- jollyholly, on 11/12/2007, -0/+24Paula Radcliffe is no ordinary woman. She is a professional runner who ran for Britain in the last Olympics (though she had some major heat stress issues preventing her from finishing both the marathon and the 10k in Athens).
- Hetman, on 11/10/2007, -10/+33So what I played halo 9 minutes after wacking off. And no one wrote an article about me. This is lame.
- wmarkusen, on 11/10/2007, -0/+19This is a stupid comment. She is a professional marathon runner. It is her JOB. Would you tell anyone else, not to go to work because they should be bonding with their child?
- repmekevets, on 11/11/2007, -0/+19it would have been more impressive if she won the marathon 9 months into her pregnancy.
- Rahodeb, on 11/11/2007, -5/+17God my wife is lazy
- numberneal, on 11/09/2007, -0/+10that's an average 5:30 minute mile pace; that's my best time for racing 1 milers, and i'm wheezing like a woman in labor after that.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+9That kid just flipped me off!
- BarbaraKolbe, on 11/09/2007, -0/+8Great picture of her with daughter here: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/11/04/nyregi ...
- einstevo, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5are you retarded? you can not be bulimic and run a marathon. she's skinny because her musculature is mostly slow twitch and her daily caloric expenditure is through the roof.
- FeebleGenius, on 11/10/2007, -0/+5The women who "are still carrying baby weight" when their youngest child is 5 need to read this.
- TrickiWoo, on 11/11/2007, -1/+5Have you won any marathons lately?
- wmarkusen, on 11/09/2007, -1/+5Talk about DIGG lag. I first got this story on Sunday on CNN. That's nearly a week ago..! Old news...
- footodors, on 11/10/2007, -1/+4She's awesome and her daughter looks pretty healthy to me!
- scoresman, on 11/10/2007, -1/+4She pooped her pants once while in a race. Tru story
- weeeezzll, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3All Halo players do that...big deal!
(Diggers too) - bethlagarrison, on 11/09/2007, -2/+5I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you've never run a marathon.
- footodors, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3She kicks butt. to the naysayers; would you rather have a fat, lazy woman laying around, choking down twinkies as your mom (....but she stays at home, which is good right?), or a motivated winner like Paula?
I'll take paula - ipaiba, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3What an amazing athlete. Paula Radcliffe has been an astounding runner for a long time.
- hollismb, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2You might want to re-read the article. Or read it at all. Because this was AFTER having the baby. Nine months, in fact.
- diggitydank, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2Never trained for a marathon, have you?
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2That's not your decision. She knows what she wants/needs better than you do.
- jnadke, on 11/11/2007, -1/+2Referencing this link: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/11/04/nyregi ...
- weeeezzll, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I have to agree. She is a not JUST a professional runner, she is the BEST woman distance runner in the world. I would be amazed if she had done it 3 or 4 months after birth, but 9 months of training is more than enough to get back in to your pre pregnancy shape.
- ch1ckster, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1I used a preggo parking space! Only on the days where my pelvis was separating from itself (right at the pubic bone) when baby was very low in my pelvis and pretty much engaged. I could barely walk at that point, but it was only like a week, really. Never judge the women that use those spaces, because you never know what kind of medical condition that they have. Just like seeing a handicap stall being used by someone that seems to be walking perfectly fine -- you can never judge a book by its cover.
They should stress that exercise should be put on hold for at least 2-3 weeks post partum... And that's being very generous. In the olden days, it was 6 weeks so that your risk of hemorrhaging is fully gone... And all stitches are removed ;) - ch1ckster, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1Adding onto that... Never been pregnant or given birth, have you? lol
I was very much in shape during and after my pregnancy, but I still had issues left over from child birth at 9 months... Ever have stitches in your crotch? :D - Kelmon, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1"Woman"? Come on, Paula Radcliffe's famous enough in athletics now to get her name in the title of the article. What's next, Asafa Powell articles with titles like "Man runs quite fast for 100m"?
- diggitydank, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1It may have changed, but a couple years ago, she was the fastest British marathoner, period. Male or female. Some would say that is not saying much, since the UK men suck, but she would very well hold her own in any men's race.
Unfortunate for her, her victory has been overshadowed (rightfully) by Ryan Shay's death on Saturday in the Olympic Trials.
RIP Ryan Shay. - spudnic, on 11/11/2007, -0/+1I'm not trying to take it for her... nor am I saying she should be made to.
- marathonguy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1A REAL job? You don't have a clue to what you are talking about.
- marathonguy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1You don't comprehend the amount of training it takes to run a marathon at that level. She hasn't been lounging around since the baby was born. Before the first birthday, a woman would be considered 'a woman who gave birth'.
- hollycrapacholy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1for how long, this is 9 months later, who the hell can take a year off.
- Pake, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1"But it also highlights a medical debate about just how gung-ho women should be about exercise during pregnancy and afterward." Nothing pisses me off more than seeing pregnant women who refuse to exercise and all these damn "Pregnant Women Only" parking spaces. I commend this lady for showing people how it should be done.
- web2pointYo, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1I wonder if this will make AriaStar want to move to Canada.
- Icetype, on 11/09/2007, -0/+0Now if she won 9 months after conception, that'd be news worthy.
- footodors, on 11/11/2007, -1/+1hell,I'm lazy too. that woman kicks butt
- rebotfc, on 11/11/2007, -1/+1Number 1 not Number 2
- wolvyne, on 11/11/2007, -4/+4What was she doing out of the kitchen?
/sarcasm - philba, on 11/09/2007, -0/+0feh. think about it. most women are a mess even years after having a baby. The fact that she kicked every other woman's ass, including many at the top of their form, is totally amazing. She defines "world class".
However, why this is digg worthy 5 days later is a more interesting question. - DarkPrince11, on 11/11/2007, -1/+1How do you run a marathon and be anorexic at the same time?
- John1q, on 02/10/2009, -0/+0thats amazing, great inspiration to me this is. I got my 5 mile charity race in april comming up, my first race event in years!
http://runningfitness.blogspot.com/ - boner79, on 11/10/2007, -0/+0I thought all Halo players play WHILE whacking off. HEYOHHHHH!!!!
- RobotBuddha, on 11/10/2007, -1/+1As much as I commend her for doing well, is this really all that impressive? She basically had almost a year, during which she could train for as long as she wanted. Say years and years of training before the pregnancy became pronounced enough to impact her routine, about 16 weeks where she couldn't train much, or at all. Followed by nine moths back to her normal training.
- TheCricket, on 11/09/2007, -0/+0Yeah. Winning the NYC Marathon is pretty darn impressive.
- spudnic, on 11/09/2007, -3/+2Yes. It's unrealistic, but if you can afford to take the time off, then in my opinion you should.
- humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -2/+1stretch marks
- Korbels, on 11/11/2007, -6/+4Who else read this 'Woman gives birth after winning NYC marathon?"
- SSCrow, on 11/09/2007, -3/+1I see what you did Thar.
- alexiadaisical, on 11/11/2007, -2/+0small weiner
- xero69, on 11/09/2007, -5/+3She thought she was running AWAY from her (screaming, crying, pooping) newborn, hence the record time ;-)
