Alexander Ovechkin returns to Russia to be with Grandfather

tsn.ca — Washington Capitals' star forward Alexander Ovechkin has returned to Russia to be with his ailing grandfather and will miss Tuesday's game against the Nashville Predators. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ovechkin family, but on the ***** side of my opinion, anyone else think this is why he's been so off lately?

I hope everything is doing well with his family. I'm a huge hockey fan and would hope Ovechkin will be able to overcome this and return to his amazing playing ability soon.

Granted, they've played two fewer games than the Wings, but that also explains why they're two points behind (they're also 6-0-1 largely without arguably the best offensive player in the team's history, with Gaborik currently on IR)

    I, for one, sympathize. He's human, like anyone else and he deserves to go home and be with loved ones. It may be a contributing factor to his lower quality of play, who knows. I had an experience like this, when my great grandpa died, my physical activity took a downturn, and I just kind of moped around when I was doing sports.
