- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+20Jeez who knew stressful and unhappy lives could lead to health problems?!
seriously...who is funding those researchs? because give me 100 grands and me too i can be a lead expert on obvious things. - Willravel, on 03/06/2009, -0/+11Wait, so conflict, hostility and disagreement can don't cause stress in men? Kinda sounds like *****.
- thetanman, on 03/06/2009, -1/+9I got as healthy as I've ever been when my marriage went to *****. Got down to a six minute mile, changed the way my body looked, and I only eat healthy now. Still can't outrun how much I miss her, though. :( "and those burdens are delightful"
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -2/+9I dont know why girls dump guys for being too nice and then run after some loser guy that has no job and beats hear and cheats on her
- elliotys, on 03/06/2009, -3/+9Treat your ladies right fella's.
- robohoe, on 03/06/2009, -3/+8Wish they'd treat us right
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+4They aren't implying that. They are taking note on the difference in how women and men are affected by a very similar experience. They say men also go through the same stress, but that the increased chance of heart disease only affects the women, which is kind of interesting.

- bunji, on 03/06/2009, -0/+3Because those figures are a myth?
http://scienceblogs.com/cortex/2007/10/the_divorce ... - partrow, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2I see, and the husband's health does not suffer?
Only the poor wife's health suffers? - inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2My last name is Frank. And for the pun.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -2/+4The worse the marriage is the higher the chance the wife will die, but not the husband. The husband gets to live and remarry someone younger... between this and the equal wages article, I'm getting pissed off at my two stupid X's.
- kismetropolis, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2If you could quantify those numbers, that would be helpful.
- ConfirmedCynic, on 03/06/2009, -4/+6If this is true these days, then why do 50% of marriages end in divorce, with 70% of divorces initiated by the woman?
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -1/+3Don't forget the callouses on the palms and higher risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.
- camaroz06, on 03/06/2009, -3/+5Of course wifes' health suffers they usually are the ones the cause all the *****
- GetItBuilt, on 03/06/2009, -1/+3As a loving husband, I can say this is a two way street. If there is a strain in any marriage, I totally agree that it will affect everyone's health, even children.
- DesignSprout, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Scary but good to know.
- williepepper, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Hey ya all gotta die sooner or later.
- killdashnine, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Next people will be complaining that because of the recession they can't afford to get a divorce. Oh wait ...

- soniapaul, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1I always thought so too, never thought anybody would write about it!
- pingudownunder, on 03/06/2009, -3/+3Buried for the implict suggestion that Depression doesn't affect health and isn't an illness.
- onestrawplz, on 03/06/2009, -3/+3The fact that you can't get a girlfriend is no one's fault but your own.
- carolyncmartin, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0After 20+ years as a psychotherapist, I know this research to be valid. Looking at the comments here there are some misunderstandings about it and the difference between men and women. 1. Because the structure of men & women's brains are different, men have a higher capacity to compartmentalize. When things are going badly in the marriage, he has the ability to ignore it and not let it constantly pray on his mind which lowers his stress level. Women not being as good at compartmentalizing, spend more time brooding about how bad the marriage is. She goes into the stress response and produces more cortisol. The cortisol, being like battery acid, floods her body, breaks down her cells and makes it more difficult to fight off illnesses. 2. If she tries to engage her husband in trying to fix the marriage, and he continues to compartmentalize and is unresponsive, her stress level spikes. She begins to recognize that the marriage is never going to get better and makes the decision to divorce. At this point her stress begins decreasing. 3. When she tells him she is divorcing him, his stess level spikes, his ability to compartmentalize decreases, he's flooded by cortisol, his health declines, he becomes
depressed, and if the depression isn't addressed through therapy and/or medication, he is at risk for suicide.
www.mariposapsychotherapy.com/marriageCounseling.html - Barackalypse, on 03/06/2009, -4/+4Yeah, and men are 4 times as likely to commit suicide after a divorce, so I'd say things even out:
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/03/15/divorce. ... - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+0I think men will suffer just as much. Men also face the problem of hiding their feelings and suffer depression as a result.
http://www.my-acai-burn-story.com/ - ZackAttack007, on 03/06/2009, -1/+1Because they get half your money?
- doctressjulia, on 03/07/2009, -1/+1***** off.
- doctressjulia, on 03/07/2009, -1/+1Oh, boo ***** hoo. Whiners.
- Dan6963, on 03/06/2009, -4/+3Thats cuz the men just turn to porno and stay calm :)
- doctressjulia, on 03/07/2009, -2/+1You sound like a juvenile *****. ***** off.
- murrdpirate, on 03/06/2009, -6/+5This is such *****. ALL marriages result in both spouses getting depressed.
- Logrusmage, on 03/06/2009, -2/+1Clarification:
XX = Female
XY = Male
XXY = Supermodel that used to have a penis. - murrdpirate, on 03/06/2009, -1/+0who?
- agentsrecord, on 03/05/2009, -9/+8Hey, this is sexist. Men also face health problems in a strained marriage. Think about all the beer he has to consume to put up with his wife so he can go to work the next day!
- NinjaDaZz, on 03/05/2009, -4/+2I would argue he has a point. If a stressful marriage leads to excessive beer drinking then the husband is also going to end up with an increased chance of heart disease. Not to mention obesity, liver disease, mental deterioration and impotence…
Which would all just be adding to the stress of an already stressful relationship. I know the article isn’t about husbands. But men read digg too.
:P - inactive, on 03/06/2009, -4/+2Clearly more sexist evidence that men are responsible for all the world evils.. you dropped your ice cream on the floor.. men's fault.. getting sick because your female and a total stress ball who can't control your body enough to relax, hence getting heart disease.. men's fault.. is there anything they can't blame men for?
- Logrusmage, on 03/06/2009, -3/+1Why are you named Frank if you're a chick?
