- awesomeface, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26How the f is this groundbreaking? Hello peer pressure, how are you?
- PresidentSoup, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Yes you can! *digg down*
- plizard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11yay and you can make better myspace emo photos
- drimsun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Who'd want to be skinny? Maybe you meant lean or athletic?
- fyrehart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe it's all the exercise that results from seeing pictures of the scantily-clad skinny girls in the social network.
- jeffeb3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Social Network != myspace. Are we clear? People have been having social networks long before the internet.
- N10E, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This doesn't work, My social network is filled with skinny people and it only makes me larger by comparison.
- hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yeah, I was about to say... Groundbreaking? Uh, no. Common sense, yup.
- AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well, if the other study is true, then being fat can be contagious, so why not getting skinny? It's all about conformist behavior, isn't it? Even subconsciously, you'll adopt similar behavior to those you admire and look up to—so in this case, your friends are losing weight and you'll (possibly subconsciously) start to act in a manner consistent with that.
- jason469, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Your Social Network Can Make You Skinny!"
Well no *****! when people around you care about their health, image, or ______(insert something here) you tend to A. Start getting interested in that subject or B. Not care and usually won't be around them when they are doing whatever it is that they like, but you don't. - BionicSeraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've found this is true. I lost 50 pounds after a friend of mine started losing weight (he lost over 60). My dad started working out and he has lost almost 100 pounds. People at work are starting to go to the gym with us too.
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No *****. It's called a "support group." I'm sure you've heard of it.
Thank God Harvard costs so much to go to. I wonder when we can expect the reinvented wheel? - hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2More people die as a result of side affects from obesity than from cancer, I think. Or they're both pretty important, anyway.
- KineticShampoo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4"A groundbreaking study released by the New England Journal of Medicine"
These ***** are studying how you can lose weight, instead of curing AIDS or cancer. This is just like that movie Idiocracy. - Digg360, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is a HARVARD study???
- HairyFotr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2People like you hyperventilate when they talk about world problems and use a lot of energy and air, thus contribute to global warming. Please stop.
- HairyFotr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*applys black eyeliner, and makes a blank stare towards the camera, which happens to be under a very strange angle, and flash is set to maximum*
- samadam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Do you use the second person to make your ideas sound more important? I have no problem exercising when alone, for instance.

http://www.mustweightloss.com/tag/fat-loss/ - BionicSeraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you belong to a homosexual group, westboro church members will show up and your social events.
- vornan19, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am not very social at all but I weigh 20lbs less than when I graduated HS, 22 years ago.
So, meh. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1note: does not apply to myspace
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Skinny people aren't friends with Fatties.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well if all your friends on the social network are fat you'll become fat too.
Of course, none of this is a secret. And there's more fat people than skinny people, so it's less likely you're going to lose weight... on.. the internet. - fhernand, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's a DISEASEE!
- vulapine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1People who work out together tend to all lose weight?
*gasp* - zombiedepot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You forgot the part about the bathroom mirror.
- skyscape, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There are the most lame researches I've heard. If that is what they do at Harvard, I wonder how low they hit. I knew that 10 years ago. This is all self explanatory stuff. If belong to a homosexual group you will become a homosexual, If you belong in a hackers club, you will become a hacker.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's not as simple as peer pressure, but i agree it's not really groundbreaking or unexpected. our social circle--friends, family members, spouses--make up our primary support system. our social group and the associated culture also plays a major role in constructing our perceived or experienced reality. this applies to all kinds of positive and negative lifestyle changes.
- whisperedlie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"... weight loss can spread from person to person through social networks..." wait, i don't get it... do you mean via diseases resulting from internet hookups?
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Innacurate, I sit at Digg all day and I only gained weight and poor grammar.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nonsense. As Terr01 can tell you, it is speaking in the third person which would cause him to really worry.
- flaterates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Old story.
- hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, they mean actual people, people.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"If belong to a homosexual group you will become a homosexual"
Haha :-D - ABadInAlbany, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's not really about conformist behavior. It's about the communication of effective techniques for exercise and nutrition. It's about seeing these things work for people around you, and knowing that they could work for you too -- without surgeries or steroids.
- Grok22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DUH!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1guess traineo will be getting more signups, either that or they paid for this article to published on that blog
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's not really conformist behavior. we're social animals, so our behavior, our lifestyle, etc, are largely dependent on our social network and the culture we live in. just as addicts often need to change their social circles to develop a support system to achieve positive changes in their life, our social network can be an important support system for effecting many other kinds of positive changes in ourselves.
our lifestyle is directly related to our social circle and social interactions, so this is really unsurprising. it's just a synergistic effect that we have on each other. just as when everyone in a group sets off to quit smoking, you'll be much more successful than if you tried to quit by yourself. our friends and social circle are a very important support system in our lives, which is why support groups like AA, NA, etc. are important for individuals who come from ***** up backgrounds and lack a positive support system. - dizzley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have around 80 pounds to shift. Does anybody want it?
- AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1But from a sociological standpoint, the effectiveness of the technique doesn't matter. The implication is more in the subconscious desire to be more like those of us around us—or, perhaps, the desire to improve those of us around us who are not as "well off" as we are.
- yellow7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Good post!
- sikanrong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0holy crap this is so true..
- Happiny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0How about speaking in the 4th person...
- SamanthaPickles, on 12/10/2008, -0/+0I can believe this. I know that when me and 4 of my other girlfriends started to force each other to get to the gym we all had each other to lean on and encourage. We usually all go out to lunch together since we work in fairly close places but just having them there for encouragement helps a lot. We all take Green Tea Extract to help us stay in prime condition. Since we started this regiment 3 months ago as a group we have lost 42 lbs the last time we figured the number. This is the website to the Green Tea Product http://greenteaevolution.com We use a work out my friend Karyn's brother made for us but mostly its just high intensity weight lifting (high reps and low rest) and follow that up with a medicine ball core work out and fifteen minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine. Work out with your friends it works!
- EmmaGiraldi, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0I am going to join 5 social networks to lose fat 5 times faster.
Seriously though If you don't rush it, its easy to lose belly fat http://www.2losebellyfat.com/ -
