- bs0l, on 04/24/2008, -4/+51Avery is an *****.
- dimmerswitch, on 04/24/2008, -8/+41It's a good career move for him, I hope he makes it permanent. If he sticks around the NHL much longer he's likely to have someone remove his head and place it in his ass. There's a fashion trend for ya!
- Senturion, on 04/24/2008, -2/+18I love this comment from Vogue's PR guy trying to explain what Avery does on the ice.
"He is "what hockey people call an agitator," writes The New Yorker's Nick Paumgarten. "His job, which seems to have no analogue in sports -- or in any line of work, except maybe terrorism -- is to annoy his opponents so intensely that they cannot resist retaliating. He goads foes into losing their focus and, in theory, the game."
Avery = terrorist - br0wnstar, on 04/24/2008, -8/+20hahah, Avery is awesome at what he does. He's gets under everyone's skin and it's hilarious.
- Serume, on 04/24/2008, -1/+12Now most people tend to think that Sean Avery is the meanest player in NHL, but how you conduct yourself on the ice isn't always a perfect guage of character. About seven years back, when he was trying out for the Redwings, i was fortunate enough to see them play in a pre-season scrimmage, as they players were leaving the ice, Sean Avery gave me his stick, and then was kind enough to track me down after the game as he was signing autographs so he could sign the stick for me, and get a few others to sign it as well, even though he may be a tough guy on the ice, he seemed the polar opposite off the ice.
- smacksaw, on 04/24/2008, -4/+14LOL...he's not a thug, he's a pest.
I'm a Devil's fan and even I had to laugh at the ***** he was doing to Brodeur. I love the guy. He amuses me. Lighten up, people. Avery makes the NHL fun. He's a good balance for the "Wayne Gretky effect" of guys being classy all the time.
Man...when the Kings had Ian Laperriere and Avery that was a beauty, eh? - inactive, on 04/24/2008, -5/+14Hockey and Fashion...a match made in heaven? Obviously yes.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/24/2008, -2/+10As a die-hard Rangers fan, I have to give you kudos for this comment. You're the first Devil's fan to be rational about this.
All the people here bashing Avery are either a bunch of nerds who don't know anything about hockey, or are fans who won't admit that they are subconsciously jealous that he's not on their team. How can you NOT like the guy? He gets under the skin of his opponents and gets them to take penalties, and he's pretty damn good on offense. He'll go to war for anyone on his team and will always provide some amazing quotes to the media.
He really is a breath of fresh air for hockey which sadly is a sport falling by the wayside. Anything that will bring attention to the game is a good thing and hockey fans should be glad that this character is bleeding the news of the NHL into the mass media.
Now watch all the nerds and haters digg me down... - talonstriker, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7same could be said of the website that you keep spamming.
- TheR3dMenace, on 04/24/2008, -1/+8I hope Laraque breaks his ***** face
- TheDudeDiggs, on 04/24/2008, -1/+7I see the headlines already. "Vogue fires new male intern and makes new policy about "stick" waving."
- eatkitten, on 04/24/2008, -3/+9Well, maybe he can take a year off from the Rangers and follow up his internship with a stint as a figure skater.
- kl78229, on 04/24/2008, -1/+7Move over Betty, there's a new ugly drama queen in town!
- killbert24, on 04/24/2008, -7/+13I think it's cool. If he wants to work for a fashion magazine, then good for him.
- crowbar77, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Yeah he be a dick, but he still got Elisha Cuthbert.
- xfirei, on 04/24/2008, -2/+7He is not a mean guy. He is smart because he knows if he just went out and played nobody would know his name. He would end up giving in his 12 years a journeyman and leave hockey without anybody noticing. He knew he didn't have the skills to play on the top two lines so he made a name for himself by playing the way he does. I wish every team had a guy like this. And the article is wrong he was never Drafted, so he went from nothing and now look at him one of the 3 most important players on the Rangers.
- Rikushix, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Agreed x (∞ + 1)
Worst part is that there's a few others competing to be the biggest douche in the NHL...Downie, Boulerice...they all want a bit of the action. - winmywii, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5What a bitch.
- redstorm986, on 04/24/2008, -2/+6Do you ever watch sean avery play?
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 04/24/2008, -3/+7It's all about the chicks, and I salute Sean for this!
- krypton24, on 04/24/2008, -1/+5Avery is farrrr from a thug.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/24/2008, -2/+5Avery isn't a thug, he's a pest. It really is a big difference.
- CkMaverick, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4Avery usually backs away from fights, his job is to annoy and pester other players into taking penalties. He is also a bit of an ass and will talk ***** to the media even against his organization and is usually found over-dramatizing everything.
- UltraDavid, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4Hmmm. Yep, he's a pro... right, so he does in fact play hockey... aaaand he's by all accounts one of the douchiest players to come along in quite a while. He's more of a "pest" and less of "thug" I suppose, but whatever, that's not too important.
So, yeah. In answer to your question, a lot more inaccurate. - junkwheel, on 04/24/2008, -4/+7***** ABC NEWS.
- jmask5, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Avery is not a thug he is a pest, an aggitator. A thug is someone like Bertuzzi or Boogard.
- brandonelliott, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3hes just one of those guys everyone loves to hate and he loves to be hated
- supermanred, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3"That's why the NHL can't be taken seriously by people other than Canadians."
Your Canadian citizenship is revoked. Please return your passport to your closest police station within 24 hours.
You don't have to go to the US, but you can't stay here. - supermanred, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- rohcky, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2This might help people who don't know Avery well.
Avery : Rangers :: Tucker : Leafs - ScreamOn, on 04/24/2008, -7/+9"pro hockey thug" how much more inaccurate can you get
- 808kick, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3Avery rocks, Rangers rock period
- kernel16, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3I was more interested with the Outsourcing? U.S. Cheerleaders to India article.
- smacksaw, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Well, I gotta know my place...it was a hell of a series. Strange we those two teams keep meeting. Every game was so close, but IMO it was Avery who put them over the edge. Hockey is so much chemistry, and he's the catalyst to make a team a winner. And the Devils were fading towards the end of the year. Who would want any part of someone like Avery when you're questioning yourself and your teammates like you know the Devils were.
Anywho, you're right. Since the rule changes, a lot of the more interesting characters in hockey really don't have a job, and there's not a lot of Lappys and Averys out there who have skill, toughness and can make things happen. - TimmyGUNZ, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2See guys, this is proof right here that girls DO use Digg.
- jj9000, on 04/24/2008, -5/+7A sample of Avery's "work". He's a disgrace to the NHL:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ec_2oKWe2Gw - vancanucksfan, on 04/24/2008, -2/+4Avery's job is just that, being a pest and getting the other team off its game. It obviously worked. Avery is a very smart hockey player. Whoever hates him needs to lighten up. Every player must do what they can to win. This is a player that actually cares about winning even if it means pushing the rules to the very extreme. I enjoy watching these hockey pests play, like avery, alex burrows, ryan kesler. It's so funny watching the top guys on the other teams get penalties and get thrown in the penalty box for 5 minutes while the other team puts their elite guys on the ice to score.
- KennMac, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Brodeur is far from innocent in the dual with Avery. Brodeur, commonly playing outside the crease lines himself up to collide with Avery, attempting to draw goaltender interference calls. Sometimes he's successful. Avery performs the same shady antics right back, but because Brodeur is a seasoned verteran, Avery takes the verbal abuse.
- xfirei, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3I'm a devils fan and i knew the second that i heard Avery signed with he rangers they where gonna be a different team. Its to bad that he cant come to the devils once his contract is up. I doubt there is a single team in the NHL who wouldn't want him now.
- sinurgy, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2I'm actually surprised he plays on the same team as Jagr considering Jagr once nearly ended his life!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B53W-7tk4Uw - foofightrs777, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3Thugs are tough players w/o skill. (aka: Goon)
Avery is a tough and annoying player WITH skill. Therefore, thug does not apply here. - rpapi100, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3I disagree with you but dugg you up because you defended your position (on Hockey no less!) rationally.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2No.
- supermanred, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3No one cares about this ↑↑↑↑↑↑ fag.
- justinx0r, on 04/24/2008, -4/+6I'll be rooting for the Rangers since the Caps are out of it ;_;
- jololli, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Is that profit bit true? Source?
- KennMac, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3It worked. He scored 35 seconds later.
- t3hg00se, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2The fact that everyone responds so angrily pleases the Avery.
He thanks you. - zedman88, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2I'd rather have 10 Averys for every Ruutu/Tootoo/Cooke
He may be a clown but you don't have to worry about him ending someone's career. - supermanred, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2I hope the next time he pulls ***** like that the goalie whacks him one in the knees.
