- twigzz, on 01/21/2009, -2/+24GO CANADA GO! We are bringing home the gold. I am planning on buying a jersey.
- Linguo, on 01/21/2009, -0/+20I have such a hockey boner right now.
- AmazingSteve, on 01/22/2009, -0/+15SPOILER ALERT - Canada Wins.
- kgalbraith, on 01/22/2009, -1/+10Canada will win!
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/22/2009, -0/+8CANADA!!!
- sgerwel1985, on 01/22/2009, -0/+7God i love hockey. I played it for close to 12 years of my life and i must say, by far one of the best team sports out there. With that said, i hope that this really picks up in the mainstream US sports market. Way more entertaining than football, basketball, and boreball... i mean baseball.
As for the olympics, Russia could possibly just walk right through everyone this time. If you look at all the young talent in the NHL and KHL that could possibly make the team. I mean just think, Malkin, Ovie, Ilia, Backstrom, Datsyuk, Semin, kovi... heck the point is they are absolutely stacked.
Ideal final for me would be Russia vs Canada! - MrZop, on 01/22/2009, -0/+7Home ice advantage is a big factor for Canadian hockey players. being that it will be in Vancouver, it should be an amazing event. I bet Canada will win, obviously there is some amazing competition, but in the end, Canadian hockey players have been waiting for this chance, and will not take it lightly.
Go Canada!
I can't wait to welcome the world to my beautiful city. - Forgorin, on 01/22/2009, -1/+8Hey, if they don't win, and since the game will be in Vancouver, I bet they will riot again just like the canuks did when they lost the stannly cup.
- edyang, on 01/22/2009, -1/+7Oh please. I've lived in Vancouver for 20 years. Natives are treated with a ton of respect and given a lot of benefits. At some point, it's time to move on. Chinese were mistreated as slaves for building railroads but you don't see us bitching and whining about it 100 years later. Open a dry cleaner and move on!
- almj, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6I don't think it's possible for us to win, but there's always hope. Sweden, Russia, or Canada would be the best bets.
- lololol1, on 01/22/2009, -1/+7a billion internets says canada will win gold in womans hockey.
100 internets for mens. - TheMikey, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6Yeah. Just like Salt Lake City in 2002 when the Americans, during the Women's Gold Medal Game, hired an American referee who called the most ***** penalties ever witnessed in a sporting event.
Canada won 3-2, of course, but that's because we're covered with ice 7+ months of the year anyway.
Good logic though. - TConundrum, on 01/22/2009, -1/+7Canada FTW
- AmazingSteve, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5I think the Russian strippers AFTER the game will be the ones spanking them.
- brianbb98, on 01/22/2009, -1/+6eh
eh! - SolituSneiku, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4What about Khazakstan? I heard they were good
- edyang, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Go Canada!!!!
- TheMikey, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Wayne Gretzky is an exceptional player and a mediocre coach. He was also a terrible GM and his choices for the Men's Team in Torino proved it. With Yzerman in charge, I think things will be different, but it would be an atrocity if #99 was behind the bench as the head coach.
- dokaebi, on 01/22/2009, -1/+4Because there's field hockey.
- loconet, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Here is the mirror:
Canada > * - starkraving, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Luongo is no longer injured, he played yesterday for us, and was 40 seconds away from a shut-out. When he's in the zone he's unbeatable.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3What? Spain didn't make it? *gasp*
- joncannon, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Yeah, because it must be really wrong for me to root for Patrick Kane, Jason Pominville, Peter Mueller, Tim Thomas and the rest of Team USA. You know, because I'm from the U.S. and a member of USA Hockey.
- djodorg, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3very
- stuffradio, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3That was a sad year... lol
- Andrewticus, on 01/22/2009, -1/+4As another member of USA Hockey, and a natural citizen, I still find it unsavory to do the "U.S.A. U.S.A." chant.
Short, repetitive chants reek of brainwashing. The "U.S.A." chant has always reminded me of Nazi Germany's "Sieg Heil" chant. Watch any Republican assembly and you'll see what I mean. - sunnytar, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Considering the way Russia played in the World Championship '08, I say they have a pretty good chance for gold in Vancouver. And I'm not talking just about those two Kovalchuk's goals in the final, I'm talking about coaching and change of the players' attitude. Oh, and they also have Nabokov!
- mrseptic, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3FTA: "In 2002, Canada nipped the United States."
Canada beat the US 5-2. That's not nipped. That's an ass-kicking. - stuffradio, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Same, eh!
- renegade1029, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Man I wonder what the Kostitsyn brothers playing in the same team as Grabovski will look like, after the last MTL-TOR game...
- GNARKILLKILL, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2really well written article! canada should take this easily if they can find team chemistry...
id love to see japan make this tournament! - Aixxt, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Go Finland !!!
- pagit, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3canada will get the gold - the secret is in the ice
is the Great One coaching Canada?
it will be hockeygasim night in canada for sure eh - matthewkg, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2No Marc Savard on team Canada? *****.
- djodorg, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3As a Vancouverite, yes, we will own every other country in hockey. With great hockey minds like Wayne Gretzky, Steve Yzerman behind the team and with players such as Loungo, Rick Nash, Sidney Crosby, Joe Sakic, Martin Brodeur, and all these great upcoming players, Canada will be unbeatable. I think our biggest concern would be either Russia or Sweden. Russia has some talented youth and a very fast skating team.
- djodorg, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Last game was brutal. Canucks worked so hard. They deserved that game. The ref really made an awful penalty call in the overtime which should have never occured in the first place. San Jose got lucky, but there's no doubt, they are a strong team. Judging from that game thou, Canucks have the stamina and goaltending to compete with them. Bad reffing caused Canucks that game no doubt.
- 3BePb, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Russia vs Canada in a final for sure!
Russia is hungry for olympic gold more than anyone. Canada is looking forward to revenge the last world cup. The thread implies that Canada is a most talanted team in upcoming championship, but Russia, Goddamn, is the best team since SU times, and maybe better.
My prediction is that Russia team takes two olympic golds in a row, Vancouver + Sochi.
P.S. Hope that the argument between Ovechkin and Malkin, which arose lately, wont spoil Russia's level. - Jeffler, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2"And theres a fight between 3 players...a third man in suspension co-wait, they're all from Belarus!"
- stuffradio, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Lungo has sucked the past few games, mind you he was out for a couple months with a groin injury =}
- djodorg, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Have you guys seen this video before? http://digg.com/hockey/13_year_old_kid_pulling_out ... Digg it if you like.
- imprezaru, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1since when did Backstrom become russian?
- troyguy2, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I've been pushing that issue my whole life.
- pkjohnson17, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I'm thinking sweden canada and russia grab the medals this in '10 but i think the US is only gonna get better with the crop of players coming up right now
Mueller, kane, O'sullivan, Erik Johnson, Jack Johnson, parise, kessel, JVR, schroeder,..... - oda1, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2Why call it 'ice hockey'? you don't see anyone saying 'court basketball' ... I don't think there's any other sport in the olympics with 'hockey' in it's title, therefore it's very clear that it's ice hockey.
- mdizz21, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1If he continues to perform at such a high level I really think team Canada should consider Milan Lucic. This guy can hit. If you throw him on a line with Iginlia and Nash Canada would have an explosive power line.
- joncannon, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Never forget the Miracle on Ice during the 1980 Winter Olympic games.
- coreydoucorey, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Quite doubtful. How the hell did this get such many diggs? http://manxl.org
- PKO17, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Not to mention Paul Stastny; I didn't know he was American. He, Kane, and Gomez up the center really make Team USA. And Drury will be the leader and clutch guy, as always.
- PKO17, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1And no Sykora on the Czech team? Well, this is just a prediction afterall.
