- Supernova36, on 01/07/2009, -2/+21That is a horribly written description..
- Snoosy, on 01/07/2009, -4/+23Diving was the only chance the Swedes had against the hockey gods known as Canada.
- Slashered, on 01/07/2009, -9/+25He should start playing football. Yes, soccer, asshats.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+13It's always painful to see diving in hockey, flopping around like a fish. Diving belongs in soccer.
- Coffeedemon, on 01/07/2009, -2/+13He went down like he was shot from the stands. Wonder if his idol growing up was Hasek?
- hanselsohot, on 01/07/2009, -2/+12Dugg for the comment:
Markstrom goes down easier than a high school prom date.
ALTERNATIVELY:
Markstrom goes down easier than an Atlantic City hooker.
OR
Markstrom goes down easier than your mom. - banderwocky, on 01/07/2009, -2/+12Yeah, it was embarrassing. Bit of an ass clown.
- Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -0/+81. k
2. people dugg it. - Snoosy, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8Drinking beer is another of our favourite activities. I like to consider it our 3rd national sport.
- deralte, on 01/07/2009, -1/+8this video should have been 4 seconds instead

You just know that if we took Brodeur back he'd be kicking and screaming - eadnams, on 01/07/2009, -1/+7Wow, there are some *angry* swedes commenting on the youtube videos...
North American hockey players always play a better physical game than Europeans, its just part of the program. The European teams always seem to get knocked around more than they're used to, and take dives and such.
Seriously tho... That was a very physical game on both sides, but Canada, and the US know how to play physically, but within the rules of the game... Sweden seemed to try to be physical, but ended up just being violent... like biting, and putting Canadian players in headlocks, theres an etiquette to hockey fights, and I didn't see that from the Swedes.
I'd be frustrated too if I was getting my ass handed to me, regardless of how hard I was working. - FreddieD, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6Apparently you underestimated the fact that Kazakhstan is a major exporter of potassium, and all other countries have inferior potassium.
- KnifeFed, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6As a Swede, I speak for our entire population when I say: bork bork!
- BoneheadFarker, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5*****. Seriously, it gets cold here in the winter. Gotta do something to stay warm...
- Chirp08, on 01/07/2009, -1/+6It's Canada, what else do you guys have to do other then play hockey? Anything less would be unacceptable.
- Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5http://digg.com/hockey/
Digg is sure that hockey is still a sport - leif777, on 01/07/2009, -0/+5your ignorance is showing
- eadnams, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4You can remove hockey from your feed, its magical! Then others dont have to listen to you complaining, and you dont have to waste your time doing it!
- Seela, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4One word: Embellishment
Translation: If you get hit and fall then take it and don't try to make it look bigger than it is. - thinboyslim, on 01/07/2009, -2/+6How to turn 2 clips into a minute an a half, well done for that.
- btattersall, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4Although I feel that you should find an outlet for your anger, I agree with your base point, which is that violence is crowd pleasing.
I think that both teams on Monday night were doling out their share of aggression. Some of Canada's hits were iffy, and some of Sweden's actions were deplorable (And, in the case of most, unpenalized) Overall Canada outplayed, out muscled, and out worked Sweden, which is why they deserve the win. The TSN commentators went so far as to say the Swedish goalie would need some "extensive work" from his Florida Panthers coaching staff to curb his tendency for diving, and I think comments saying he should play English Football are right on the money.
Lastly, I think that there is a big part in the game for strong stick handling and puck placement. I work in an arena, and see more than my fair share of live hockey games. The hits, fights, and goals are always the excitement. But seeing a forward beat a defender with a fast move, or watching someone score a goal through sheer amazing ability with the puck is something else that is a foundation of the game, and shouldn't be overshadowed by violence. - tehnico, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4Goaltending. He was awesome the whole tournement. But for some reason felt the need to mail in an egg and play whiner this game.
- Shakermaker, on 01/07/2009, -2/+5Markstrom is such a little bitch...
- SneakyNinja, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4What a pansy.
Dugg for the original Mighty Ducks movie. For the record, the sequels sucked. - Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Nah, I'll agree with Puck Daddy and say he should go for Platform Diving.
- KirbyMorph, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3He didn't get 'rammed' in the head by his own player. He got bumped / nudged and then flew back into the net like he was shot. Why did he do it? He was looking down and thought it was a Canadian that bumped him, prompting his little dive.
As for the slew-footing, the Espisito one was a double minor if you ask me - Espisito dragged the leg and should be called for it, but Markstrum did nothing to move out of the way and, again, embellished a rather light hit against him. Have you ever played hockey? Someone drags a leg, you don't go flying like Markstrum did. At best, you stagger for a second in that situation.
And everything you claim doesn't make up for the fact Markstrum skates to his bench during a penalty call on the Canadians and, along the way, decides to jump at one of our players and then flop on the ice as if he was hit.
Anyway you look at it, he was an embarrassment to his team, his country and hockey in general. No one should act the way he did during that game and he deservest eh backlash he gets. - pp7k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Thankfully it's pretty rare. Nobody wants to be on the "diver's list" (yes, there is such a thing, and it's considered a huge embarrassment).
- MakinBacon, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3If you want to go back in time, I can do the same too...
1. Canada has won 7 Olympic Golds in Men's Hockey - Sweden: 2
2. Canada's Women have won 2 golds in three Olympic outings - Sweden: 0
3. Canada has won 24 Golds in Men's International Hockey - Sweden: 8
4. Sweden's biggest defeat ever was against Team Canada 24-0 (Chamonix, France - 1929)
Careful what you pick and choose to highlight... - eadnams, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3well said.
- NEWNHLISLAME, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4Im so glad the Swedes lost. No composure, no true grit. Ill take 25 Canadians anytime on my team and leave the Euros at Home. Why was Detroit vs Pittsburgh one of the most boring finals ever because the supposed best playerson Detroit Datsuk, and, Zetterborg were Swedish and Russian Hossa Slovakian. The grittiest players were the 3rd and 4th line Canadian players. I'm not a Crosby fan either yet maybe he will grow up someday. But the new style of play in International Hockey as well as in the NHL is geared toward non-violence. non violence is boring. there are only a few things people stand for in a hockey game goals!, fights! and Hard Hits! I dont care how the puck goes in the net. If its in its in! Watching ice capades and penalty after penalty just leaves me flipping the Channel. any one care to respond id love to hear it.
- pp7k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Actually, Markstrom is a good goalie and big part of the reason they were in the finals. I just didn't know until this game that he's also a dick.
- CedEx, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Soccer... or maybe... diving.
- beervolcano, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Makes you wonder how the Swedes got as far as they did.
- publishcron, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4They had a much easier path to the final than the Canadians.
- btattersall, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Technically they earned a place in the tournament, and will be cycled out next year for another team. Better to give them a shot and have them lose and gain experience, instead of excluding them in perpetuity
- mudpuddle, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2But within those teams, you usually see a difference between young European players and North American players (and Europeans who have become acclimated to the NHL). The exception being Douglas Murray of the Sharks who enjoys playing as an angry brick wall on skates.
- NEWNHLISLAME, on 01/07/2009, -1/+3actually it was a championship defeat with video embarrassments of Sweden so what was wrong with the title?
- Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2D2 was kinda fun, D3 was the worst movie ever though.
Summary
Charlie: "I went from that ***** kid who scored one goal, to the depth player who sat out for someone who didn't suck to play, to suddenly being a teen superstar. Wat" - pp7k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Well, the word "hockey" should probably be in the title.
- Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -1/+3More like 5 clips that were trimmed down for comedic effect. The actual video that shows them in sequence is longer.
- Snoosy, on 01/07/2009, -1/+3Slovakia kicked some American ass (hilarious, btw). Sweden played Slovakia in the semis. They might as well have been straight in the finals.
- pp7k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Please, be nice. My feelings get hurt when someone questions the relevance of my favourite sport. You have cut me deeply, sir :(
- Jeffler, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Thanks as always but 90% may be a bit steep :P
- dynamojoe, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2well, considering you referred to the Canadians as "our", I'll pencil in a little bias on your side. To rebut some of your points:
I've never been rammed in the head by a defenseman's ass while wearing a goalie mask and looking the other way. I honestly don't know what the reaction should be. Flying backwards doesn't sound unreasonable. Looks funny on the tape, but hardly Lougainis-quality.
As for Markstrom moving out of the way when getting checked- he's not required to. OK, I only watch the NHL and don't know if goalies are required to dodge players in juniors, but they're not required to in the bigs and are considered untouchable except for incidental contact. As much as I wanted to see Patrick Roy get plowed when he used that rule to his advantage (like when protecting an iced puck so his D could touch it), I never got to see his smug mug drilled through the end boards like he deserved.
Hell, if you want "Embarrassment to Hockey", all you have to do is look at Toronto fans and the way they greet players that were traded away, like McCabe last night. And let's face it: this supposedly humorous video was likely assembled by a Canadian... It's not enough for their team to win, some fans must also mock and ridicule the opponents. Sore winners are worse than sore losers. - publishcron, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I disagree.
Round robin is just for seeding. Canada and Sweden ended up with the same placement so it's really not relevant any way.
Canada faced a much tougher opponent to make it to the Gold medal game than the Swedes did. - eadnams, on 01/07/2009, -0/+21 or 2 years in the NHL vs their entire lives previously, whats gonna influence their style more? I'm not saying all of them are like that, but the teams as a whole seem to have a distinct difference in play styles, and particularly the physicality.
- pp7k, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Actually, the Swedes had an excellent team, possibly more skilled than Canada overall. But that's what is exciting about single elimination tournaments.
Could the Slovaks beat the U.S. in a seven game series? Not a chance. But in one game, anything can happen. The Swedes played so-so, while Canada had probably their strongest outing of the tournament after playing so-so against the Russians and digging themselves into a hole early against the U.S. - SneakyNinja, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I know I watched it the other night and nearly gouged out my eyeballs from the horror.
- cksos1, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I thought the flop style of goaltending went out with Mike Palmateer back in the early 80's? I guess the reason it isn't used today is that it lacks an effectiveness in wining hockey games. Back to square one for the Swedish goalie coaches.
