/+51The cup belongs in CANADA!
its a sad day :( - lostradamus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Sigh..."congrads"??
- Nightfall, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23"Dugg because Selanne got his first Cup."
How about Dugg because everyone on the team except for Scott Neidermeyer got their first cup. Look at the notables like Rob Neidermeyer who got his first cup after 2 trips to the finals, one against his own brother Scott in 2003. This team was composed almost entirely of first timers who have never won the cup before. I am a hockey fan above all else and this was a great series by the Ducks! :) - gregdogum, on 10/11/2007, -7/+25The Senators choked big time. Lost game one and led that game (lost by 1 goal in the 3rd period); lost game 2 by a score of 1-0 (offense failed to show up); dominated for the most part game 3; choked on game 4 big time with Chris Pronger out from suspension (could have tied the series 2-2 at that point); then they got absolutely man handled last night. They put up a decent fight keeping it within range bringing the game to a 1 goal difference twice but to end up screwing themselves over big time by not playing their game. They were rattled and they got what they had coming for them. Ducks didn't necessarily win this series, but the Senators surely lost it for themselves.

>Congrats to the Ducks though, they're the first Pacific Time Zone team to win it.
I heard Bettman say the same thing last night... but it isn't true! Why does everyone forget the Vancouver Millionaires? They won the Stanley Cup in 1915. Heck, the Seattle Metropolitans won it in 1917 (first US team... ever) and the Victoria Cougars won in 1925. Anaheim may be the first west coast team to win the cup in the NHL, but not the first west coast team to win the cup ever. Just a little history...

- bean, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Being a Sens fan I can say how happy I am the Leafs didn't make the playoffs.
- SteelFrog, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17True. I'm in Ottawa and you should have seen the crowds in the street during games. Man, over 10,000 showed up to watch it on Elgin. I work right off the street and there are Sens flags all over the place. I'm really disappointed.
- Rayfound, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16@Dolby
Combining the USA and Canada for both sports, Hockey actually has a larger following/viewership than Basketball... yes a huge percentage of that is in Canada for hockey, but youth Hockey in USA is growing, and that will continue to grow the following of the sport stateside.
I am a Canadian Transplant here in SoCal, but the fans in Anaheim were great y any standards, it was great game to be fortunate enough to go to. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16The Mighty Ducks extensive use of the Flying V, Knuckle Puck, and Triple Deke almost guaranteed a win against the Senators.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12How could it *****, when NBC was showing the Cup Final.
- godzillaWax, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Congrats to Niedermayer on getting the Conn Smythe he should have received four years ago.
- schizogony, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17Mighty Ducks > Anaheim Ducks
- Zimnick, on 10/11/2007, -12/+22I'm glad that he finally won the cup, he definitely deserves it.
And on a different note, I'm not a die hard Senator's fan, but I'd rather they had won it simply because of Pronger being on the Ducks. - cbrunet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11The problem is is that Ottawa DIDN'T play well. They played so good, and were the dominating team so many times during the playoffs. They shut down the Art Ross trophy winner Sid the Kid in the first round. Volch and Phillips barely let the kid breathe. Then, Jersey's stingy defence wasn't a problem either, as the big line (Alfi, Spezza and Heater) ripped it up regardless. Buffallo, the Presidents Trophy winners wern't a problem either, and the boys let them have it. But this series, I dont know what happens. The hockey they were playing reminded me of how they were playing in the first 3 months of the regular season, just atrocious.
The only constant through this whole stupid series was Mike Fisher. No matter how bad we were playing, how down we were, Fisher was there to battle hard. What a guy!
On the plus side, we're not going to be losing a huge amount of people to free agency, and besides for a couple of RFA's, we should have pretty much the same group of guys coming back next season. Us Ottawa fans, always the optimists. - drimo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10So if karma is why Alfredsson lost the cup, then why did dirty Pronger get it instead? Pronger has always been a dirty player and has always taken cheap shots when he isn't winning.
- jvesanto, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15In my opinion, Selänne really did deserve a Stanley Cup ring, and although I've generally been a Sens fan, I think you'll have a hard time finding people who wouldn't bestow him the win.
- keenada, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10"Actually there are more canadians in the Ducks Then the Senators..So Technicaly a more Canadian team won!"
This logic irks me so much. I hear this from Leafs fans constantly.
There are 18 Canadian players on the Ducks and 14 on the Senators. There are more Canadian *players* on Anaheim but:
The Coach, Owner, GM, assistant coaches and all of the support staff in Ottawa are Canadian. They are in a Canadian city with roughly 200,000 Canadian fans. They were Canada's team, and though I'm glad a few Canadians won in Anaheim, the Cup is still in California.
The majority of players in almost every NHL team are Canadian. Every win is "Canadian" in that sense. - hella81, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Still upset the Devils got knocked out, but I wanted at least a former Devil to win the Cup.
Congrats, Scott Niedermayer.
On another note, I love the playoffs, the dedication, playing through injuries, the sportsmanship, everything. It's sad that the game isn't more popular here in America. - svodka, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Agreed with TCPPhoto. Seeing Selanne raise the cup gave me goosebumps.
- PhantomRogue, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13The Ducks won the Series. The Senators choked, yes, But there is a reason they choked so badly. Anaheim outplayed the Senators on EVERY level. Goaltending, Offense, Defense, Coaching, Anaheim put the pedal to the metal and just never stopped. Ottawa imposed their will on the Eastern conference, but couldn't stand up to the West. The Ducks won, and won handily, no need to dilute their Victory because you are a fan of Ottawa.
- gregdogum, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8@PhantomRogue
I agree with you and dont get me wrong, I am in no way shape or form a fan of either team (Big Caps fan here, embarassingly enough), but anyways, the Senators had the skill to win this series but they just didnt show up (Spezza, Healtey, etc). - m3mn0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The knuckle-puck shot FTW
- Rabbethan, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Quack Quack Quack Mr. Duckworth!
- jello, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Emery! Stay in the f'n net! You're the goaltender, duh.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Sorry man - its hard to play well when the team you're playing is made up like the Ducks. Two Olympic gold medal, norris winning, 30+ min a game defencemen in Pronger and Niedermayer, oh yeah and a 'noname' like Beauchemin that can play 30 as well, add in an amazing checking line, three forward lines that can skate, check, score and damn well do everything else then plug up the net with a conn smyth winner, relatively immobile yet very consistent goalie (oh and very smart system-based coaching too). That whole team effort added up to more than the Sens could handle.
Not trying to diminish Ottawa's game but you have to give credit to the Ducks - they've been the real deal ALL season and people should have seen this coming. - geeker819, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Congrats to the Ducks and their fans! I'm a Wings fan, but I hold no sour grapes against them. They have a great team, and will for years to come.
- taintedzodiac, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8How could anyone hope to beat a team with figure skaters and a female goalie?
Bash Brothers FTW! - RAiNsTorm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Well said, as a former goalie I can honestly say that technical goalies are where it's at. Knowing angles, players, being intelligent, and disciplined makes a true goalie... not flopping around and "spectacular" saves. Goddamn Hasek and his ilk who the media just slobber over, please.
Flashy goalies aren't the ones who the players have full confidence in and most of the time the defense has to babysit around the crease to keep out squirting pucks or push them under the goalie while hes on his back or some other "amazing" position. But a solid, technical goalie is a wall and inspires confidence and rarely needs a sitter. I'd rather a puck hit me square in the chest and cover it than hoping some snazzy glove at the last second works... if your in the right place why in the world would you need to snap a glove out 3ft. to the side where the puck is heading? I'll never get it, I guess it is because I'm not just a typical viewer who wants to see the flash.
I'm happy as hell for Teemu and the Ducks, they deserved it. I still wish my Pens had beat Ottawa because they would have been in the finals... still woulda lost but it would have been fun. - wrestlingnrj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I live about 15 min from the Honda Center and unfortunately this is completely true. They did a report on the news one morning last week were the reporter went around asking people on the street who new what "The Ducks" were and not a single person could answer correctly. How disappointing.
- Comanche, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Go ask someone who gives a damn.
- tooker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Hockey doesn't suck. You just don't like it. There's a rabid fan base that will always follow and support the league. That fan base may not be big enough to garner TV ratings, but those of us that admire and appreciate what the players and league have to offer don't really care about f'n TV ratings. There will always be some channel willing to broadcast the games. OLN/Vs. coverage this year was fantastic.
- KiLLB0T, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Buried because the link is to such a lame site, this is much better:
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/ - Hockey37, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I hope this silences all the Giguere haters out there. He won the Conn Smyth when his team lost in 2003. Then people complained about his equipment being too big. Now he wins it with the smaller equipment regulations. It's not his pads that make him great, it's his style and size. Just because he doesn't look flashy stopping the puck, shouldn't take anything away from him and what he has achieved.
Also, probally not alot of non-hockey people know this, but he missed most of the first playoff series this year to be with his son who was born with complications to his eye. - tim04, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9and for a third straight year the Cup goes to a non-hockey city...
- wrestlingnrj, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Dugg for the simple fact that it said that the "Senators played hard". Are you kidding me? They had all ready given up game 5 before it ever started. Yes they started to pick up the pace in game 5, but the simple fact is that the Ducks completely dominated this entire series.
- Valleye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I noticed that too. His beard was huge and almost Santa like!
- deeboe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4BTW - I think J. S. Gigure (Anaheim's goalie) should have won the Conn Smythe.
- szembek, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7So does your mom.
